UPSSSC JE Electrical 2026 Recruitment: 380 Posts, 231 of Them in PWD (Advt 25)
On this page
Public Works Department (PWD) Junior Engineer seats make up 231 of the 380 posts in the UPSSSC JE Electrical 2026 main exam, Advertisement No. 25-Exam/2026 of the Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission. The online form runs from 6 November to 27 November 2026, and the Rs 25 fee must also be paid by 27 November. Bank matching of a fee already paid, and the allowed corrections, close on 4 December 2026. Only those who took PET-2025 (Preliminary Eligibility Test 2025) and got its score card may apply. For most posts you need High School and a three-year diploma in electrical engineering.
322 Junior Engineer seats in 11 bodies, plus 56 roadways Electricians
Table 1 (pages 7 to 9) spreads the 380 posts over 16 rows. Junior Engineer (Electrical) accounts for 322 of them. The rest are 56 Electrician posts in the state roadways, one Technical Assistant and one Research Assistant.
| Department | Post | Posts |
|---|---|---|
| Public Works Department (PWD), Chief Engineer’s office | Junior Engineer (Electrical) | 231 |
| UP State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC), Lucknow | Vidyutkar (Electrician) | 56 |
| UP Rajkiya Nirman Nigam Ltd | Junior Engineer (Electrical), general 44 and special selection 2 | 46 |
| Electrical Safety Directorate | Junior Engineer (Electrical), general 14 and special selection 20 | 34 |
| UP State Construction and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd | Junior Engineer (Electrical) | 4 |
| Seven state universities (Gorakhpur, Lucknow, Prayagraj, Moradabad, Balrampur, Mirzapur, Saharanpur) | Junior Engineer (Electrical), 1 each | 7 |
| Ground Water Department | Technical Assistant (Electrical), special selection | 1 |
| Research, Development and Training Institute, Kanpur | Shodh Sahayak (Research Assistant) | 1 |
| Total | 380 | |
By category, the 380 posts split into 177 Unreserved, 78 SC, 7 ST, 85 OBC and 33 EWS (Economically Weaker Sections). “Special selection” rows carry only reserved posts (SC, ST or OBC). The notice warns that the total and the category numbers may still go up or down.
The 56 UPSRTC Electrician posts need an electrical supervisory licence too
The 56 UPSRTC Vidyutkar posts carry one extra rule. Page 16 asks for a diploma in electrical “with an electrical supervisory licence”. On that wording, a diploma without the licence does not meet the rule. These posts are temporary, and the row is printed at Level 5.
Level 6 for engineers, Level 5 for the roadways Electrician, and the old pay bands in Table 1
The pay matrix is the table that fixes government basic pay, and each pay level in it has its own range. Level 6 runs from Rs 35,400 to Rs 1,12,400 a month in basic pay. Several rows print exactly this range.
Nine rows, the PWD row among them, print “Level 6” next to the pre-2016 pay band of Rs 9,300 to 34,800. Six of these also show a grade pay of Rs 4,200, and two show the Rs 35,400 to 1,12,400 range as well. The UPSRTC Electrician row prints “Level 5” with Rs 5,200 and Rs 20,200 as its minimum and maximum. We show these figures as the notice prints them and do not convert them. The notice gives no allowance rates, so we do not estimate in-hand pay.
Advt 25 does not explain why these rows pair a pay level with the older band figures. Paragraph 11.27 (page 31) says that where the notice has an error or contradiction, the service rules, the reservation law and the government orders prevail. If pay decides which posts you tick, ask UPSSSC about these rows before you apply. The contact details are in the age section below.
High School plus a three-year diploma for most Advt 25 departments
Section 6 (pages 14 to 18) gives the rule for each department. You must hold it by 27 November 2026 (paragraph 2.2).
- PWD and the seven universities: High School from the UP Board or an equivalent exam. You also need a three-year electrical engineering diploma from the state’s Board of Technical Education (Prāvidhik Shiksha Parishad), or an equivalent. Annexure-2 lists the diploma branches the PWD accepts as equivalent.
- Electrical Safety Directorate: a diploma in electrical engineering from a recognised university or institution. You must also be able to read and write Hindi in the Devanagari script with ease.
- UP Rajkiya Nirman Nigam: a diploma in engineering (electrical).
- UP State Construction and Infrastructure Development Corporation: a three-year diploma in electrical engineering or an equivalent.
- Technical Assistant, Ground Water Department: a three-year electrical diploma from the same Board, or an equivalent (Annexure-1).
- Research Assistant, Kanpur: a diploma in electrical engineering and two years of teaching experience.
Eleven of the fourteen department rules add a preference, when all else is equal. It goes to candidates with two years’ service in the Territorial Army (the Army’s part-time volunteer reserve) or a National Cadet Corps (NCC) “B” certificate. UPSRTC, UP Rajkiya Nirman Nigam and the Construction and Infrastructure Development Corporation print no such preference.
Lower age 18 or 21, upper age 40, counted by each department’s own rule
The upper age limit is 40 for every post. The lower limit is 21 for the Technical Assistant, the Research Assistant and the UP State Construction and Infrastructure Development Corporation post. It is 18 for the rest.
Instead of one cut-off date, section 7 quotes each service rule:
- Most posts: age is counted on 1 July of the calendar year in which the vacancies are advertised.
- Electrical Safety Directorate: on 1 July if the post is advertised between January and June. If it is advertised between July and December, age is counted on 1 January of the next year.
- UPSRTC Electrician: on 1 January of the year of recruitment for posts advertised from January to June, and on 1 July for posts advertised from July to December.
Advt 25 is dated 12 October 2026, but section 7 (pages 18 to 21) never turns these rules into calendar dates. Our reading, which the notice does not print, is this. For most posts the date is 1 July 2026. For the Electrical Safety Directorate posts it is 1 January 2027, because October falls in the July to December half. For the UPSRTC Electrician it is 1 July 2026, if the “year of recruitment” is 2026. That rule does not say which year counts, and a different reading would move the date by a whole year. If you tick posts from different departments, your age may be checked on a different date for each.
Paragraph 11.23 (page 31) says the Commission does not advise candidates on eligibility. Even so, if you are within a year of 18, 21 or 40 on these dates, confirm the date with UPSSSC before you apply. Paragraph 11.24 (page 31) asks candidates with a problem to use upsssc.gov.in or contact the Commission’s office on any working day. Page 1 gives the office as PICUP Bhawan, third floor, Vibhuti Khand, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow 226010, and the e-mail as online.upsssc@nic.in. The notice prints no phone number. The Contact Us box on upsssc.gov.in lists 0522-2720814.
Relaxations include these. Most rules give SC, ST and other notified categories extra years. For the Electrical Safety Directorate, the notice names SC, ST and dependants of freedom fighters, with 5 more years. Employees of UP government services get 5 more years (paragraph 11.10). Candidates already working in UPSRTC, and regular employees of UP Rajkiya Nirman Nigam, get 5 more years. Paragraph 11.11 adds a relaxation for Chief Minister Fellowship researchers.
About 5,700 main exam calls for 380 posts, ranked by PET-2025 marks
Section 10 explains the shortlist. UPSSSC ranks applicants by their PET-2025 normalised score, which is the PET mark adjusted so that different shifts compare fairly. It calls 15 times the number of posts in each category. For 380 posts, that comes to about 5,700 candidates by our arithmetic, if the post count does not change. Ties at the last score count, down to two decimals.
Page 1 shuts out anyone whose PET-2025 score, absolute or normalised, is zero or below. If PET-2025 marked your result as under investigation or provisional, you may still apply. UPSSSC decides later whether you stay on the list.
71 women’s seats, Table 2 quotas and applicants from outside UP
Table 2 (pages 10 to 12) sets aside 71 posts for women and 16 for ex-servicemen. It also reserves 12 for disabled candidates, 5 for dependants of freedom fighters and 5 for outstanding sportspersons. Of the women’s posts, 46 are in the PWD and 11 in UPSRTC. In the PWD, the only disability seats are 9 for acid attack victims.
Paragraph 11.03 says candidates who are not original residents of Uttar Pradesh get no reservation benefit. They are treated as Unreserved. UP women claiming a reserved category need a caste certificate in their father’s line (paragraph 11.06). For EWS, get a certificate dated 1 April to 27 November 2026, on 2025-26 income (paragraph 2.4).
Zero application fee on page 5, only a Rs 25 online processing charge
The fee table on page 5 lists Unreserved, OBC, SC and ST. Each pays an application fee of zero and an online processing charge of Rs 25. EWS has no row of its own in that table. Dependants of freedom fighters, ex-servicemen, women, disabled candidates and sportspersons pay by their original category.
A main exam fee follows for those on the shortlist. You pay it only if you are shortlisted, and before the admit card download. The notice gives no amount for it.
Page 4 accepts payment by card, net banking, UPI or SBI e-challan. If the form does not show after you pay, the same page points to the “Update Your Transaction ID by Double Verification” option in the Applicant Segment.
Thirteen electrical topics at 5 marks each, then IT and UP general knowledge
Section 8 says selection will be based on the written exam. It is one paper of 100 multiple-choice questions in 2 hours. Each question carries 1 mark, and a wrong answer costs a quarter mark.
| Part | Subjects | Questions and marks |
|---|---|---|
| Part 1 | 13 electrical topics, 5 questions each, from basic electrical engineering to power systems, switchgear and basic electronics | 65 |
| Part 2 | Computer and IT concepts, new technology such as AI and the Internet of Things | 15 |
| Part 3 | General knowledge about Uttar Pradesh | 20 |
Part 1 gives the same 5 marks to every topic. Estimation and costing, installation and earthing under the Indian Electricity (IE) Rules, and the utilisation of electrical energy each count as much as AC machines. UPSSSC will announce the exam date later.
Choosing and ranking your posts in the Advt 25 form
- Open upsssc.gov.in and find Advt 25-Exam/2026 under Live Advertisement Segment.
- Sign in with your PET-2025 registration number. A one-time password (OTP) goes to the phone or e-mail you gave then.

- Tick each post you want. Posts you leave unticked are not considered.
- Enter your diploma details and answer the Yes/No question on preference qualifications.
- Mark your order of preference among the posts you selected (paragraph 2.10).
- Pay the Rs 25 charge by 27 November 2026, then print the form once UPSSSC has matched your payment with the bank.
After submission, only four things can change: your correspondence address, EWS and special-quota details (women, ex-servicemen, disability, sports, freedom fighters), qualification details and marital status. Disabled candidates must mark their disability category and sub-category. Every change must be made by 4 December 2026. Paragraph 11.26 keeps only your latest form.
