With a degree, a D.El.Ed (BTC) and a TET pass, you can apply for UPESSC Assistant Teacher 2026 in Uttar Pradesh. There are 12,405 posts. 11,508 are in urban primary schools of the UP Basic Shiksha Parishad, the state’s basic education board. The other 897 are primary posts attached to government-aided secondary schools. The application portal closes at 11:59 PM on 15 October 2026, and the written exam is on 3 and 4 December 2026. A B.Ed does not count as the teacher training course for these posts.
Qualification: degree, D.El.Ed and TET, but no B.Ed
Urban posts need all three of these:
- A degree from a recognised university.
- A teacher training course. BTC (now run as D.El.Ed), two-year BTC (Urdu) and special BTC count. So do a four-year B.El.Ed and a two-year special education diploma approved by the Rehabilitation Council of India. A two-year elementary education diploma under the rules of the NCTE (the national teacher training council) also counts.
- A pass in a TET held by the UP government or the Government of India, so CTET also counts. The advertisement does not name a TET level for the urban post. But the application form asks for your TET marks for Classes 1 to 5. If you passed only the Classes 6 to 8 paper, ask UPESSC before you pay.
Aided (attached primary) posts need a degree and BTC or D.El.Ed from an NCTE-recognised course. You also need a pass in the TET for Classes 1 to 5, held by the UP government or the Government of India.
B.Ed is not listed for either post, even though some websites include it. If you have only a B.Ed, look at other teaching jobs instead. Every qualification, including the TET, must be in hand by the last date. If your result is still awaited, you are not eligible.
Does your UPTET 2026 certificate have a mistake in your name, father’s or husband’s name, date of birth or category? You can correct it once at certificates.upessc.org for Rs 200, under a UPESSC notice of 25 September 2026. This portal is only for UPTET 2026 certificates. Your date of birth must match your High School certificate, so fix any mismatch now.
Age for UPESSC Assistant Teacher: 21 to 40, or 21 to 62
Age is counted on 1 July 2026, and everyone must be at least 21.
- Urban posts: maximum 40. Candidates from UP’s SC, ST and OBC get 5 more years, and UP candidates with disabilities get 15 more. Ex-servicemen get their army service plus 3 years.
- Shiksha Mitras (contract teachers in UP’s basic schools) can apply for the urban posts up to age 60. The advertisement gives them no exemption from the degree, training or TET rules.
- Aided posts: the advertisement gives only the minimum of 21 and a retirement age of 62, and prints no relaxations. The application portal takes candidates up to 62 for these posts.
If you fall in more than one reserved group, you get only one relaxation, the one that helps you most. UP OBC plus disability does not mean 5 plus 15 years. Your date of birth is taken only from your High School (or equivalent) certificate.
UPESSC Assistant Teacher 2026 posts by district and school type
| Post | Posts | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Assistant Teacher, Urban | 11,508 | Primary schools of UP Basic Shiksha Parishad in urban areas, all 75 districts |
| Assistant Teacher, attached primary (boys’ schools) | 473 | Aided secondary schools |
| Assistant Teacher, attached primary (girls’ schools) | 424 | Aided secondary schools |
Both posts are at Pay Level 6, from Rs 35,400 to Rs 1,12,400. The advertisement gives no allowance or in-hand figure. We could not find the state’s current DA order on an official UP site, so we have not worked one out.
By category, the 11,508 urban posts are General (unreserved) 4,746, EWS 1,116, OBC 3,069, SC 2,379 and ST 198. Inside these, 540 are for ex-servicemen, 429 for candidates with disabilities and 198 for dependants of freedom fighters. The 897 aided posts are General 378, SC 348, OBC 164 and EWS 7, with no ST posts.
The urban posts are spread very unevenly. Bareilly has 888, Kanpur Nagar 758, Meerut 635, Aligarh 492, Saharanpur 448 and Lucknow 444. Shravasti has 2, Chitrakoot 3 and Gautam Buddh Nagar 6. The form has no district choice, and the Basic Shiksha Parishad allots schools after selection. The numbers can also go up or down.
UPESSC fee of Rs 1,000, UP domicile and reservation rules
| Who | Fee |
|---|---|
| General, OBC, EWS, and all candidates from outside UP | Rs 1,000 |
| SC and ST of UP | Rs 500 |
| Candidates with disabilities from UP | Rs 300 |
Any Indian citizen can apply. But reservation, age relaxation and the lower fee are only for original residents of UP. A reserved-category candidate from another state is treated as General. More Uttar Pradesh government jobs are on our state page. Pay online by card or net banking. A fee paid with a wrong application is not refunded.
- Women must use a caste certificate issued on their father’s side. A certificate based on the husband’s caste is not valid.
- An EWS certificate must be for the year before the application year, in the UP format.
- Ex-servicemen count only if they have already retired by the last date.
UPESSC exam: three marks for a right answer, one off for a wrong one
Selection is from the merit list of one written exam, followed by document verification. The advertisement lists no interview. You mark answers on an OMR sheet by filling in bubbles with a pen. The paper comes in Hindi and English, and you get 2 hours for 120 questions. A right answer gives 3 marks and a wrong answer costs 1, so the paper is out of 360.
The syllabus published on the UPESSC website for this exam splits the 120 questions like this:
| Topic | Questions |
|---|---|
| Hindi, Sanskrit and English | 30 |
| General knowledge and current affairs | 25 |
| Maths | 16 |
| Science; environment and social studies; teaching skills; child psychology; life skills and attitude | 8 each |
| Reasoning | 5 |
| Information technology | 4 |
The subject questions are up to Class 12 level, and the teaching questions follow the D.El.Ed course. If two candidates have the same marks, the one with the higher graduation percentage ranks first, then the higher training percentage, then the older candidate. If the exam runs in more than one shift, marks are adjusted across shifts.
Use only a black ballpoint pen on the OMR sheet. Gel pens, pencils and whitener are not allowed, and a sheet with erasing or damage is rejected. You learn your exam district 10 days before the exam and your centre and admit card 3 days before. Writing the exam at any other centre cancels your candidature.
If you have a disability and need a writer (scribe), you must bring your own. Register the writer at the UPESSC office at least one week before the exam. You get 20 extra minutes for every hour.
Before 15 October: OTR, uploads and the final submit
- Do your One Time Registration (OTR) on apply.upessc.org. The form must be filled in English.
- Upload a passport photo of 30 to 300 KB and a signature of 10 to 200 KB (140 x 110 pixels, white background). Documents go in as PDFs of 50 to 500 KB. Our photo resizer can help with the sizes. A photo of the wrong size, an unclear signature or a declaration you did not accept gets the form cancelled.
- Rank the posts you want and pay the fee.
- Finish the form before 11:59 PM on 15 October. Paying the fee alone is not enough: a form left incomplete is not accepted.
- Print three copies of the final form. You hand in two of them at document verification.
Ranking the three posts: girls’ schools take only women
The advertisement does not say this, but the UPESSC application form does. The 424 posts in aided girls’ schools are open only to women. Men can apply for the urban posts and the aided boys’ school posts. In the form you rank the posts you want as 1st, 2nd and 3rd preference, and you must pick at least one. The advertisement says this preference cannot be changed after the last date, so think it through before you submit.
The last date for corrections is 19 October 2026. But your category, sub-category, date of birth and gender cannot be changed once you submit. One line of the advertisement even says nothing at all can be changed, so get it right the first time. If you submit more than one form, only the last one counts. If you already have a job, you will need a no-objection certificate from your employer.
If the portal shows an error, call UPESSC’s technical helpline on 08448573939 (9:30 AM to 6 PM, Monday to Saturday). You can also email Support@upessc.org. The UPESSC office number is 0532-2466851.
