The main eligibility condition in CSL CKSRU Assistant Engineer Recruitment 2026 is seven years of experience after a civil or mechanical diploma (for Civil, in a supervisory role or above). It covers two supervisory posts at Cochin Shipyard’s Kolkata Ship Repair Unit (CKSRU): one Assistant Engineer (Civil) and one Assistant Engineer (Mechanical). Both are unreserved. The online form and fee run from 5 November to 27 November 2026. The age limit is 45 on 27 November 2026, which the notice puts as born on or after 28 November 1981; ex-servicemen get relaxation up to 50. Selection is by a written test in West Bengal and a short PowerPoint presentation in Kolkata.

Shipyard documents checked for this page: the 13-page Vacancy Notification CSL/NEWPROJ/GEN/PROP&APPR/HR/CKSRU/680/2026/71 (PDF), dated 05.11.2026 and issued by CSL’s Manager (HR & IR), and its three-page syllabus, Annexure I. Page numbers in brackets refer to the notification. Both sit on Cochin Shipyard’s CKSRU careers page, with the registration and apply links. On 7 November 2026 the Cochin Shipyard website showed no corrigendum or date extension for CSL/NEWPROJ/GEN/PROP&APPR/HR/CKSRU/680/2026/71, and the CKSRU careers page still gave 27-11-2026 as the last date.

CSL CKSRU Assistant Engineer Recruitment 2026 at the Kolkata ship repair yard

Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) calls itself a listed Miniratna Schedule ‘A’ company of the Government of India (page 1). Its Kolkata Ship Repair Unit needs these two supervisors in grade PS1, the pay grade the notice gives these posts (page 3).

Post Grade Posts (UR) Diploma Experience after the diploma
Assistant Engineer (Civil) PS1 1 3-year Civil Engineering diploma from an institute approved by the West Bengal State Council of Technical & Vocational Education and Skill Development, or by AICTE 7 years in a supervisory role or above in civil, construction and infrastructure maintenance work, including housekeeping
Assistant Engineer (Mechanical) PS1 1 3-year Mechanical Engineering diploma from a State Board of Technical Education 7 years in mechanical works, of which 2 years supervising mechanical works and workmen

Civil experience counts if it was in a shipyard, an engineering company, a large civil construction company, or a government or semi-government company or establishment. Mechanical experience counts in a shipyard, dockyard, engineering company or government establishment (pages 1 to 3). Speaking Hindi, Bengali or English is listed as desirable for both posts. For the Mechanical post, work in an ERP, SAP or computerised setting is also desirable.

The two posts may change in number, or not be filled at all, at CSL’s choice (page 3). The notice says the posts have not been identified as suitable for persons with disabilities (PwBD). It says the work involves ladders, manholes, confined spaces and heights (page 3).

Pre-diploma years, apprenticeship and contractor letters at CKSRU

The experience rules on pages 6 to 8 are the detailed part of this notice:

  • Only after the diploma. Work done before you passed the diploma does not count. Experience is counted up to 27 November 2026.
  • Apprenticeship counts, with a limit. A completed apprenticeship under the Apprentices Act 1961 in the relevant discipline, or any paid training, counts as experience. It does not count towards the two years of supervising work that the Mechanical post needs.
  • Which certificates are accepted. CSL considers only experience certificates from companies registered under the Companies Act 1956, or foreign companies of equal status.
  • Contractor work. Experience with a proprietary or partnership contractor may be considered only if the principal employer (the company that hired the contractor) endorses the certificate. You also need proof such as Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) or Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) statements.
  • Current job. If you have no experience certificate from your present employer, upload the appointment or offer letter and the latest pay slip. For past jobs, the certificate must show joining and relieving dates.
  • What you did. State the nature of work, duties and responsibilities in each job, and upload proof (page 8).

One more rule is easy to miss. If you lack the prescribed diploma, a higher degree such as a B.Tech or M.Sc does not make you eligible (page 6). Equivalent qualifications need an equivalency certificate from the competent authority.

Born on or after 28 November 1981: the CKSRU age rule

Page 4 caps the age at 45 years on 27 November 2026. Put as a birth date, you must be born on or after 28 November 1981. Ex-servicemen get relaxation as per Government of India rules, up to 50 years. The notice prints no other age relaxation. It also gives no minimum age.

Rs 28,000 basic and Rs 62,748 a month in CSL’s emoluments table

The PS1 scale is Rs 28,000-3%-1,10,000 (page 3). Read in the usual way, basic pay starts at Rs 28,000 and rises in 3% increments to a maximum of Rs 1,10,000. The notice does not spell out the increment rule. CSL’s notice also prints the present monthly emoluments at the start of the scale (page 4):

Part of pay Amount per month
Basic pay Rs 28,000
DA (dearness allowance), at present 59.10% Rs 16,548
HRA (house rent allowance), at present 30% Rs 8,400
Perks and allowances, 35% Rs 9,800
Total Rs 62,748

These are CSL’s own figures, headed “Monthly Emoluments as on date”, and by our check the parts add up to the total. They are amounts before any deductions. The notice does not print deductions such as the employee’s pension contribution, so we do not estimate the take-home amount. The DA and HRA rates are marked “at present”, so they can change.

Other benefits listed are the New Pension Scheme, contributory provident fund, gratuity, accident cover, medical schemes, leave encashment and performance-related pay (page 4). A selected candidate starts at the minimum of the scale, and a higher previous salary is not matched (no pay protection).

Where CKSRU can post you: Kolkata, ships or units abroad

The first posting is at CKSRU in Kolkata or another CSL unit or project site. CSL can transfer you to other units. You may also have to serve on board ships, or at any unit or project in India or abroad (page 4).

The Civil engineer’s listed work covers dry docks, berths, workshops, buildings, roads and drainage at the ship repair yard. It also includes supervising contractors and civil works during ship docking and repairs (pages 1 and 2).

Two written papers in West Bengal, then a 10-minute PowerPoint

Selection has two phases (pages 4 to 6):

Stage Marks Time What it covers
Phase I, objective test (offline) 40 45 minutes Part A: General Knowledge 5, General English 5, Reasoning 5, Quantitative Aptitude 5. Part B: discipline questions 20
Phase I, descriptive test (offline) 40 90 minutes Discipline-related questions
Phase II, PowerPoint presentation 20 Up to 10 minutes Your own work experience

Each objective question carries one mark, and there is no negative marking. The tests are held in West Bengal at a centre CSL chooses, and the presentation is at CKSRU, Kolkata. CSL may also hold the selection through an interview by electronic media (pages 4 and 5).

The order of the gates matters (page 5):

  1. You need at least 50% in the objective test and must meet the eligibility rules. Only then is your descriptive answer sheet marked.
  2. You also need 50% in the descriptive test. The notice sets this 50% pass mark for all categories except PwBD.
  3. Those who pass are called for certificate verification in merit order, aiming for at least 6 candidates for each post. Phase II can go ahead even with fewer.
  4. Only those who clear certificate verification give the presentation.

The rank list uses the total of Phase I and Phase II. If two candidates tie, the marks in the discipline part of the objective test decide. If they still tie, the older candidate ranks higher (page 6). CSL keeps the list for up to 18 months after the last person advised to join reports, or until it advertises the post again (page 12).

The syllabus for Part B covers supervisory skills, motivation, communication, basic computer use, and industrial safety, housekeeping and 5S (a workplace-order method). Discipline topics for civil and mechanical work are added to these (Annexure I).

Registering once on CSL’s job portal, then applying for CKSRU

The fee is Rs 400 plus bank charges, paid online by card or net banking between 5 and 27 November 2026. SC and ST applicants are exempt. For everyone else, the application is considered only after the fee arrives, and it is not refunded (pages 8 and 9).

The form is on cochinshipyard.in, under the Career page and then CKSRU, Kolkata. It has two steps: a one-time registration on what the notice calls the “SAP Online portal”, then the application (pages 8 and 9). Points to note:

  • The notice asks you to read the User Manual and FAQ, which it places on the CKSRU careers page, before filling in the form (page 8).
  • Submit only one application. It is final once submitted, and changes after that are not considered.
  • Missing uploads mean rejection, so attach your birth proof, diploma, every experience letter, any caste certificate and a recent colour photo.
  • After submitting, check that My Applications shows “In process”; incomplete, draft or withdrawn applications are not considered.
  • Keep the registration number. You need not send the printout, certificates or fee to CSL by post (page 9).
  • Technical help may not be available after 4 PM on 27 November 2026 (page 10).

Government and PSU employees apply directly but must upload the Annexure II declaration that they have told their employer. Ex-servicemen upload the Annexure III undertaking and their discharge papers (pages 7 and 8). Regular CSL employees cannot apply for these posts at the same pay scale (page 8).

After the written test: travel refund, checks and joining at CKSRU

Page 11 offers a travel refund to candidates appearing for the “Personal Interview”. It is one to-and-fro third AC rail fare by the shortest route from their mailing address to CKSRU, Kolkata, as per company rules and on proof. The selection section mentions only an “interview via electronic media”, not a personal interview, so we read this as the Kolkata stage. To claim it, hand in a copy of the front page of your savings bank passbook, showing account number and IFSC, at certificate verification; the refund is paid by NEFT. This does not apply if the selection is held online, or if you are found ineligible at verification (page 11).

Appointment is subject to checks of character and antecedents, and of caste certificates where they apply. You also need a medical test at a hospital CSL names, and an undertaking on CSL’s smartphone policy. Call letters come only by e-mail or on the CSL website (pages 11 and 12). Queries go to career.cksru@cochinshipyard.in or (033) 29500058 (page 13).

Before you apply, gather proof for every job in your seven years. For past jobs, that is a certificate with joining and relieving dates. For your current job, it is a certificate, or the appointment letter and latest pay slip. Contractor certificates need the principal employer’s endorsement (page 7).

Cochin Shipyard’s Mumbai unit has a separate contract recruitment for workmen and safety assistants: see the CSL CMSRU Welder, Fitter and Safety Assistant recruitment. Diploma holders can also look at the SCL Mohali Technician and Technical Assistant recruitment. Find more on our pages for PSU jobs, diploma jobs and West Bengal government jobs.
