Annexure A splits the original 70 posts into 25 General seats and 11 Scheduled Caste (SC) seats for Mazhabi and Balmiki (M&B). It adds 9 SC seats for Ramdasia and others (R&O), 6 Backward Classes (BC) and 5 Economically Weaker Section (EWS). There are also 9 ex-servicemen seats, 2 sports seats and 3 seats for persons with disabilities (one each for orthopedic, visual and hearing disability).
The women’s seats are counted inside these totals. The corrigendum of 6 October 2026 adds one General seat for Clerk (Legal) in the Directorate of Tourism, Punjab, with no seat kept for women. That makes 26 General seats and 71 posts in all. The corrigendum keeps every other condition of Advt 12 the same. Seat numbers may still change, or posts may be dropped, if a department revises its demand.
Which degree fits which PSSSB clerk post
The same post name can need a different degree in different departments. Department by department:
- Clerk (Legal), six departments in the original notice: a law degree (graduation in law) from a recognised university. Four of the six rows also allow a recognised institution. The corrigendum adds a Tourism Clerk (Legal) post but prints no qualification for it. It says all other conditions of Advt 12 stay the same.
- Clerk (Accounts), Employment Generation department (25 posts): any graduation degree with at least one subject of Statistics, Mathematics or Accounts, plus Punjabi up to Matric.
- Clerk (Accounts), Excise and Taxation (9 posts): a degree in commerce.
- Clerk (IT), Excise and Taxation head office: graduation in Computer Application, Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Computer Technology.
- Clerk (IT), Labour Commissioner (9 posts): B.Tech in Computer Science, B.Sc. (IT) or BCA. Any graduation with a Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Application also works, as does an equal or higher qualification in the relevant discipline.
- Clerk (IT), Civil Aviation: B.E. or B.Tech in IT, Electronics and Communication or Computer Science with at least 50% marks. A BCA with at least 50% marks also works, but only with two years of experience in information and communication technology.
Every clerk qualification in the original notice also lists a typing test in Punjabi and English at 30 words a minute. Ten of its eleven clerk rows also list the Board’s competitive test. The Civil Aviation Clerk (IT) row lists Matric Punjabi instead.
Translator, Driver and Field Artist rules in Advt 12 of 2026
- Translator (6 posts): any graduation, plus a computer course. That can be a computer course lasting 120 hours or more, with practical computer use, from a government-recognised institution or a reputed ISO 9001 certified institution. It can also be a course equal to the ‘O’ Level certificate of DOEACC, now NIELIT, the central government’s computer course body.
- Driver (5 posts): Matric pass, a valid driving licence for both light and heavy vehicles, and at least three years of driving experience.
- Field Artist (1 post): a graduate in Music, Drama or Dance from a recognised university.
The Translator rule names no language. The exam rules for Driver, Translator and Field Artist, given together in one block, mention no driving test.
Class 10 Punjabi for all 71 posts, and qualifications held by 19 October 2026
Rule 17 of the Punjab Civil Services (General and Common Conditions of Service) Rules, 1994 bars appointing anyone who has not passed Matric with Punjabi. Punjabi can be a compulsory or elective subject, or you can have a Punjabi exam the government treats as equal. This covers all 71 posts.
Degrees, licences and other required qualifications must be in hand on 19 October 2026, the form’s last date, unless a post’s service rules set another date. This cut-off rule comes from a Punjab government notification of 21 January 2026.
Who may apply after 37: Punjab SC and BC, disabled candidates, government staff and widows
Age is counted on 1 January 2026. The minimum is 18 for everyone. The upper limits are:
- 37 years for General candidates;
- 42 years for Scheduled Caste and Backward Class residents of Punjab;
- 45 years if you work for the state or central government, with a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from your department at counselling (the document check after the exam);
- 47 years for persons with disabilities resident in Punjab (10 years’ relaxation);
- 40 years for widows, divorced women and some other groups of married women, under a Punjab government letter dated 23 April 1984.
Ex-servicemen of Punjab follow the Punjab Recruitment of Ex-Servicemen Rules, 1982. Their armed forces service is deducted from their age, and the result must not be more than 3 years above the upper limit.
Driver Rs 21,700, Field Artist Rs 25,500, and a Level-2 or Level-5 puzzle at Rs 19,900
The pay table follows the 7th Central Pay Commission scale. A level is a band of the pay matrix that fixes starting pay. The table shows:
- Driver: Rs 21,700 to Rs 69,100 (Level 3);
- Field Artist: Rs 25,500 (Level 4);
- every clerk post and Translator: Rs 19,900.
For Rs 19,900, the level label is not the same in every row. The Defence Services Welfare Clerk (Legal) and the two Excise and Taxation field office rows say Level-5. The Excise head office Clerk (IT), the Labour Commissioner rows, the Civil Aviation Clerk (IT) and the Cultural Affairs Clerk (Legal) say Level-2. The Tourism Clerk (Legal) post added by the corrigendum says L-2. Three rows give no level: Clerk (Legal) and Clerk (Accounts) in Employment Generation, and Clerk (Legal) in Dairy Development. Apart from the Tourism post, all of this is in the pay table on printed pages 8 and 9 of the notice. The notice does not explain the difference, so this page gives no level or in-hand figure for these posts. To confirm the level, call the Board’s helpline on 0172-2298083 or 99885-80229. The notice says Punjab Finance Department letters of 15 January 2015 and 4 October 2016, and later instructions, apply to pay and allowances. It gives no allowance amounts.
Four PSSSB fee slabs, the lowest for ex-servicemen
| Category | Fee |
|---|---|
| General and sportspersons | Rs 1,000 |
| SC, BC and EWS | Rs 250 |
| Ex-servicemen and their dependents | Rs 200 |
| Persons with disabilities | Rs 500 |
No fee is refunded once paid, whatever the reason.
A Punjabi pass paper, a merit paper, and a 30 wpm typing test for clerks
All posts have one written MCQ (multiple choice question) exam in two parts:
- Part A: a Punjabi language paper of Matric standard. It is qualifying only, and you need at least 50% in it.
- Part B: the merit list is made from Part B marks alone. A right answer earns 1 mark; a wrong one costs a quarter mark.
For the clerk posts there is one more step. Candidates called by the Board take a typing test in English and Punjabi at 30 words a minute, on a computer. The Punjabi test uses Raavi, a Gurmukhi font that follows the Unicode standard (the standard that lets the same text show on any computer). The typing test is qualifying only, but you must pass it. A common merit list is then made from the Part B marks of those who passed typing.
If marks are tied, the older candidate ranks higher. Next comes the higher percentage in the required qualification, and then higher Matric marks. Department preference for Clerk (Legal) and Clerk (IT) is taken later. Admit cards, syllabus and pattern will be put on sssb.punjab.gov.in only.
Category codes 101 to 119, and proof of Punjab residence
You pick a category code in the form, and it cannot be changed later. Codes include 101 General, 102 EWS, 103 SC (M&B), 104 SC (R&O) and 105 BC. Ex-servicemen, sports and disability codes run from 106 to 119.
Only Punjab residents can take a reserved seat, and the proof is a Punjab domicile or residence certificate no more than five years old at upload. The next line of para 5(III), on printed pages 2 and 3, calls this certificate compulsory for every candidate, woman or man, of any category. Both lines sit in the reservation clause, and the notice does not say which reading applies. A General candidate from outside Punjab should check with the Board on 0172-2298083 or 99885-80229 before 19 October 2026.
Ex-servicemen seats go first to ex-servicemen themselves, and only then to their dependents.
