UPSSSC JE Mechanical 2026 Notification: 1,156 Posts Under Advt 24-Exam/2026
On this page
Diploma holders in mechanical engineering can apply for UPSSSC JE Mechanical 2026 (Advt No. 24-Exam/2026, published 12 October 2026) from 3 to 25 November 2026. The advertisement lists 1,156 posts in eight rows, filled through one main exam. 25 November 2026 is the last date for registration, fee and submission. Fee reconciliation and form corrections are allowed until 2 December 2026. Only candidates who sat the Preliminary Eligibility Test 2025 (PET-2025) and hold its score card can apply. Most posts need a diploma in mechanical engineering. Some, such as PWD Junior Engineer, ask for a three-year diploma, and the UPSRTC posts accept automobile diplomas. Not all 1,156 are Junior Engineer posts, as the table below shows.
UPSSSC JE Mechanical 2026 also fills 270 roadways Mechanic and 128 storekeeper posts
Three of the eight rows in Table 1 (pages 7 and 8) are Junior Engineer (Mechanical) posts. The Irrigation and Water Resources Directorate has 304 and 154, and the Public Works Department (PWD) has 264. That makes 722. The other 434 seats are posts with a similar qualification, such as Mechanic and Assistant Storekeeper in the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC).
The pay column shows each post’s Level on the pay matrix. A higher Level means a higher starting basic pay.
| Department and post | Posts | Pay as printed in the notice |
|---|---|---|
| Irrigation and Water Resources: Junior Engineer (Mechanical) | 304 | Level 6, Rs 35,400 to Rs 1,12,400 |
| Irrigation and Water Resources: Junior Engineer (Mechanical), special selection | 154 | Level 6, Rs 35,400 to Rs 1,12,400 |
| PWD (Office of the Chief Engineer): Junior Engineer (Mechanical) | 264 | Level 6; also printed as Rs 9,300 to Rs 34,800, grade pay Rs 4,200 |
| UPSRTC Lucknow: Mechanic | 270 | Level 5; range printed as Rs 5,200 to Rs 20,200 |
| UPSRTC Lucknow: Assistant Storekeeper (Sahayak Bhandarpal) | 128 | Level 4; range printed as Rs 5,200 to Rs 20,200 |
| Panchayati Raj Directorate: Assistant District Panchayat Raj Officer (Technical) | 32 | Level 6, Rs 35,400 to Rs 1,12,400 |
| Ground Water Department: Technical Assistant (Mechanical), special selection | 3 | Level 6, Rs 35,400 to Rs 1,12,400 |
| Prisons Administration and Reform Services HQ: Instructor Machine (Anudeshak Machine) | 1 | Level 6, Rs 35,400 to Rs 1,12,400 |
| Total | 1,156 |
“Special selection” (vishesh chayan) rows carry seats only for reserved groups. The 154 Irrigation seats are 113 SC and 41 OBC, and the 3 Ground Water seats are 2 SC and 1 OBC. Unreserved and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) candidates cannot get these seats. Across all eight rows, the category split is Unreserved 439, SC 319, ST 15, OBC 285 and EWS 98. The UPSRTC posts are marked temporary (asthayi). The Irrigation and PWD posts are marked permanent and temporary. The notice says post numbers may change (page 7).
Three pay entries need care. On page 7, the notice prints the same range, Rs 5,200 to Rs 20,200, next to both Level 4 (Assistant Storekeeper) and Level 5 (Mechanic). On page 8, the PWD Junior Engineer row says Level 6 but prints Rs 9,300 to Rs 34,800 with grade pay Rs 4,200. The other Level 6 rows on pages 7 and 8 print Rs 35,400 to Rs 1,12,400. These look like older pay scale figures, and the notice does not explain them. It does say that where it has an error or contradiction, the relevant service rules, reservation law and government orders prevail (page 24). If pay matters to your choice of post, confirm these rows with UPSSSC before you apply. The notice gives no allowance or take-home figures, so in-hand pay cannot be worked out from Advt 24.
Advt 24 prints no phone helpline. For problems, it asks candidates to use upsssc.gov.in or contact the Commission’s office on any working day (page 24). Page 1 gives the office address as PICUP Bhawan, third floor, Vibhuti Khand, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow 226010, and the e-mail as online.upsssc@nic.in.
Mechanical diplomas, with automobile branches for the UPSRTC posts
The qualification differs from post to post (pages 12 and 13). You must hold it by 25 November 2026.
- Irrigation Junior Engineer (both rows): any one of three. The first is a mechanical engineering diploma from an institution or a university set up by law. The second is a mechanical engineering diploma from the Board of Technical Education (BTE), Uttar Pradesh. The third is the National Certificate in mechanical engineering from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
- PWD Junior Engineer: High School (Class 10) and a three-year diploma in mechanical engineering from BTE Uttar Pradesh or an equivalent the government recognises.
- UPSRTC Mechanic: a three-year diploma in automobile engineering or mechanical engineering (automobile) from a recognised polytechnic.
- UPSRTC Assistant Storekeeper: a diploma in automobile or mechanical engineering from a recognised polytechnic.
- Assistant District Panchayat Raj Officer (Technical): a diploma in mechanical engineering from a recognised institution.
- Technical Assistant (Mechanical): a three-year diploma in mechanical engineering from BTE Uttar Pradesh, or an equivalent the government declares.
- Instructor Machine: Intermediate (Class 12) and a three-year diploma in the mechanical maintenance trade from a government institution or a recognised one.
Page 26 (Ground Water) and pages 31 and 32 (PWD) list mechanical diploma branches accepted as equivalent, based on AICTE handbooks. They include automobile, production, tool and die, and mechatronics branches. The notice links these lists only to the Technical Assistant and PWD Junior Engineer posts (pages 12 and 13). It gives no such list for the other posts. If your diploma has an unusual name, look for it in that list before you pick those two posts.
Some posts settle a tie between otherwise equal candidates. For the Junior Engineer, Technical Assistant, Instructor and Panchayat Raj posts, two years of Territorial Army service or an NCC ‘B’ certificate wins. For UPSRTC Mechanic, a heavy vehicle driving licence decides such a tie.
PET-2025 normalised score and the 15-times shortlist
This is a main exam for PET-2025 candidates only. You log in with your PET-2025 registration number and an OTP (one-time password) sent to the mobile or e-mail you used then (page 2). Your personal details are shown from your PET-2025 record. The photo and signature uploaded for PET-2025 cannot be changed (page 3).
UPSSSC will call 15 times as many candidates as there are posts, category by category, based on PET-2025 normalised scores (page 21). Everyone at the cut-off score, to two decimal places, is included. A zero or negative PET-2025 score means you will not be shortlisted (page 1). Candidates whose PET-2025 result is marked “Under Investigation” or provisional may apply, but their shortlisting depends on the Commission’s decision.
Minimum age 21 for two Advt 24 posts, 18 for the rest
| Post | Age limit | Age counted on |
|---|---|---|
| Technical Assistant (Mechanical) | 21 to 40 | 1 July 2026 |
| Assistant District Panchayat Raj Officer (Technical) | 21 to 40 | 1 July of the “year of recruitment” (2026 by our reading, see below) |
| Junior Engineer (Irrigation and PWD); Instructor Machine | 18 to 40 | 1 July 2026 |
| UPSRTC Mechanic and Assistant Storekeeper | 18 to 40 | 1 July of the “year of recruitment” (2026 by our reading, see below) |
The notice prints the rule for each post, not a date (pages 14 and 15). For Technical Assistant, Instructor Machine and the Irrigation and PWD Junior Engineer posts, age is counted on 1 July of the calendar year in which the posts are advertised. This advertisement is dated 12 October 2026, so that date is 1 July 2026. For the Panchayat Raj post, the rule says 1 July of the year of recruitment. For the two UPSRTC posts, it is 1 January of the year of recruitment if the posts are advertised from January to June. It is 1 July if they are advertised from July to December. The notice does not say which year counts as the year of recruitment. We take it as 2026, the year of this advertisement, which also gives 1 July 2026. A different reading would move the date by a whole year. If you are within a year of either age limit for these three posts, confirm the date with UPSSSC (contact details in the pay section above) before you apply. UPSRTC’s own employees get 5 more years for those two posts.
SC, ST and other categories notified by the state get as many extra years as the government notifies; the notice does not print the number. State government employees get 5 more years on the upper age limit (page 22). If you belong to more than one reserved group, you get only the one relaxation that helps you most. UPSSSC accepts no proof of birth date other than the High School (or equivalent) certificate (page 23).
UP domicile decides who gets the 227 women’s seats and 46 disability seats
Candidates not domiciled in Uttar Pradesh can apply, but they get no reservation and are treated as Unreserved (page 22). Table 2 (pages 9 and 10) sets aside seats within the posts for special groups:
- Women: 227 seats in total, for example 60 in the Irrigation Junior Engineer row and 54 among UPSRTC Mechanics. The notice says women’s reservation is subject to the final court ruling on a pending state appeal (page 23).
- Ex-servicemen: 55 seats. They must have retired by 25 November 2026 to claim this (page 22).
- Dependants of freedom fighters: 21 seats. Outstanding sportspersons: 21 seats.
- Persons with disabilities: 46 seats, only in the disability types each department has marked. Examples are low vision, hard of hearing, one arm or one leg affected, dwarfism and acid attack victims.
EWS candidates need a certificate issued between 1 April 2026 and 25 November 2026, based on income for 2025-26, in the state’s set format (page 2). Family income from all sources must be below Rs 8 lakh. A UP woman’s caste certificate must be issued through her father’s family.
Rs 25 processing charge for every Advt 24 category; main exam fee not yet printed
The application fee is zero for every category, but each candidate pays an online processing fee of Rs 25 (page 5). Women, ex-servicemen, persons with disabilities and other special groups pay as per their basic category, which is the same Rs 25. Payment modes are bank cards, net banking, UPI and the SBI e-challan.
A second fee for the main exam comes later, and only shortlisted candidates pay it before downloading the admit card. The notice does not give that amount. Your form counts as submitted only after the fee is reconciled with the bank. Money debited but form not submitted? The Applicant Segment on upsssc.gov.in has an “Update Your Transaction ID by Double Verification” option (page 4).
Only four kinds of detail can change after the Advt 24 form is submitted
After final submission, you can log in again with an OTP and change only these, until 2 December 2026 (page 6):
- your correspondence address;
- EWS status and special group details, such as freedom fighter dependant, disability, ex-serviceman, gender and sportsperson;
- details of your essential or preferential qualification;
- marital status.
Choose your posts carefully when you fill the form. Posts you do not select will not be considered (page 3). You give your order of preference among posts later, at document verification (page 2). Submit only one form. If you submit more than one, only the last one counts (page 24).
