The UPESSC Principal 2026 recruitment is Advertisement No. 08/2026 of the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC), dated 23 October 2026. It covers 1,475 Principal (Pradhanacharya) posts in government-aided intermediate colleges of UP: 1,318 in boys’ colleges and 157 in girls’ colleges. All posts are unreserved. Online registration began on 23 October 2026, and the fee must be paid by 22 November 2026. The last date for corrections is 25 November 2026 in the advertisement but 26 November 2026 in UPESSC’s own press note, so treat 25 November as the safe date. Category, date of birth and gender cannot be changed after the final submit. The written exam is set for 7 January 2027. To apply, you need a postgraduate degree with 50% marks, a B.Ed (Bachelor of Education) and at least four years of teaching or headmaster experience.

Notice behind this page: the Hindi UPESSC Advertisement No. 08/2026 for the post of Pradhanacharya. Its first 14 printed pages, after a cover, hold the rules and forms, and pages 15 to 62 list every college with a vacancy. Page numbers below are the printed ones. The notice is listed on the UPESSC advertisements page. On 5 November 2026, that page still showed Advertisement 08/2026 dated 23 October 2026 with no corrigendum, and the advertisement file was unchanged. The commission’s press note of 23 October 2026 lists the same dates, except for the correction date.

Postgraduate 50%, an NCTE B.Ed and four years of Class 9 to 12 teaching or headship

You need all three of these by the last date for accepting forms (pages 3 and 5):

  1. A postgraduate degree with at least 50% marks from a university, deemed university or institution set up by law in India or recognised by the government.
  2. A B.Ed from a course recognised by the NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education).
  3. At least four years of teaching as a Lecturer or Assistant Teacher in Classes 9 to 12. The institution must be recognised by the Central or State government. In place of this, four years as Headmaster of a High School also counts.

The experience must be certified at the “competent level”. The notice explains this as a certificate issued by the district officer and countersigned by the divisional officer. For Kendriya Vidyalayas, the regional officer is the competent level (page 5).

The Appendix-2 experience certificate for Advt 08/2026

Your experience proof has a set format, given as Appendix-2 on page 13. It records your school, its recognition level and whether it is aided or unaided. It also records your first appointment order, joining date and pay scale. Last, it lists the years you spent as TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher), PGT (Post Graduate Teacher) or High School Headmaster.

  • It is signed by the Principal, the Manager and the Finance and Accounts Officer of the school.
  • It is then signed by the District Inspector of Schools, or the Commissioner of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, with a letter number and date.
  • It is countersigned by the Joint Director of Education, the competent divisional officer or the regional officer, again with a letter number and date.

You must bring this certificate, in original with a self-attested copy, to the interview. Start getting it signed early, since it needs three levels of signatures.

A minimum age of 30, Level 12 pay, and the same Rs 2,000 fee for SC, ST and PwD

The minimum age is 30 on 1 July 2026. The retirement age for the post is 62. The form is not accepted if you are over 62 on 1 July 2026 (pages 2 and 5). Your date of birth is taken only from your High School or equal certificate (page 3).

The pay scale is Level 12, Rs 78,800 to Rs 2,09,200 (page 5). The notice gives no allowance figures, and we have not estimated take-home pay.

The fee is Rs 2,000 for every category, including SC, ST and candidates with disabilities (page 4). Pay it online by bank card or net banking. A fee paid on a wrong form is not refunded or moved to another form (page 3).

1,475 aided-college posts, including older requisitions under a High Court order

College type Posts
Boys’ intermediate colleges 1,318
Girls’ intermediate colleges 157
Total 1,475

Some of these posts are old. The notice says it follows a High Court order of 15 April 2026 in Special Appeal 376/2026 (Rajkumar Singh and others versus State of UP). So the boys’ total includes 530 posts requested in 2019-20 and 114 from 2021-22. The girls’ total includes 69 from 2019-20 and 8 from 2021-22 (page 4). The number of posts may go up or down.

Pages 15 to 62 list each college by division, district and requisition year (the year the college asked for the post). They also show whether the college gets aid at both High School and Intermediate level, and whether it runs an attached primary section. Check this list if you want to know which colleges in your district have a vacancy. The notice says colleges are allotted to selected candidates by the Director of Secondary Education, UP (page 8).

157 girls’ college seats, and how women choose a group

The rules on page 8 decide which seats you compete for:

  • A man is not eligible for the post of Principal in a girls’ institution.
  • A woman can apply for both boys’ and girls’ colleges, but must choose one group, boys or girls, in the form.
  • If you submit more than one form, only the last one counts.

Since all posts are unreserved, there are no SC, ST, OBC or EWS seats in this advertisement (page 4). Candidates with disabilities in the listed sub-categories can apply, and can be appointed against an unreserved post that is identified for their disability (pages 4 and 5).

UPESSC Principal 2026 merit list: 400 marks, 360 written and 40 interview

The merit list is made on 400 marks (pages 5 and 6):

Stage What it involves Marks
Written exam 120 multiple-choice questions in 2 hours; 3 marks for a right answer, 1 mark off for a wrong or double answer 360
Interview For candidates shortlisted on written marks (page 8) 40
Total 400

The paper is in Hindi and English (except language subjects), and the syllabus is on the UPESSC website. If two candidates tie, UPESSC looks first at written marks, then interview marks, then the postgraduate percentage, then B.Ed marks. If all of these match, the older candidate ranks higher.

Exams are held at district headquarters (page 5). UPESSC will share your exam district 10 days before the exam, and your centre and admit card 3 days before. The interview date comes at least 10 days in advance by SMS, e-mail, newspaper and the website (page 8). Candidates with disabilities can bring their own scribe (a writer who marks answers for them) and get 20 extra minutes per hour. They must register at the UPESSC office a week before the exam (page 7).

Originals, two attested sets and an employer NOC at the Advt 08/2026 interview

Bring originals and two self-attested sets (page 9):

  • Two copies of the online form.
  • High School, Intermediate, graduation (all three years), postgraduate (both years) and B.Ed marksheets and degrees.
  • The Appendix-2 experience certificate, in original with a copy.
  • A no objection certificate (NOC) from your employer, in original with a copy.
  • A disability certificate, if it applies (Appendix-1).
  • An affidavit in the Appendix-3 format and an affidavit about any court case.
  • A character certificate from your last educational institution, and character certificates from two respectable persons.

The interview date cannot be changed on request, and no travel allowance is paid.

OTR, group choice and 10 KB to 100 KB uploads on apply.upessc.org

  1. Complete your One Time Registration (OTR) on the UPESSC application portal. Fill in the form in English.
  2. If you are a woman, choose the boys’ or girls’ group.
  3. Upload a photo and signature as JPG or JPEG files of 10 KB to 100 KB each. Certificates go as PDF files of 20 KB to 200 KB.
  4. Pay the Rs 2,000 fee by 22 November 2026 and keep the receipt.
  5. Print three copies of the submitted form. Two go with your documents at the interview.

The notice says that after the final submit, your category, sub-category, date of birth, gender and similar details cannot change (para 2.4, page 2). The same paragraph calls the filled details final. Yet the dates table gives 25 November 2026 as the last date for corrections. Para 2.12 (page 3) also allows corrections until the date the Commission sets. Check every detail before you submit.

The correction date itself is also given twice. The dates table of the advertisement (page 2) says 25 November 2026. UPESSC’s one-page press note (letter 3108/39(2026) of 23 October 2026), which is linked from the same listing, says 26 November 2026. The fee date of 22 November 2026, the start date and the exam date match in both. Do your corrections by 25 November. For a firm answer, call the UPESSC helpdesk on 08448573939 (page 8), write to Support@upessc.org, or call the Commission on 0532-2466851.
