For ITI holders who want a foot inside a major public-sector engineering plant, BHEL Haridwar has opened 187 trade apprentice seats, free to apply and decided purely on your marks. There is no written exam. But be clear from the start: this is apprenticeship training, not a BHEL job, and the notification says so in plain words. The online window is short, running from 2 July to 15 July 2026, so this is a now-or-wait decision.

Read from the official notification (verified 12 July 2026). BHEL, Heavy Electrical Equipment Plant (HEEP), Ranipur, Haridwar, Uttarakhand, reference HR/Recruitment/Trade Apprentice/2026/111, dated 2 July 2026, for Trade Apprentice engagement 2026-27 under the Apprentices Act, 1961. Trade counts, eligibility, dates and selection below are taken from the official circular on hwr.bhel.com.

Training, Not a BHEL Job: Be Clear on This

The notification is blunt about it, and you should be too. This is trade apprenticeship training under the Apprentices Act, 1961, for the 2026-27 batch, with engagement likely from September 2026. The circular states in its own instructions that candidates who complete the training at BHEL Haridwar will have no right to claim any kind of employment at BHEL on the basis of it. So treat this as what it is: a structured year of hands-on training inside a large public-sector engineering plant, a real credential on your resume and a genuine skill-building stint, but not a permanent job and not a backdoor into one. Anyone telling you an apprenticeship here guarantees a BHEL posting is misleading you.

187 Seats Across Seven Trades

The seats are split trade by trade, and you apply for the trade your ITI is in:

Trade Seats
Fitter 74
Machinist 36
Turner 26
Electrician 26
Welder 17
Draughtsman (Mechanical) 4
Foundryman 4

Fitter alone accounts for 74 of the 187 seats, so it is the widest door, while Draughtsman and Foundryman have just four each. The notification notes these counts are tentative and may change on final assessment.

Who Can Apply: ITI, Marks and the Disqualifiers

  • Qualification: a 10th pass plus an ITI in the relevant trade from an NCVT-recognised institute, passed in 2023, 2024, 2025 or 2026. For Welder and Electrician, an SCVT-recognised ITI is also accepted; the other trades need NCVT.
  • Minimum marks: 60% in the ITI for General, EWS and OBC-NCL, and 55% for SC and ST.
  • Who is barred: anyone who has already done apprenticeship training after ITI, or has one year or more of work experience, or is currently enrolled in a regular course. An ITI passed as a private candidate in 2026 is also not eligible.
  • Age as on 1 July 2026: minimum 18, with upper limits of 27 (General), 30 (OBC-NCL) and 32 (SC/ST), and a 10-year relaxation for PwD candidates.

No Exam: How the Merit List Is Built

There is no written test here. Selection is a straight merit calculation from your existing marks, using a weighted average of 70% of your ITI marks and 30% of your 10th marks. If two candidates tie, the higher ITI percentage wins, and if they still tie, the older candidate is placed first. Where a trade has fewer eligible applicants than seats, everyone eligible is called directly. Reservation for SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS and PwD applies as per rules, and a medical fitness certificate is required before training begins.

The Two-Step Application (Portal First, Then BHEL)

  1. Register first on the national apprenticeship portal at apprenticeshipindia.gov.in and complete Aadhaar verification. A faulty profile here makes your BHEL application invalid, so get this right.
  2. Then apply on hwr.bhel.com/recruitment under the Trade Apprenticeship 2026 link, uploading your photo and documents.
  3. Print the acknowledgement slip, attach self-attested copies of your documents, and post or hand-deliver them to the HR Recruitment Section at BHEL Haridwar by 27 July 2026. The online form closes on 15 July, but this hard-copy step has its own later deadline.

Stipend, Timeline and Uttarakhand Priority

Apprentices receive a monthly stipend during training as per Apprentices Act rates. The notification does not print a specific rupee figure, so treat any amount you see on other sites as unofficial until BHEL states it. Applications are open all-India, but candidates with Uttarakhand domicile get priority in selection, and to claim it you must upload a valid Uttarakhand domicile certificate. The training runs for the 2026-27 batch with engagement expected from September 2026.

Should You Apply?

If you are a recent ITI holder with strong marks, this is a worthwhile year: real shop-floor training at a Maharatna-class engineering plant, no fee, and no exam to clear, with your existing marks doing the work. Go in with the right expectation that it ends as a trained apprentice, not a BHEL employee. The pressing detail is the calendar: the online form closes on 15 July 2026 and the documents must reach Haridwar by 27 July, so do not leave either to the last day.
