UCSL Supervisor Recruitment 2026: Nesting and Mechanical Posts at Malpe

UCSL Supervisor Recruitment 2026 has two different seats. Supervisor (Nesting) is unreserved (UR), so anyone eligible can apply. Supervisor (Mechanical) is kept for a Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidate. Both are regular jobs at Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited (UCSL) in Malpe, Karnataka. They need a diploma and 7 years of work in shipbuilding, offshore, marine or government firms. Applications close on 28 October 2026; the portal opened on 7 October 2026. The age limit is 45 years on 28 October 2026 (50 for an ST candidate on the ST seat), and 2 of your 7 years must be at supervisor level. A B.Tech without the 3-year diploma does not count.

UCSL Supervisor Recruitment 2026: one Nesting seat and one ST Mechanical seat

Nesting is the planning of how parts are cut from steel plates with the least waste. It is often done on CAD-CAM software that drives CNC cutting machines. The diploma must be a 3-year course from a State Board of Technical Education. The board or institute must be recognised by AICTE (the All India Council for Technical Education), another proper statutory body, or the government (page 5).

The experience must come from a shipbuilding company, an offshore fabrication company, a marine-related engineering company, or a government or semi-government company or establishment. For the Mechanical post, ship repair firms also count. Knowledge of MS Project, MS Office and SAP is listed as desirable, not essential.

UCSL can raise or cut the number of posts, or cancel the recruitment (page 2). Persons with benchmark disabilities (PwBD) can apply only for Supervisor (Nesting). The notice allows low vision, deaf and hard of hearing, and certain locomotor disabilities such as one arm or one leg. It says the yard does hazardous work, so other disabilities are not included.

UCSL apprenticeship, contractor work and current jobs: proving seven years

Pages 6 and 7 set rules on experience that decide who gets shortlisted:

• Only work done after you passed the diploma counts. UCSL measures it up to 28 October 2026.
• A completed apprenticeship under the Apprentices Act 1961 in your field counts as experience. So does paid training. But training does not count toward the 2 years at supervisor level.
• Experience letters are accepted only from companies registered under the Companies Act 1956, or similar foreign companies (page 6). Page 1 also accepts work at a government or semi-government establishment, and the notice does not say how this rule applies to such work. • Work for a contractor (a proprietary or partnership firm) counts only if the main company endorses the certificate. You must also attach ESI or EPF statements, which are records of the contributions your employer paid for you.
• If you still work somewhere and have no experience letter, upload your appointment or offer letter and your latest pay slip.
• Describe your duties in the form, and upload proof of them.

Several qualification rules matter as well (pages 5 and 6). A higher degree such as B.Tech or M.Sc is not considered without the prescribed diploma. An “equivalent” diploma needs an equivalency certificate from the competent authority. Enter your exact percentage of marks. If your board gives only grade points and no conversion rule, multiply them by 10.

Age limit of 45 for UCSL Supervisor, or 50 at most with relaxation

The upper age limit is 45 years on 28 October 2026, so you must be born on or after 29 October 1981. ST candidates get 5 more years for the ST post. Ex-servicemen get relaxation as per central government rules. Even with all relaxations together, the limit cannot go above 50 years. The notice does not state a minimum age.

Grade S1 pay at UCSL, and a perks figure that does not add up

Both posts are in Grade S1, with a pay scale written as Rs 28,000-3%-1,10,000 (a 3% increment rate). Page 3 gives the monthly pay “as on date”. These are the notice’s own figures:

One figure in this table does not match its own rate. The notice does not say what the 35% is a share of. As a share of the Rs 28,000 basic, like DA and HRA, it is Rs 9,800, but the notice prints Rs 10,500 for perks. With Rs 9,800, the total would be Rs 56,196. The notice, dated 7 October 2026, gives DA “at present” as 55.7% of basic. DA is a cost-of-living top-up, set as a share of basic pay. Its rate changes from time to time, so the total you get may differ from the notice’s figure. The notice lists no deductions and gives no take-home figure. Other benefits listed include the National Pension System, a contributory provident fund, accident cover, medical expense cover under a contributory scheme, and leave encashment, where the rules allow.

The pay comes with two conditions. Everyone joins at the bottom of the scale, and pay from your current job is not protected. You can also be sent to other UCSL units, project sites or ships, in India or abroad.

80 marks of written test and a PowerPoint of up to 10 minutes on your work experience

Selection has two phases, worth 100 marks in total (pages 3 and 4):

1. Phase I, written test (80 marks), offline at Malpe: a 45-minute objective paper of 40 questions, one mark each, with no negative marking. It has 5 questions each on general knowledge, English, reasoning and numerical ability, and 20 on your discipline. There is also a 90-minute descriptive paper of 40 marks on your discipline.
2. Phase II, presentation (20 marks): a PowerPoint talk of up to 10 minutes on your work experience.

The pass mark is 50% of total marks for the UR post and 40% for ST candidates. For certificate checks, UCSL aims to call qualified candidates in merit order in a ratio of at least 6 per post. The rank list adds Phase I and Phase II marks. If two people tie, the discipline part of the objective paper decides, then the older candidate goes first. The list stays valid for up to 18 months from the day the last selected candidate reports, or until a fresh notice for the same post. Later vacancies can be filled from it.

SAP registration, uploads and the Rs 400 fee for Vacancy Notification 97

1. Read the user manual and FAQ on the Cochin Shipyard careers page (UCSL, Malpe section) or on the udupicsl.com careers page.
2. Do the one-time registration on the SAP online portal, then apply for one post. You may send only one application, and it cannot be changed after you submit it.
3. Upload proof of age, diploma, experience, caste or disability, and a recent colour passport-size photo. A missing document means rejection.
4. Pay Rs 400 plus bank charges online by bank card or net banking. SC and ST candidates pay nothing. The fee is not refunded.
5. Open “My Applications” and check that the status reads “In process”. Draft or withdrawn forms are not considered.

Government and PSU staff apply directly, but must upload Annexure I. It is a declaration that you told your employer in writing about this application. An objection from your employer ends your candidature. Ex-servicemen upload Annexure II, an undertaking that they have not already taken a government job using ex-servicemen benefits.

SC and ST candidates called for document checks can claim one return sleeper class train or bus fare by the shortest route. They must show proof of travel and give a copy of their bank passbook’s front page.

Supervisor-level years, contractor letters and your PowerPoint: getting them ready

1. Count your years after the diploma up to 28 October 2026, and check that at least 2 were at supervisor level, outside training.
2. Collect experience letters with joining and leaving dates. Get a contractor certificate endorsed by the main company, with ESI or EPF proof.
3. Prepare a short PowerPoint on your nesting, piping or outfitting work, since it carries 20 of the 100 marks.
