Birbhum NHM Staff Nurse Recruitment 2026 is part of a contract notice with nine roles. It covers 47 posts (our total of the nine rows; the notice prints no total) under the National Health Mission (NHM) in Birbhum district, West Bengal. The current notice is Memo No. DHFWS-II/HR-2026/782, dated 6 November 2026, which replaced memo 774 of 5 November. It includes 12 Staff Nurse posts, 15 Medical Officer (GDMO) posts and 10 Community Health Assistant posts for women. These are contract jobs on a monthly amount, consolidated for most posts, from Rs 13,000 to Rs 60,000 depending on the post. The online form runs from 11 AM on 6 November 2026 to midnight on 27 November 2026, but registration and fee payment close at midnight on 25 November 2026. Only permanent residents of West Bengal can apply, and the age limit for most posts is 21 to 40 on 1 January 2026.

Notice used: the 10-page scanned Birbhum NHM notification, Memo 782 (PDF), signed by the Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH), Birbhum on 6 November 2026. Its first page calls it a “Corrigendum notice in place of” memo 774 of 5 November 2026, so this page follows memo 782. It is a scan, so each line here is our reading of the page images. It is listed in the Recruitments section of wbhealth.gov.in. On 7 November 2026 that list gave it the dates 06 Nov 2026 to 27 Nov 2026, and memo 774 was no longer listed.

Total (our sum) 47

GNM is General Nursing and Midwifery and ANM is Auxiliary Nurse Midwife. GDMO means General Duty Medical Officer. TBHV and STLS are tuberculosis programme posts under the National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP). NUHM is the National Urban Health Mission, RKSK the national adolescent health programme, and FRU a First Referral Unit. NPHCE is the national programme for the health care of the elderly, and U-HWC an urban health and wellness centre. DMLT and BMLT are the diploma and bachelor’s courses in medical laboratory technology.

STLS is the Senior TB Laboratory Supervisor post, the name memo 782 prints on pages 1 and 4. The list on page 1 puts STLS as item D and TBHV as item E, but the detail pages swap the two letters. Each has one unreserved post either way.

UR(EC), OBC(EC) and EWS(EC) seats and the state’s Exempted Category roster

Each post has its own category split (pages 1 to 6):

  • Staff Nurse (12): UR(EC) 3, UR 3, SC 3, EWS 1, OBC(EC) 1, ST 1
  • Community Health Assistant (10): UR 6, UR(EC) 1, SC 2, EWS(EC) 1
  • Multi Rehabilitation Worker (6): UR(PwBD) 1, UR(EC) 2, UR 1, SC 1, EWS 1
  • GDMO for FRU (4): UR 2, ST 1, EWS 1
  • GDMO RKSK (3): OBC 1, UR(EC) 1, SC 1
  • GDMO NUHM/15th FC (8): UR(EC) 2, EWS 1, SC 2, OBC(EC) 1, UR 2
  • TBHV and STLS: 1 unreserved post each. Block Programme Coordinator (2): UR 1, SC 1

Twelve of the 47 seats carry the mark “(EC)” (our count). Memo 782 does not spell EC out. On page 8 it cites the state’s Model 100-Point Roster, Labour Department notification Labr/85-Emp/EC/1M-01/2025 of 25 May 2026 (PDF). That roster uses “E.C.” for seats kept for Exempted Category candidates. If no suitable Exempted Category candidate is found, the roster gives the seat to another candidate of the same category, such as UR, OBC or EWS. Memo 782 does not say who may claim an EC seat or what proof to upload. Ask the Birbhum HR cell (hrcellbirbhum@gmail.com) before you apply against such a seat.

West Bengal residence, Bengali and the Birbhum-only posts

Every applicant must be a permanent resident of West Bengal and know the local language (page 1). Two posts go further:

  • Community Health Assistant is for women only, needs proficiency in Bengali, and needs residence in Birbhum district. Proof of permanent residence must be attested by a Gazetted Officer or a Group A officer, and is checked at verification (page 3).
  • Block Programme Coordinator needs permanent residence in Birbhum district (page 7).

Caste and disability certificates count only if issued on or before the last date by competent authorities of West Bengal (page 8). OBC claims follow the state notification Labr/85-Emp/EC/1M-01/2025 dated 25.05.2026, subject to pending court cases (page 8).

Only an upper age limit for Block Programme Coordinator; the other eight posts start at 21

For eight of the nine posts, the age band is 21 to 40 years on 1 January 2026 (pages 2 to 6). Reserved categories get relaxation as per government norms; most posts name SC, ST and OBC. For the Block Programme Coordinator, the notice gives only an upper limit of 40 years on 1 January 2026 (page 6).

All essential qualifications must be complete by the last date of the online form. Experience counts only after you obtain the required qualification, up to that last date (page 7).

GNM or B.Sc. Nursing marks decide the 12-post Staff Nurse merit list

Memo 782 changed the Staff Nurse rules (pages 2 and 3). You can now apply with either of these:

  • the GNM course from an institute recognised by the Indian Nursing Council or the West Bengal Nursing Council (WBNC), or
  • a B.Sc. Nursing course.

Either way you must be registered with the WBNC. A WBNC registration certificate or a provisional WBNC certificate is accepted. You also need proficiency in the local language and permanent residence in West Bengal (page 3).

Staff Nurses are ranked on “merit basis in the GNM / B.Sc. Nursing examination” (page 3). Memo 774 had also given marks for Class 10, Class 12 and hospital experience, and memo 782 does not carry those lines. Marks are rounded to 2 decimal places (page 8).

FMG score in place of final MBBS marks for the 15 Birbhum GDMO posts

All three GDMO groups use the same rule. Selection is on MBBS marks (85) and an interview (15). Candidates who studied MBBS abroad use their FMG (foreign medical graduate) examination score in place of the final MBBS score (pages 5 and 6). Each GDMO post pays Rs 60,000 a month, consolidated, and the posting can be in any unit of the Birbhum health district.

Practical computer tests for TBHV and STLS, interview for Birbhum physiotherapists

  • Multi Rehabilitation Worker (50 marks): Class 10, Class 12 and BPT at 10 marks each, MPT 5 extra, experience 10, interview 5. Experience marks are higher for government work (10 for 5 years or more) than for private work (5) (page 2).
  • TBHV (50 marks): Class 10 5, Class 12 10, graduation 15, MPW training 5 extra, experience 10, and a 5-mark practical computer test. Candidates are called in a 1:20 ratio on academics and experience (page 4).
  • STLS (50 marks): Class 10 5, Class 12 10, graduation with DMLT (10 + 5) or BMLT (15), experience 10, and a 10-mark practical computer test. Shortlisting is also 1:20 (pages 4 and 5).
  • Community Health Assistant: merit on the percentage in the ANM or GNM exam (page 3).
  • Block Programme Coordinator: also needs a one-year diploma in computer application (page 6). Selection is by scrutiny, then academic marks, health-project experience, a 10-mark written test and a 10-mark computer test. The marks lines are printed as: graduation 7.5 or postgraduation 15; HS (Class 12) 20 and graduation 30; experience 7.5 (under 2 years) or 15 (2 years or more). The notice does not print a total (page 7).

The panel for each post stays valid for up to one year from its approval (page 7).
