JRHMS Specialist Medical Officer 2026 is a contract drive for 306 specialist doctors in Jharkhand’s district and sub-divisional hospitals. It runs through two advertisements: 106 posts under the National Health Mission (NHM) and 200 non-teaching posts under the state Health Department. The advertisements describe no written exam. Each doctor quotes a monthly fee for up to three hospitals, and the lowest acceptable quote is ranked first (L-1) for that hospital. The online form on recruitment.jharkhand.gov.in was first due by 31 October 2026, and a later notice extended it to 15 November 2026. You need an MBBS, a PG degree or diploma in the specialty, and valid medical council registration. You must be 23 to 64 years old on 31 October 2026.

Three JRHMS files behind this page: The NHM advertisement is Advt No. NHM/03/2026 (SMO BID)-2750(MD), dated 30.09.2026 (PDF, 9 pages). The Health Department advertisement is Advt No. HMFW/2026 (SMO BID)-2755(MD), dated 01.10.2026 (PDF, 11 pages). The Hindi extension notice of the NHM Mission Director carries no date of its own (PDF). All three are scans. They are linked from the JRHMS website. On 8 November 2026 the JRHMS website showed no corrigendum, cancellation or result for either SMO bid advertisement after the extension notice, and this page includes that notice.

JRHMS Specialist Medical Officer 2026 Split: 106 NHM and 200 Health Department SMO Slots

The two advertisements share most rules, the bid cap and the dates. The hospital lists, the specialties and a few selection lines differ, as noted below.

Detail NHM advertisement Health Department advertisement
Number and date NHM/03/2026 (SMO BID)-2750(MD), 30.09.2026 HMFW/2026 (SMO BID)-2755(MD), 01.10.2026
Post name Specialist Medical Officer Non-Teaching Specialist Medical Officer
Positions 106 200
PG subjects accepted Anesthesia, Dermatology, ENT, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, General Medicine, Psychiatry, Radiology, Surgery The same list without “General” before Medicine, plus Forensic Science, Pediatrics and Pathology
Form opening, as printed 8/10/2026 at 11:59 PM

The extension notice names both advertisements and says all other terms stay the same. It gives the new date but no time. The original deadline was 11:59 PM, so finishing well before the night of 15 November is the safe choice.

Specialty-Wise Count of the 306 Jharkhand Hospital Slots

Annexure-I of each advertisement lists one row per vacancy, with the district, hospital and specialty. The counts below total the rows of each Annexure-I. The files are scans, so check your row in the PDF. DH means District (Sadar) Hospital and SDH means Sub-Divisional Hospital.

Specialty (as printed) NHM Health Department Total
Obstetrics and Gynaecology 17 20 37
Anesthetist 11 20 31
Radiologist 3 27 30
Surgeon 6 21 27
Orthopedician 13 12 25
ENT 15 9 24
Ophthalmologist 13 10 23
Physician 2 21 23
Dermatologist 13 9 22
Psychiatrist 11 11 22
Forensic Expert 0 19 19
Paediatrician 0 11 11
Pathologist 0 10 10
Cardiologist 2 0 2
Total 106 200 306

Both lists cover 23 districts, from Bokaro, Chatra and Deoghar to Simdega and West Singhbhum. The Health Department list has only one Ranchi slot (a radiologist at SDH Bundu). The NHM list has more Ranchi rows, including two radiologists at the Sadar Hospital radiology hub.

How the L-1 Bid Picks One Doctor for Each JRHMS Facility

This is not a fixed-salary post. You choose up to three facilities from Annexure-I in one form and write a monthly amount for each. The amount cannot be more than Rs 3,00,000 a month. The quote you enter is final, and it must be clear and complete.

  • Each facility is judged on its own. The eligible doctor with the lowest acceptable monthly quote is ranked L-1 for that facility.
  • Two or more doctors may quote the same amount. Then a postgraduate degree beats a diploma. Next come more relevant experience, then date of birth, then other rules of the state personnel department.
  • Persons with disabilities and reserved categories get preference as per government rules, including negotiation at the L-1 rate.
  • To fill a reserved-category quota, the L-2 bidder of that category may be offered the post at the L-1 amount. The Health Department advertisement adds that L-3 and L-4 bidders follow if L-2 cannot fill it. The NHM advertisement mentions only L-2.
  • If the chosen doctor does not join within 30 days, the next eligible bidder may get the offer.
  • The department can reject any quote it finds unacceptable, and being L-1 does not give a right to appointment.

In our reading, a very high quote risks losing the facility, and a low one is likely to become your monthly fee, since the quote is treated as final. The advertisements do not publish any past winning bids or a suggested range.

Three-Year Agreement, Yearly Renewal and the 3 km Stay Rule

  • The job is purely contractual. It lasts only until a regular Specialist Medical Officer is posted to that facility.
  • The agreement may first be signed for three years, but it runs with the financial year and is renewed by mutual consent.
  • There is no claim to a regular job, absorption, seniority or other benefits of regular government staff.
  • The facility you get cannot be transferred.
  • You must live in government quarters if they exist. Otherwise you should ordinarily live within 3 km of the District Hospital.
  • To leave, you give three months’ notice or pay three months’ fee. The department can end the contract with one month’s notice or one month’s pay if your work is found unsatisfactory.
  • Pay is the fixed monthly amount in your agreement. On top of it, you can earn an incentive on health insurance claims raised and settled through your services, under Government Resolution (Sankalp) No. 58(21) dated 11/04/2025.

MBBS, PG Degree or Diploma, Council Registration and the SMO Age Limit

You need an MBBS and a postgraduate degree or diploma in the specialty you bid for, both from institutions recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC). You also need a valid registration with the appropriate medical council. The advertisements say every condition must be met “on the relevant cut-off date”, but they print a date only for age: 31 October 2026. The extension notice changed only the last date and kept all other terms.

Because a degree beats a diploma only when quotes tie, a diploma holder can still win a facility with a lower quote.

JRHMS ran an earlier bid round in 2026, under Advt No. 02/2026 (SMO Bid)-1638(MD) dated 27.02.2026, and an office order of 16 October 2026 provisionally picked specialists from its wait list. That order belongs to the earlier round, not to the two advertisements on this page.

MBBS, PG and Council Certificates to Scan Before the JRHMS Bid

Apply only online on recruitment.jharkhand.gov.in. Forms by post, e-mail or hand are not accepted. The form counts as submitted only when the portal shows “Submitted Successfully”. Keep these ready to upload:

  • A recent passport-size photo and your signature
  • Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets and certificates
  • MBBS and postgraduate degree or diploma documents
  • Experience certificates. If you work now, your appointment letter and last three months’ salary certificate or bank statement can be used instead.
  • Caste certificate from a competent authority of the Government of Jharkhand, if you claim a category
  • Disability certificate, if it applies
  • Medical Council registration certificate
  • An undertaking about your present job or no job, as the form asks, and any other document the online form marks as mandatory

Send only one application for the same post. Duplicate forms may be cancelled. Changes after final submission are not normally allowed.

Two Cardiologist Rows and a Saraikela “SDH Rajmahal” Entry in the NHM Annexure-I

  • The NHM list has two Cardiologist rows at Sadar Hospital, Ranchi. Cardiology is not in the NHM list of accepted PG subjects. Check with JRHMS before you bid for those two rows.
  • NHM row 92 shows “SDH Rajmahal” under Saraikela district. The other Rajmahal rows sit under Sahibganj. Read the row number and district carefully when you pick a facility.
  • Both advertisements say to pay the application fee “wherever prescribed in the portal”. They do not print the amount, so check the portal.
  • The department may add or cut vacancies, change the facility list, or issue a corrigendum. It may also ask for document checks and a medical exam before joining.

Three Annexure-I Rows and a Quote Under Rs 3,00,000

  1. Open Annexure-I of the advertisement for your specialty and note the row, district and hospital of up to three facilities you would join.
  2. Decide a monthly amount for each that you can live with for the contract period, keeping it under the Rs 3,00,000 cap.
  3. Upload your documents and submit on recruitment.jharkhand.gov.in by 15 November 2026, then save the “Submitted Successfully” page.

For other openings, see our pages for Jharkhand government jobs, health department jobs and jobs for postgraduates. JRHMS is also filling 1,038 Community Health Officer posts. Specialists who prefer an ESIC hospital can look at the ESIC Gwalior senior resident and specialist posts.
