Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) needs six people on contract at its Mumbai Ship Repair Unit (CMSRU): a Welder, a Fitter Pipe-Plumber, a Mooring and Scaffolding Assistant and three Safety Assistants. That is CSL CMSRU Recruitment 2026, spread over two notices. These are not regular jobs. The contract lasts up to five years, on a consolidated (fixed) monthly pay of Rs 22,100 to Rs 23,300 in the first year. Both online forms run from 14 October to 12 November 2026. The workmen posts need Class 10 (SSLC), an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) certificate for two of them, and three years of trade work. The Safety Assistant post needs Class 10, a one-year safety or fire diploma and one year of safety training or experience.

CSL documents used: the workmen notice No. CSL/CMSRU/GEN/PROP & APPR/MANPOWER ON CONTRACT/2025/92, 9 pages in English. Its title line says 14 October 2026 and its page footer says 10 October 2026. The second is the 8-page Safety Assistant notice No. CSL/CMSRU/GEN/ADMIN/On-contract posts for CMSRU Sa/2026/17 dated 14 October 2026. Both sit on the CSL careers pages for the workmen posts and the Safety Assistant posts. On 15 October 2026 the CSL website showed no corrigendum or date extension for either notice. Each page listed its notice in English and Hindi, registration and apply links, and a last date of 12 November 2026. The pages also carry CSL’s general links, such as a user manual and an FAQ.

Six CSL CMSRU Recruitment 2026 seats: one each for Welder, Fitter and Mooring, three for Safety Assistant

Post UR ST Total
Fabrication Assistant (Welder) 1 0 1
Outfit Assistant (Fitter Pipe – Plumber) 1 0 1
Mooring and Scaffolding Assistant 0 1 1
Safety Assistant 3 0 3
Total 5 1 6

UR means unreserved and ST means Scheduled Tribe. The only ST seat is the Mooring and Scaffolding post, and an ST candidate needs a recent ST certificate signed by a Tahsildar or a more senior revenue officer. The number of posts can still go up or down, and CSL may decide not to hire. Both notices also say that persons with benchmark disabilities (PwBD) should not apply, because the work is hazardous. People already employed by CSL in the same posts cannot apply.

CSL CMSRU workmen: SSLC, an ITI for Welder and Fitter, and three years of trade work

  • Fabrication Assistant (Welder): SSLC pass and ITI-NTC (National Trade Certificate) in the Welder trade, plus at least three years of experience or training in the trade after that. Hindi or Marathi skills and experience of MIG (metal inert gas, CO2) welding are desirable.
  • Outfit Assistant (Fitter Pipe – Plumber): SSLC pass and ITI-NTC in Fitter Pipe or Plumber, plus at least three years of trade experience or training.
  • Mooring and Scaffolding Assistant: SSLC pass and at least three years of experience or training in structural, mooring, scaffolding or rigging work. An ITI-NTC holder in Sheet Metal Worker, Fitter Pipe (Plumber) or Fitter needs one year less.

For all four posts, only experience gained after you passed the required qualification counts. It is counted up to 12 November 2026, and you must describe your duties in the online form and upload the experience certificate. For the three workmen posts, a completed apprenticeship in the trade, or any paid training, counts as experience for eligibility. But the workmen notice says such training does not count when CSL fixes your monthly pay.

One-year safety or fire diploma for the CMSRU Safety Assistant

You need an SSLC pass and a one-year diploma in Safety or Fire from a government-recognised institute or a public sector undertaking (PSU). You also need at least one year of safety training or experience in a PSU, factory, construction company or engineering company. Any paid training counts as experience.

Upper age 45 for CMSRU workmen, 30 for Safety Assistant, on 12 November 2026

Post Upper age on 12 November 2026 Born on or after
Welder, Fitter Pipe-Plumber, Mooring and Scaffolding 45 years 13 November 1981
Safety Assistant 30 years 13 November 1996

Neither notice states a lower age limit. For the workmen posts, ST candidates get 5 more years in the post reserved for them. Ex-servicemen get relaxation under central government rules, up to 50 years for workmen and up to 45 years for Safety Assistant.

Fixed pay for Welder, Fitter and Mooring over three years, and one Safety Assistant figure

This is a consolidated (fixed) monthly pay, not a pay scale. The workmen notice gives a three-year table for candidates who meet the minimum experience:

Post Year Monthly pay Extra hours (per month)
Welder and Fitter Pipe-Plumber 1st Rs 23,300 Rs 5,830
Welder and Fitter Pipe-Plumber 2nd Rs 24,000 Rs 6,000
Welder and Fitter Pipe-Plumber 3rd Rs 24,800 Rs 6,200
Mooring and Scaffolding 1st Rs 22,100 Rs 5,530
Mooring and Scaffolding 2nd Rs 22,800 Rs 5,700
Mooring and Scaffolding 3rd Rs 23,400 Rs 5,850

The workmen notice adds that CSL may pay more for each extra completed year as a direct (on-roll) employee of CSL or a similar shipyard. The Safety Assistant notice gives only the first-year pay of Rs 23,300. It says a yearly increase will apply and that Safety Assistants will be eligible for extra hours of work, but it gives no amounts.

The posting can be at the Mumbai unit, other CSL units or project sites, on board ships, anywhere in India or abroad. CSL is not bound to offer you a job during or after the contract.

Practical test marks, and a physical test for two CMSRU posts

Post Practical test Physical test
Welder and Fitter Pipe-Plumber 100 marks None
Mooring and Scaffolding 80 marks 20 marks
Safety Assistant 70 marks 30 marks (running and push-ups)

You need at least 50% in each test. For the ST-reserved Mooring and Scaffolding seat, the pass mark is 40%. In the workmen table, the words “(Based on grades obtained in Practical test)” sit under the Mooring and Scaffolding physical test line, with a ** mark. The ** footnote says that when many people apply, the practical test will be graded and the grades turned into marks. It is not clear whether the physical test marks also come from those grades. CSL may lower the pass mark if too few people qualify.

CSL first shortlists from the certificates you upload. Then it checks your original certificates. Only those who clear that check sit the tests, in Mumbai. On equal marks, the candidate born earlier gets the higher rank. CSL can use this list for up to 18 months after the last selected person reports, unless it issues a new notice for these posts. It may also fill later vacancies from it with the competent authority’s approval. A medical test comes before appointment. You also sign an undertaking on CSL’s smartphone policy. CSL pays no travel allowance for the tests.

One-time SAP registration, then the CMSRU form (fee Rs 300 or Rs 200)

The workmen fee is Rs 300 and the Safety Assistant fee is Rs 200, plus bank charges. Neither is refundable. There is no fee for Scheduled Caste (SC) and ST applicants. Pay online only, by card or net banking.

  1. The CMSRU careers page (Career page, then CMSRU, Mumbai) has a user guide and a question-and-answer sheet; read both first.
  2. Complete the one-time registration on CSL’s SAP online recruitment portal, then apply. You can apply only once, and you cannot change the form after you submit it.
  3. Attach your birth proof, Class 10 and ITI or diploma papers, experience letters, caste certificate and a recent passport-size colour photo. A form without these is rejected.
  4. Still in a job without an experience letter? Your appointment or offer letter and your latest pay slip will do.
  5. Your form counts only when “My Applications” shows it as “In process”. A saved draft does not count.
  6. Keep the registration number. CSL sends call letters by email and on its website, not by post.

The notices warn that there may be no technical help after 4 PM on 12 November 2026. For questions, CSL gives the email cmsru.career@cochinshipyard.in and the phone number 9840012761.

More openings: Maharashtra government jobs, PSU jobs, ITI jobs and 10th pass jobs. Cochin Shipyard’s subsidiary, Udupi Cochin Shipyard, is also hiring: see the UCSL Supervisor posts. ITI mechanics can also look at the ITBP Head Constable Motor Mechanic recruitment.
