RRB Section Controller Recruitment 2026: 119 Posts (CEN 03/2026), Apply by 14 August
On this page
The Railways opened a fresh control-office recruitment today, and it carries three conditions that eliminate people before they even sit the exam: your eyesight must meet the 6/9 standard without glasses, LASIK surgery disqualifies you outright, and OBC candidates pay the full fee. RRB Section Controller Recruitment 2026 (CEN 03/2026) offers 119 posts for graduates across the country, with applications running from 15 July to 14 August 2026.

What a Section Controller Does, and Why This Post Is Special
A Section Controller sits in the divisional control office and directs train movements over a section, sequencing crossings, precedences and margins in real time. It is one of the most responsibility-heavy Level 6 posts a fresh graduate can enter in the Railways. Historically this was a promotion post filled from within; open-market hiring began only with CEN 04/2025 (368 posts), making this the second consecutive direct recruitment for the role. If you missed last year’s window, this is the door reopening, though with a smaller 119-post count.
The Vision Rule That Disqualifies Before Anything Else
Read this before paying the fee, because no amount of exam preparation can fix it. The post carries medical standard A-2, and the CEN’s vision requirements are strict:
- Distant vision of 6/9 in each eye without glasses, and near vision Sn 0.6 in each eye without glasses. There is no fogging test, and spectacle-corrected vision does not count.
- You must also clear colour vision, binocular vision, night vision and myopic vision tests.
- Anyone who has undergone LASIK or any refractive-error surgery is not eligible for this post. The CEN requires a declaration to this effect, and a vision certificate in original is mandatory at the aptitude-test stage.
If your eyesight does not meet the no-glasses standard, this particular recruitment is not for you, and it is better to know that on day one.
CBT Plus Aptitude Test: How the 70:30 Merit Works
Selection has two scored stages, and both count in the final list:
- Stage 1, the CBT: a single computer-based test of 100 questions for 100 marks in 120 minutes. The indicative split is Analytical and Mathematical Capability 60, Logical Capability 20, and Mental Reasoning 20. Negative marking is one-third per wrong answer, marks are normalised across shifts, and qualifying marks are 40% for UR and EWS, 30% for OBC and SC, and 25% for ST.
- Stage 2, the CBAT: candidates at 8 times the vacancies, community-wise, are called for a Computer Based Aptitude Test. It is held in English and Hindi only, has no negative marking, and demands a minimum T-score of 42 in every test battery, with no relaxation for any category.
- Final merit is 70% CBT plus 30% CBAT, drawn only from candidates who qualified the CBAT, followed by document verification (at 1:1 of vacancies) and the medical examination.
The aptitude test is the same family of assessment used for Assistant Loco Pilot selection, and the RDSO Psychology “Candidate’s Corner” hosts pattern material worth practising. Note there is no typing test anywhere in this recruitment.
Where the 119 Posts Sit
Vacancies are spread across RRBs, and you may apply to exactly one. The larger allocations are Ranchi 14, Ahmedabad 11, Chennai 9, Bengaluru 8, Kolkata 8, Malda 7, and 6 each at Bhopal, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Patna and Bhubaneswar, with smaller counts elsewhere. Jammu-Srinagar has zero this cycle. Since your competition pool is your chosen RRB, weigh the vacancy count against the applicant density of the region before picking. The choice of RRB cannot be changed once you apply, not even in the paid modification window, so decide first.
Eligibility, Fee Refund and the Modification Window
- Education: a graduate degree from a recognised university, held in hand when you apply. Candidates awaiting final results are not eligible.
- Age: 20 to 33 years as on 1 July 2026, with standard relaxations (OBC-NCL +3, SC/ST +5, PwBD and ex-servicemen as per rules).
- Fee and refund: ₹500 with ₹400 refunded after you appear in the CBT; ₹250 fully refunded for the concession categories. Fee payment closes 16 August.
- Corrections: a modification window runs 17 to 26 August 2026 at ₹250 per occasion, but your account details and chosen RRB can never be changed.
Applying on the Railway Portal
- Go to rrbapply.gov.in. If you created an account for the 2024, 2025 or earlier 2026 CENs, reuse those credentials; do not make a fresh account.
- Choose your one RRB carefully, complete the form and upload documents. Aadhaar or DigiLocker authentication is recommended by the CEN.
- Pay the fee online before 16 August 2026 and submit before 14 August, 11:59 PM.
- Applying to more than one RRB gets all your applications rejected with debarment, so one form only.
This joins our railway jobs coverage alongside the RRB Technician CEN 02/2026 drive that closes 29 July.
Should You Attempt It?
For a graduate with genuinely strong unaided eyesight and a taste for aptitude-style testing, this is one of the better Level 6 railway entries: only 119 posts, but a two-stage selection that rewards preparation, a ₹35,400 starting basic, and a control-room career with real operational authority. Be honest with yourself about the two hard gates, the no-glasses vision standard with the LASIK bar, and the T-score 42 aptitude requirement that has no category relaxation. The form closes 14 August; the CBT date will be announced on the RRB websites.
