17 subjects, one base rule: degree, B.Ed and Class 6 to 8 TET, with changes
Almost every subject has the same three-part rule (pages 6 to 8):
- A graduate degree with that subject and at least 50% marks, or a postgraduate degree in it with at least 45% marks.
- A B.Ed from a course recognised by the NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education).
- A pass in a Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for the upper primary level, Classes 6 to 8, held by the UP government or the Government of India.
Some subjects add their own conditions:
- English: the degree must be with English Literature.
- Hindi: you must also have passed Sanskrit as a subject in Intermediate, or the Uttar Madhyama exam of the UP Sanskrit Shiksha Parishad.
- Science: graduation with Physics and Chemistry. Biology: graduation with Zoology and Botany.
- Social Science: graduation with any two of History, Geography, Political Science and Economics. A postgraduate degree must be in one of those two subjects.
- Physical Education: any degree with 50% (or a postgraduate degree with 45%), plus B.P.Ed or B.P.E. (physical education degrees) in place of the B.Ed.
- Music: Sangeet Visharad (Bhatkhande) or Sangeet Prabhakar (Prayag Sangeet Samiti) is also accepted with a degree, but it earns no merit points.
- Art: a degree in Fine Arts is also accepted.
- Sewing: a degree in Fashion Designing. Agriculture: a degree in Agriculture or Horticulture. Ranjan Kala: a degree plus a diploma in fine or commercial art that includes Ranjan Kala, from an art school recognised by the Government of India.
Two different cut-off dates for the Advt 07/2026 qualifications
The notice gives two rules on when you must hold your qualifications. Paragraph 2.9 (page 3) says you must hold the essential qualifications by the last date for accepting applications. A note after the qualification table (page 8) says you must have a valid certificate of passing the prescribed educational eligibility exam for the post by 30 June 2027. The notice does not explain how the two fit together. UPESSC lists 0532-2466851 (10 AM to 5 PM, Monday to Saturday) for qualification-related queries (page 12). But para 2.5 (page 2) says the Commission does not advise candidates one by one on eligibility.
The same note adds that a place in the selection list does not by itself give a right to a job. The appointment letter depends on the other conditions and on document verification.
Age 21 minimum, with retirement age 62 as the only upper limit
The minimum age is 21 on 1 July 2026. The notice sets no separate upper age limit. Instead, it says the retirement age for the post is 62, and a form is not accepted if you are over 62 on 1 July 2026 (pages 2 and 5). Your date of birth is taken only from your High School or equal certificate (page 3).
Starting basic pay of Rs 44,900, and a fee of Rs 300 to Rs 1,000
| Category | Fee |
|---|---|
| General, Unreserved, OBC, EWS and others | Rs 1,000 |
| SC and ST | Rs 500 |
| Persons with disabilities | Rs 300 |
Pay the fee online by bank card or net banking (page 3). The fee for a wrong application is not refunded or moved to another form.
The pay scale is Level 7, Rs 44,900 to Rs 1,42,400 (page 5). So the scale starts at Rs 44,900 a month. The notice gives no allowance figures, and we have not estimated take-home pay.
UPESSC TGT rule: women pick a boys’ or girls’ group, men get boys’ schools only
These rules on page 11 change how many seats you can compete for:
- A man is not eligible for a teacher post in a girls’ institution. The only exception is a blind candidate for music.
- A woman can apply for both boys’ and girls’ schools, but must choose one group, boys or girls, in the form. For one subject, only one group is allowed.
- Only one form per subject and group counts. If you submit more than one, the last one is accepted and the rest are cancelled.
So a male Hindi candidate can be selected only against the 2,539 boys’ school Hindi posts. A woman who picks the girls’ group for Hindi can be selected only against the 252 girls’ school posts. Both totals are split by category and may change (page 4).
120 questions in 2 hours: 30 on general knowledge, 90 on your subject
The merit list comes from one written exam (pages 8 and 9):
- 120 multiple-choice questions: 30 on general knowledge and 90 on your subject.
- Each right answer gives 3 marks, so the paper has 360 marks. A wrong answer, or more than one answer, takes away 1 mark.
- The paper lasts 2 hours. It is in Hindi and English, except for language subjects.
- If two candidates tie, the one with a higher graduation percentage ranks higher. Next comes the percentage in the training qualification, such as the B.Ed. If that is also equal, the older candidate ranks higher.
The syllabus is on the UPESSC website. Exams are held at district headquarters. UPESSC will share your exam district 10 days before the exam, and your centre and admit card 3 days before. If you write the exam at a centre or in a subject other than the one on your admit card, your answer sheet is not checked. Candidates with disabilities can use a scribe (a writer who marks answers for them) they bring themselves, with 20 extra minutes per hour. They must register this at the UPESSC office a week before the exam (pages 8 to 10).
Outside UP? Advt 07/2026 gives no category benefit or EWS seat
Reserved-category candidates who are not original residents of UP get no category benefit and are treated as General (page 10). Candidates from outside UP also cannot get EWS reservation (page 5). For women, a caste certificate counts only if it comes from the father’s side. A certificate that shows a woman as the wife of a UP SC, ST or OBC person is not valid. The EWS certificate must be for the year before the year you apply.

Yet the dates table gives 26 November 2026 as the last date for corrections, and para 2.12 (page 3) allows corrections until the date the Commission sets. Check every detail before you submit.
