RRB Station Master Recruitment 2026: 1,265 Posts Under CEN 08/2026
On this page
RRB Station Master Recruitment 2026 runs under Centralised Employment Notice (CEN) 08/2026 for 1,265 Station Master posts across 21 Railway Recruitment Boards. The online form runs from 27 October to 25 November 2026 (until 11:59 PM), and the fee can be paid until 27 November 2026. You need a graduate degree in any subject, with the result already out by 25 November. The age limit is 20 to 33 years on 1 January 2027, with more years for OBC, SC and ST candidates. The post is at Pay Level 6 of the 7th Pay Commission matrix (the band that fixes basic pay), starting at Rs 35,400 a month.
RRB Station Master Recruitment 2026: 1,265 posts after Corrigendum No. 1
The summary table on page 4 of the notice prints 1,215 posts. A day later, Corrigendum No. 1 said this figure was a mistake. The total “may be read as 1,265 instead of 1,215”. The RRB-wise table in Annexure-B (page 33) also adds up to 1,265. Page 4 of the notice still shows 1,215, so go by the corrected 1,265.
All 1,265 posts are for one designation at one pay level. The category split in Annexure-B is:
| Category | Posts |
|---|---|
| Unreserved (UR) | 542 |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 296 |
| SC | 176 |
| EWS | 147 |
| ST | 104 |
| Total | 1,265 |
Of these, 133 posts are kept for ex-servicemen. They are counted inside the category figures, not added on top (page 18). The notice also says the numbers may go up or down later, or even become nil in some railways (page 9).
Malda’s four seats are all ST: CEN 08/2026 posts by RRB and zone
You can apply to only one RRB. Applying to two or more gets every application rejected, and you can be barred from future RRB exams (page 5). Your RRB choice cannot be changed later, not even in the correction window. So check this table before you start. Some RRBs fill posts for more than one railway zone, shown in the middle column.
| RRB | Zone(s) and posts | Total |
|---|---|---|
| Mumbai | CR 125, SCR 28, WR 24 | 177 |
| Jammu-Srinagar | NR 122 | 122 |

| Patna | ECR 17 | 17 |
| Muzaffarpur | ECR 14 | 14 |
| Malda | ER 4 | 4 |
| All 21 RRBs | 1,265 |
The zone codes come from page 31 of the notice:
| Code | Railway zone |
|---|---|
| CR | Central Railway |
| ECR | East Central Railway |
| ECoR | East Coast Railway |
| ER | Eastern Railway |
| NR | Northern Railway |
| NCR | North Central Railway |
| NER | North Eastern Railway |
| NFR | Northeast Frontier Railway |
| NWR | North Western Railway |
| SCoR | South Coast Railway |
| SR | Southern Railway |
| SCR | South Central Railway |
| SER | South Eastern Railway |
| SECR | South East Central Railway |
| SWR | South Western Railway |
| WR | Western Railway |
| WCR | West Central Railway |
The category split inside each RRB matters too. Malda’s four posts are all for ST candidates. Gorakhpur has 18 posts, but only one is unreserved. Mumbai’s 28 SCR posts have no OBC seat. Open Annexure-B on page 33 and find the row for your category before you pick.
Inside your RRB you also rank the zones it recruits for (page 23). After selection, the RRB allots a zone by merit, medical result and vacancies. It may also give a zone you did not choose (page 9). A request to move to another railway is not registered until you complete 5 to 10 years of service (page 10).
A degree in hand by 25 November 2026, and no pending results
The only education rule is a graduate degree from a recognised university, or an equivalent (Annexure-A, page 32). Any stream is fine. There is no minimum percentage in the notice.
The timing rule is strict. You must hold the degree by 11:59 PM on 25 November 2026. The notice says candidates “waiting for final results” are not eligible (page 5). The FAQ repeats it: if your final result comes after 25 November, you cannot apply. So final-year students whose result is not out by 25 November cannot apply under this CEN.
If your degree certificate is dated after 25 November, keep the marksheet that shows the result date. The notice asks for it at document verification (DV), the stage where your original papers are checked (page 13).
Up to 40 for railway staff, 35 for widowed women: CEN 08/2026 age rules
Age is counted on 1 January 2027. The notice gives exact birth-date limits, both dates included (page 12):
| Category | Born on or after | Born on or before |
|---|---|---|
| UR and EWS | 2 January 1994 | 1 January 2007 |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 2 January 1991 | 1 January 2007 |
| SC and ST | 2 January 1989 | 1 January 2007 |
Other relaxations from pages 12 and 13:
- Ex-servicemen with more than 6 months of service: 3 years (UR, EWS), 6 years (OBC) or 8 years (SC, ST), after deducting the length of military service from age.
- Serving railway Group C and old Group D staff, and substitutes, with at least 3 years of service: up to 40 years (UR, EWS), 43 (OBC) or 45 (SC, ST).
- Staff of railway canteens, co-operative societies and institutes: up to their length of service or 5 years, whichever is less.
- Widowed, divorced or judicially separated women who have not remarried: up to 35 (UR, EWS), 38 (OBC) or 40 (SC, ST).
Only the single highest relaxation applies; they do not add up. SC, ST and OBC candidates who apply for unreserved posts get no age relaxation (page 13). Your date of birth must match your Class 10 certificate.
Annexure VI or the FAQ’s medical report: vision papers for the Station Master CBAT
The Station Master post needs medical standard A-2 (page 11). Each eye must read 6/9 for distance and Sn 0.6 on the near-vision chart, without glasses. You must also pass colour, binocular, night and myopic vision tests.
Two rules are easy to miss:
- Anyone who has had LASIK, or any surgery to correct eyesight, is “not eligible for the post of Station Master” (page 11).
- A medical certificate must be shown on the day of the aptitude test. Without it you will not be allowed to sit that test (pages 11 and 22).
The notice asks for a vision certificate from an eye specialist in its own format (Annexure VI, page 40). It does not say which hospital the eye specialist must be from. Question 59 of the RRBs’ FAQ says the same.
But question 66 of the FAQ adds a second paper that the notice does not mention. It describes a “Self-Screening Medical Declaration” filled in the online form. It covers speech, hearing, eyesight (including no LASIK), mental fitness, conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure, and use of psychoactive substances. The form then gives a medical report to download. The FAQ says this report must be signed by a general physician and an eye specialist. It is accepted only if issued by a central or state government hospital or a medical college.
The notice does not mention this report. Until the RRBs clarify, plan for both papers. Get the Annexure VI eye certificate, and get the report signed at a government hospital or medical college.
Ex-servicemen have a separate vision standard in Annexure VI A (page 41), which allows glasses within limits. The LASIK bar applies to them too.
If you fail the railway medical, no other post is offered instead (page 11). You may be offered one paid medical appeal, under set conditions. If you wear glasses, get your eyes checked before you pay the fee.
Annexure-A marks the post “No” for all five disability groups listed there (visual, hearing, locomotor, other and multiple). So the notice does not show this post as suitable for candidates with a disability.
A T-score of 42 in every battery: the CBAT after the 100-question CBT
Selection has four stages: a Computer Based Test (CBT), a Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT), document verification and a medical exam (page 20).
The CBT has 100 one-mark questions in 120 minutes (page 21). A wrong answer costs one third of a mark. The indicative split is:
| CBT section | Marks |
|---|---|
| Basic Science, Mathematical and Analytical Capability (maths and basic science 30, data analysis and interpretation 30) | 60 |
| Logical Capability (logical reasoning and an English reading passage) | 20 |
| Mental Reasoning (analogy, series, coding-decoding, ranking) | 20 |
You can take the CBT in English, Hindi or one of 13 regional languages, chosen in the form (page 23). The reading comprehension passages are in English. To pass the CBT you need at least 40% (UR, EWS), 30% (OBC, SC) or 25% (ST), page 22.
For each RRB and category, about eight times the number of posts go on to the CBAT (page 22). The CBAT is a set of aptitude test batteries in English and Hindi only. You need a T-score (a scaled score, not raw marks) of at least 42 in every battery, with no relaxation for any category. It has no negative marking. The RRBs point candidates to the website of RDSO (Research Designs and Standards Organisation) (Psychology, Candidate’s Corner) for details of this test.
The final merit list gives 70% weight to your CBT marks and 30% to your CBAT marks. Candidates equal to the number of posts are then called for DV (page 22). If two people tie, the older one ranks higher.
The notice does not give any exam date. RRBs share the exam city about 10 days ahead and the e-call letter about 4 days ahead (page 28).
Rs 400 back after the CBT, and the Rs 50,000 EBC income line
The fee is paid online only, by net banking, card or UPI (page 14):
- Rs 500 for most candidates. Rs 400 comes back if you appear in the CBT.
- Rs 250 for women, transgender candidates, ex-servicemen, SC, ST, minorities and the Economically Backward Class (EBC). The full Rs 250 comes back if you appear in the CBT.
Bank charges are deducted from the refund. EBC here means an annual family income below Rs 50,000. It is not the same as OBC or EWS, and it gives a fee concession only, not a reserved post (pages 14 and 15). You must already hold your EBC certificate, BPL card, Izzat MST (a monthly season ticket issued by the Railways) or a central poverty-programme certificate when you fill the form. One issued after 25 November 2026 is not accepted.
Refunds go only to a bank account linked to the Aadhaar number you validate in the form (page 15). If you have no bank account, you may use a family member’s Aadhaar-linked account through the same process. Incomplete or rejected applications get no refund.
Aadhaar or DigiLocker first, then one RRB and its zones: the CEN 08/2026 form
- Go to rrbapply.gov.in. If you made an account for any RRB notice of 2024, 2025 or 2026, log in with it. Otherwise create one. Name, parents’ names, date of birth, mobile number and e-mail in this account can never be changed later.
- Verify your identity with Aadhaar or DigiLocker. The notice warns that other photo IDs lead to stricter checks at every stage (page 6).
- Pick one RRB and rank its zones.
- Take the live photo in the form with a webcam or phone. Use a plain white background and non-white clothes, preferably plain and dark. No cap, mask or glasses, and your head must fill at least half the photo (page 24).
- Upload your signature in black ink on white paper, in joined handwriting (not capital letters). Scan it at 100 DPI or more as a JPG of 30 to 49 KB, at least 140 x 60 pixels (pages 24 and 25).
- Submit the form by 11:59 PM on 25 November 2026, then pay the fee by 27 November 2026.
The FAQ says a phone browser works, but a laptop or desktop is better. Common Service Centres can also fill the form for you (page 26). From 28 November to 7 December 2026 you can edit the form for Rs 250 each time. Account details and the chosen RRB stay locked. If you move from a Rs 250 category to a Rs 500 one, you pay the Rs 250 difference as well (page 27).
For application problems, the notice gives the helpline rrb.help@csc.gov.in and 9592001188 or 0172-5653333, from 10 AM to 5 PM on working days (page 10).
Training stipend, Territorial Army call-up and a Rs 35,400 start
Station Master is a Pay Level 6 post in the 7th Pay Commission pay matrix. A pay level is the band that fixes your basic pay, and Level 6 starts at Rs 35,400 a month (page 4). The notice gives only this starting basic pay. Dearness allowance (DA) and other railway allowances are added on top under railway rules, so we have not estimated the take-home amount.
Other terms from the notice:
- During training you get only a stipend (page 9).
- Selected staff may be called for service in the Railway Engineers’ units of the Territorial Army (page 10).
- Government and PSU employees can apply directly but must show a no-objection certificate (NOC) at DV (page 20).
- SC and ST candidates can ask for a free sleeper class pass to reach exams and DV (page 10).
- Carry a colour passport photo not older than two months to the CBT, CBAT, DV and medical exam (page 28).
