The Punjab court clerk recruitment 2026 fills 1,270 Clerk posts in the District Courts of Punjab. The notice is Detailed Employment Notice No. 37C/SSSC/PB/2026, dated 3 October 2026. It comes from the Society for Centralized Recruitment of Staff in Subordinate Courts (SSSC) of the High Court of Punjab and Haryana. The online form runs from 4:00 PM on 7 October 2026 to 4:00 PM on 4 November 2026. You need a BA or BSc degree (or an equivalent degree), Class 10 passed with Punjabi as a subject, and computer skills. The age limit is 18 to 37 years on 1 January 2026, with relaxations for Punjab residents of reserved categories. Serving government and court employees can be up to 45.

The court notice this page is built on: the 14-page English Detailed Employment Notice No. 37C/SSSC/PB/2026 dated 03/10/2026, signed by the Member Secretary of the SSSC, Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chandigarh. Page numbers in brackets below point to that notice. Applications go only through the SSSC website. On 29 October 2026 the SSSC website showed no corrigendum or date extension for 37C/SSSC/PB/2026.

Women’s columns count as separate posts in the Punjab court clerk recruitment 2026 total

The vacancy table on page 1 has four number columns. Two show posts as on 31 August 2026, and two show anticipated posts up to 28 February 2027. Each pair has a plain column and a column headed “Women”. The four columns add up to the printed 1,270 only when the Women figures are counted as posts of their own.

The notice prints no totals in this table; the row totals and the Total row are our sums, and they match the 1,270 in its opening paragraph. Where the notice prints a dash, we show 0. The disability short forms are spelt out on page 2. A disabled applicant can apply in the PwBD category only for the disability types listed in the table (page 9). The number of posts may go up or down without notice (Note 1, page 2).

For ex-servicemen seats, a wife or dependent child of a Punjab ex-serviceman is considered only if suitable ex-servicemen are not available (Note 06, page 2). Applicants who choose “Others” in the gender column need a certificate of identity from the District Magistrate under the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019 (Note 4).

Note 2 of 37C/SSSC/PB/2026: outside applicants apply as General

Note 2 on page 2 is the rule most outside applicants need. Age relaxation, fee concession and reservation are only for residents of Punjab. Reserved-category applicants from other states must apply as Unreserved (UR)/General. The one exception is the age relaxation for government employees under the service rules.

To claim a reserved seat, you must be a bona fide resident of Punjab with a certificate from the competent authority of the Punjab Government (page 8). The certificate must be valid on the closing date of the form. EWS applicants need an Income and Assets certificate valid for 2026-2027, based on family income for 2025-2026 and issued by the closing date. BC applicants may be asked for an undertaking that they are not in the creamy layer.

Every applicant also gives an undertaking in the form to work anywhere in Punjab (page 10). Category and sub-category details cannot be changed after you submit (page 9).

BA or BSc plus Class 10 Punjabi: the Punjab District Court Clerk qualification

Page 3 asks for three things:

  • A Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree, or an equivalent degree, from a recognised university.
  • Matriculation (Class 10) passed with Punjabi as one of the subjects.
  • Proficiency in operating computers. This is later tested in a qualifying computer test.

You must meet the qualification on the closing date of the online form, 4 November 2026. The notice has no separate rule for final-year students.

Page 3 also bars anyone who has married while having a living spouse, or who married a person with a living spouse. The High Court can exempt a person if the marriage is allowed under their personal law.

Category Upper age limit or relaxation (page 3)

The minimum age is 18 for every category. Serving government employees must get a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their Head of Office or Department and keep it ready. If they cannot show it when asked, their candidature is cancelled (page 4).

Rs 710, Rs 875 or Rs 1,200: what Punjab and outside applicants pay

Category Online facilitation charge Exam fee Total
SC, BC/OBC, ex-servicemen or EWS of Punjab Rs 550 Rs 160 Rs 710
PwBD of Punjab Rs 550 Rs 325 Rs 875
All other categories, including all applicants from other states (Note 2, page 2) Rs 550 Rs 650 Rs 1,200

The fee is paid online and is not refunded (page 4). The form counts as submitted only after the fee is paid (page 12). Payment can be made by internet banking, a debit or credit bank card, or UPI. Applicants who choose “Others” in the gender column pay as per their category.

A 100-mark computer test with typed English answers and a quarter-mark penalty

The written exam is a Computer Based Test (CBT) of 2 hours (page 5).

Part Type Marks
General Knowledge, 50 questions of 1 mark Objective 50
English Composition, 20 questions of 1 mark Objective 20
English Composition: essay of 150 words (10), letter (5), precis (5), translation from Punjabi to English (10) Subjective 30
Total 100

To qualify, you need 33% in each subject and 40% in total (page 5). Each wrong answer in the multiple choice questions costs 1/4 mark. A question left blank gets no marks and no penalty (page 6). You type the subjective English answers on the computer within the exam time. Your subjective English part is marked only if you score at least 33% in General Knowledge.

If the CBT runs in more than one shift, the objective marks are normalised by a standard deviation method (page 7). Subjective marks are used as they are. A demo test link goes up on the SSSC website 15 days before the exam. The exam can be held anywhere in Northern India, and the date will be announced on the SSSC website. Requests to change the centre, date or shift are not accepted (page 5).

Spreadsheet and 30 wpm typing: the qualifying Computer Proficiency Test

The High Court decides how many CBT qualifiers, category-wise, are called for the Computer Proficiency Test (CPT). The CPT is compulsory, but its marks do not count in the final merit (page 6). It has two parts:

  1. Part I, Spreadsheet Test: 10 marks in 10 minutes. You need 4 marks or more.
  2. Part II, Computer Typing Test in English at 30 words per minute (wpm). The notice works out speed as words typed minus mistakes, divided by 10. Part II is checked only for those who pass Part I.

Applicants whose locomotor disability affects both arms can ask for exemption from the CPT with their disability certificate. Other applicants with a benchmark disability need their disability certificate and a medical certificate that they cannot type at 30 wpm. That certificate must come from a Chief Medical Officer, Civil Surgeon or Medical Superintendent of a government hospital. Persons with other disabilities under section 2(s) of the disability law need the medical certificate. The request must be made within 15 days of the CBT result, and the Competent Authority decides it.

The High Court decides how many, category-wise, of those who clear both tests are called for checking of original documents and an interaction. The final select list is made only on CBT marks (page 7). If two people have the same marks, the older one ranks higher. If the date of birth is also the same, names go in alphabetical order.

Rs 29,200 at Level 5 for clerks recruited on or after 17 July 2020

Page 3 gives the pay for clerks appointed on or after 17 July 2020 as Rs 29,200 (Level 5, for graduates). It cites Punjab Government letter No. HOME-JD-10MISC/54/2023-2JUD1 I/926404/2024 dated 12 September 2024 on new pay scales for fresh recruits (pages 3 and 4). The notice does not list Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA) or an in-hand figure. We have not used a Punjab DA order here, so this page gives no in-hand estimate.
