An ITI alone will not get you a BHEL Artisan post: you also need a National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) in the same trade. A three-year NAC taken straight after Class 10 also counts (Corrigendum 02/2026). BHEL Artisan Recruitment 2027 (Advt. 01/2026) has 660 Artisan Grade IV posts in nine BHEL factories, including Haridwar, Bhopal, Jhansi and Tiruchirappalli. Apply online between 21 October and 18 November 2026. The form shuts at 11:45 PM on the last day, and BHEL expects the exam on 11 December 2026. You may apply for one factory and one trade only. The selected Artisan must stay at that factory for at least 20 years.

BHEL papers for Advt. 01/2026: the six-page Detailed Advertisement, the unit-wise breakup of vacancies , Corrigendum 01/2026 dated 26 October 2026 and Corrigendum 02/2026 dated 2 November 2026. All are on the BHEL careers website. Page numbers in brackets refer to the Detailed Advertisement. On 5 November 2026 the BHEL careers page listed these two corrigenda for Artisan Recruitment 2027 and no change to the dates.

Tiruchirappalli 150, Visakhapatnam 120: where the BHEL Artisan Recruitment 2027 posts are

The posts are spread over seven trades and nine manufacturing units (page 1). BHEL says the requirement in this table is “tentative” and may vary.

Unit Place Posts
High Pressure Boiler Plant (HPBP) Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu 150
Heavy Plates and Vessels Plant (HPVP) Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh 120
Boiler Auxiliaries Plant (BAP) Ranipet, Tamil Nadu 75
Heavy Electrical Equipment Plant (HEEP) Haridwar, Uttarakhand 60
Heavy Power Equipment Plant (HPEP) Hyderabad, Telangana 60
Heavy Electrical Plant (HEP) Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh 60
Transformer Plant (TP) Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh 60
Electronics Division (EDN) Bengaluru, Karnataka 45
Solar Business Division (SBD) Bengaluru, Karnataka 30
Total 660

By trade, there are 278 Fitter, 104 Welder, 52 Turner, 101 Machinist, 90 Electrician, 23 Electronics Mechanic and 12 Foundryman posts. Some trade cells in the breakup are zero. Electronics Mechanic posts are only at Bengaluru EDN (20) and Visakhapatnam (3). Jhansi has no Turner posts. Hyderabad has no Welder posts.

The unit rows on page 2 add up to 285 unreserved (UR) posts and 65 for EWS (economically weaker section). The rest are 162 for OBC (Other Backward Classes), 115 for SC (Scheduled Castes) and 33 for ST (Scheduled Tribes). Each unit also marks posts for persons with disability (PwD) and ex-servicemen. Some posts are partly kept for dependents of BHEL employees who died in service. If they are not filled that way, they may be filled through open selection.

BHEL HEEP Haridwar, HEP Bhopal and TP Jhansi: 180 Artisan seats by trade

The breakup PDF shows the trade-wise split for each unit. For the three units in Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh:

Trade HEEP Haridwar HEP Bhopal TP Jhansi
Fitter 20 19 22
Welder 6 3 10
Turner 5 3 0
Machinist 14 15 10
Electrician 12 18 18
Foundryman 3 2 0
Total 60 60 60

BHEL lists knowledge of Hindi as “desirable” for these units (page 2). For the units in Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, it lists the regional language.

BHEL also wants the NAC, with 60% in both ITI and NAC

The rule on page 2 is Class 10, plus an ITI certificate, the National Trade Certificate (NTC), plus a National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) in the same trade. You need at least 60% marks in both the ITI and the NAC if you are General or OBC, and 55% if you are SC or ST. An ITI alone is not enough. Only full-time regular courses count (page 3).

SC, ST and PwD candidates who apply against an unreserved post get no relaxation in this percentage. Ex-servicemen with a trade equivalency certificate from an Army, Air Force or Navy institute do not need the minimum marks.

Corrigendum of 26 October: ITI and NAC papers by document verification

The advertisement first said you must hold the ITI and NAC certificates or mark sheets by 1 October 2026 (pages 2 and 3). Corrigendum 01/2026, dated 26 October 2026, changes this. The cut-off is now the date of the Document Verification cum Skill Test. If you do not have the required certificates or mark sheets by the date of document verification, you cannot go on in the selection.

One BHEL page still shows the old date. Question 2 of the BHEL FAQs page (labelled “updated”, with no date) still says your ITI and NAC papers must be valid on 1 October 2026. It adds that later mark sheets will not be considered. The corrigendum is the signed notice, so we follow it. Still, if your NAC result came after 1 October 2026, keep your papers ready and check the careers website again before you pay the fee.

Corrigendum of 2 November: NAC taken as a fresher now counts for BHEL Artisan

Corrigendum 02/2026, dated 2 November 2026, widens the qualification. Class 10 with an NAC now also counts if you got the NAC through a two-year ITI course and then one year of apprenticeship. BHEL gives the Electrician trade as an example. It also counts if you did the three-year apprenticeship straight as a fresher. A fresher with only an NAC must fill the same marks in the ITI (NTC) field of the form. BHEL then treats that person as equal to the notified qualification. The corrigendum does not change the 60% and 55% marks rule or the other dates.

Work experience can add up to 7 years to the BHEL Artisan age limit

Age is counted on 1 October 2026 (page 3). The upper limit is 27 years for General and EWS candidates. The advertisement prints no minimum age. Relaxations on top of 27:

  • SC and ST: 5 years; OBC (non-creamy layer): 3 years;
  • persons with disability: 10 years for General, 13 for OBC (NCL) and 15 for SC and ST;
  • work experience: up to 7 years, if you have at least 6 months of relevant experience in BHEL’s format;
  • people who normally lived in Jammu and Kashmir from 1 January 1980 to 31 December 1989: 5 years;
  • ex-servicemen: as per government rules.

BHEL’s FAQs add one catch. A reserved-category candidate gets age relaxation only for trades that have posts earmarked for that category at the chosen unit. If your trade at that unit has no post for your category, you apply as UR and get no category relaxation (FAQ 9). Check the unit-wise breakup before you choose.

Whatever you combine, your age cannot exceed 56 years on 1 October 2026. The notice does not say how many years of relaxation each year of experience earns; it gives only the 7-year maximum and the 6-month minimum.

A year as Temporary Artisan on Rs 24,000 before Grade IV pay

Selected candidates first work as “Temporary Artisans” for one year on a fixed Rs 24,000 a month (page 3). After they complete that year successfully, BHEL makes them permanent (regular) as Artisan Grade IV. They start at the minimum of the pay scale of Rs 29,500 to Rs 65,000, with the allowances in force at that time. Regularisation follows BHEL’s own rules. The notice does not give the allowances, so we have not estimated take-home pay.

BHEL gives preference to the Best Apprentice and Runner-up Apprentice of the All India Skill Competition (page 4). The competition is held by the Directorate General of Employment and Training. These candidates still take the computer test (Computer Based Examination, CBE) and the skill test. If selected, a Best Apprentice joins with 2 increments and a Runner-up at the minimum of the scale.

One factory, one trade and a 20-year stay

Page 2 sets these conditions:

  • The computer test for all units is on the same day, so you can apply for only one unit and one trade. If you submit more than one form, only the last one counts (page 5). BHEL’s FAQs say it only “encourages” one unit and one trade and that admit cards would be issued for each. Do not count on that, and apply once.
  • You must serve at your allotted factory for at least 20 years. BHEL will not take any transfer request in that period.
  • Page 2 also has a note on transfers asked for “unavoidable personal reasons”. BHEL will consider such a request only if a suitable position is available. It is also only “on reversion to the original post on which he/she was absorbed”, which means going back to the post you first joined in. The notice does not say how this fits with the 20-year rule.

Some people already with BHEL cannot apply. This covers anyone selected or engaged as a temporary employee or for another post who is not yet regular or is still on probation.

Only the computer test marks decide BHEL Artisan merit

Selection has two stages, and you must clear both (pages 3 and 4). Stage I is the CBE in your trade. You can take it in Hindi, English, Kannada, Telugu or Tamil, and you can list up to five test centres (page 5). The minimum CBE score is 40% for UR and EWS and 30% for OBC (NCL), SC and ST. PwD and ex-servicemen candidates can be shortlisted down to 30% (UR and EWS) or 22.5% (OBC, SC and ST).

BHEL calls three candidates per vacancy in each trade and category of your unit for Stage II. Where there is a single vacancy, it calls up to five. Stage II is document verification followed by a skill test. The skill test is qualifying only. Final merit is based on the CBE score alone. A medical examination by the Company’s authorised officer comes before joining, with no relaxation in health standards.

SC, ST, PwD and ex-servicemen still pay the BHEL processing fee

Category Exam fee Processing fee Total
UR, EWS and OBC Rs 600 Rs 400 + GST Rs 1,072
SC, ST, PwD and ex-servicemen Nil Rs 400 + GST Rs 472

The fee is non-refundable, and you may also have to pay bank charges (page 5). OBC candidates need a central-list non-creamy layer certificate issued on or after 1 January 2026. EWS candidates need an income and asset certificate valid for 2026-27, shown at document verification. Employees of central or state governments, autonomous bodies and PSUs apply through their employer (proper channel). Or they bring an NOC (No Objection Certificate) at document verification (page 6).

After BHEL Artisan: CSIR-CFTRI and ISRO URSC technician posts

See our jobs for ITI holders and PSU jobs pages, and the all-India government jobs list. ITI holders can also compare the CSIR-CFTRI Technician posts in Mysuru and the ISRO URSC Technician posts. Our older page on the BHEL Haridwar trade apprenticeship covers the apprenticeship route that leads to an NAC.

Picking a BHEL unit and trade for Advt. 01/2026

  1. Check your ITI and NAC marks against the 60% (or 55%) rule, and your age against 27 plus any relaxation.

  3. Apply from the BHEL careers website by 11:45 PM on 18 November 2026, and keep your e-mail active for a year.
