Every OAVS applicant must clear an English and Odia language test before the rest of the paper is marked. OAVS Recruitment 2026, Advt. No. 1/2026 of the Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya Sangathan (OAVS), fills 815 regular Principal and teacher posts. They are in its Odisha Adarsha Vidyalayas and Odisha Mining Adarsha Vidyalayas, and OAVS works under the state’s School and Mass Education Department. The online form runs from 12 October 2026 to 5:00 PM on 11 November 2026. Most teaching posts need a degree or master’s degree in the subject plus a B.Ed. or the matching professional course. Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs) must also have passed the Odisha Secondary School Teacher Eligibility Test (OSSTET), OTET Paper II or the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) Paper II.

What OAVS has put out for Advt. 1/2026: the 24-page detailed modalities (PDF), signed by the State Project Director. OAVS also posted a separate syllabus PDF for each post on the OAVS recruitment page. The modalities carry no issue date; registration opened on 12 October 2026. Bracketed page numbers point to the modalities. On 30 October 2026 the OAVS website showed no corrigendum or date extension for Advt. 1/2026.

OAVS Recruitment 2026: six kinds of post, from Level 9 to Level 13

All 815 posts are regular (page 2). Pay levels are those of the Odisha Revised Scales of Pay (ORSP) Rules, 2017.

Post Pay level Posts
Principal Level 13 109
PGT (Post Graduate Teacher): English 8, Physics 19, Chemistry 21, Biology 9, Mathematics 30, Computer Science 14 Level 11 101
TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher): English 150, Odia 21, Hindi 4, Sanskrit 2, Mathematics 72, Science 40, Social Studies 73 Level 10 362
Art Teacher Level 10 88
Physical Education Teacher (PET) Level 9 83
Computer Teacher Level 9 72
Total 815

TGT English alone has 150 posts, the largest single group. The notice says the number of posts may go up or down, and OAVS may choose not to fill some (page 13).

More than half the OAVS seats are reserved for ST candidates

The category table on page 3 splits each post across UR (unreserved), SEBC (Socially and Educationally Backward Classes), SC and ST, with separate columns for women in each. Its totals are:

  • ST: 285 general plus 136 for women, 421 in all;
  • UR: 129 plus 50 for women, 179 in all;
  • SC: 102 plus 48 for women, 150 in all;
  • SEBC: 45 plus 20 for women, 65 in all.

Within these, 15 posts are for ex-servicemen and 6 for sportspersons. For persons with disability (PwD), the notice lists 32 posts (page 3). They are 9 for blindness and low vision, 9 for hard of hearing, 7 for locomotor disability and 7 for a combination. The notice does not split them by post. TGT Sanskrit has no UR seat at all: its 2 posts are one SC and one ST seat. PGT Chemistry has 5 UR seats against 16 ST seats.

Odia up to ME standard, and OAVS marks with no rounding

Some general rules apply to every post (pages 4 and 5):

  • Odia: you must have passed MIL (Modern Indian Language) Odia up to ME standard. If you have not, you can still apply. You must then pass that Odia exam from the Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha within three years of joining.
  • Two languages: you should be able to teach in both English and Odia medium.
  • No rounding: 49.99% counts as less than 50%, and 44.99% as less than 45%.
  • Outside-state degrees: you must show proof of equivalency from a university in Odisha and recognition by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) at document verification.
  • Special B.Ed. or D.Ed.: the note on page 9 says holders are not eligible for “the above posts”. Para 11.10 on page 13 names only Principals, PGTs and TGTs. Art, PET and Computer Teacher applicants with these degrees should check with OAVS before applying.

The date your result was declared, or your mark sheet was issued, is taken as the date you got the qualification (page 5).

PGT and TGT: 50% aggregate, B.Ed., and OSSTET or CTET for TGTs

PGTs need a master’s degree (or a two-year integrated PG course) in the subject with at least 50% marks in aggregate, plus a B.Ed. (page 6). SC, ST, SEBC and PwD candidates need 45%. PGT Biology accepts many life science subjects, but only if you studied Botany and Zoology at graduation. PGT Computer Science needs an M.Sc. (CS or IT), MCA, M.E. or M.Tech.; the B.Ed. is needed later for promotion.

TGTs need a four-year integrated degree, a bachelor’s degree in the subject plus a B.Ed., or a three-year integrated BA B.Ed. (page 7). The degree needs 50% (45% for reserved and PwD), and the notice also prints 50% against the B.Ed. or integrated course. Every TGT must have passed OSSTET, OTET Paper II or CTET Paper II (page 4). The subject rules are strict:

  • TGT Mathematics: a B.Sc. with at least 200 marks in Mathematics and two of Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Computer Application, Statistics and Electronics. A B.Tech. or B.E. with the same mix also works.
  • TGT Science: three of Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Bio-Technology and Life Science in the B.Sc.
  • TGT Social Studies: one of History, Geography, Political Science and Economics, plus one more subject from a list of eight.
  • TGT English or Odia: the language as an elective or main subject for at least three years or six semesters.
  • TGT Hindi and Sanskrit: the language in the BA plus the matching Hindi or Sanskrit teacher training (pages 7 and 8). The notice also lists other routes, such as Shastri for Sanskrit.

Art Teachers need a degree in Fine Arts or Visual Arts (page 8). PETs need a B.P.Ed. or M.P.Ed. Computer Teachers need a B.E. or B.Tech. (CS or IT), MCA, M.Sc. (IT or CS), NIELIT B level, BCA or B.Sc. Computer Science (page 9). These three posts also ask for 50% in aggregate (45% for SC, ST, SEBC and PwD).

OAVS Principal: Level 11 or 12 service before you apply

A Principal needs a master’s degree with 45%, a B.Ed., and service experience in central or state government or their autonomous bodies (pages 5 and 6). Any one of these counts:

  • already a Principal, or on an analogous post, at Pay Level 12;
  • Vice-Principal or Assistant Education Officer at Level 12, with 3 years as PGT and 2 as Vice-Principal;
  • PGT or Lecturer at Level 11 with at least 7 years of regular service;
  • 10 years of combined regular service as TGT (Level 10) and PGT (Level 11), with at least 3 as PGT.

OAVS age limits: under 42 for teachers, under 50 for Principal

Age is counted on 1 January 2026 (pages 9 and 16). For every post except Principal, you must be above 21 and under 42 years of age. For Principal, you must be above 32 and under 50. The date of birth in your Matriculation certificate is the only one accepted.

  • SC, ST, SEBC and women: 5 years more on the upper limit (for Principal, ex-military persons too).
  • Persons with disability: 10 years more.
  • Teachers already in service under the state or central government or their autonomous bodies: up to 5 years more, for all teaching posts except Principal (page 9).
  • Ex-servicemen: for posts other than Principal, page 9 applies Odisha’s 1985 Ex-servicemen rules, under which (page 10) they deduct their service from their age. They need at least six months of continuous service. For Principal, page 9 lists 5 years for ex-military persons.

Language test first, then 0.25 negative marking in the OAVS CBT

Selection is by a Computer Based Test (CBT), an interview and, for some posts, a performance test (pages 11 and 21 to 23). The paper is in English and Odia. Each question carries one mark, and 0.25 is cut for each wrong answer.

Part I is a language test of 40 questions: 20 in English and 20 in Odia. It only decides whether the rest of your paper is marked. You need at least 5 marks in English, 5 in Odia and 13 in all. Part I marks do not count in the merit list.

Post CBT after Part I Other stages Final weight
Principal (180 questions, 180 minutes) Part II general awareness and computer literacy 40; Part III academic 30; Part IV administration and finance 70 Interview 60 Test 70%, interview 30%
PGT, TGT and PET (200 minutes) Part II current affairs 30 and reasoning 30; Part III 100 (subject content and methodology for PGT and TGT, subject questions for PET) Interview 40 Test 70%, interview 30%
Art Teacher and Computer Teacher (200 minutes) Part II current affairs 30 and reasoning 30; Part III 100 subject questions Performance test 20, interview 20 Test 50%, performance test 20%, interview 30%

You can answer the interview in Odia or English (page 20). The CBT may be held in 11 Odisha cities, including Bhubaneswer, Kataka, Sambalpur, Rourkela, Brahampur and Baleswar as the notice spells them, and you choose three (page 12). Report 90 minutes before the test (page 11).

Post UR and SEBC SC, ST and PwD

All teaching posts Rs 1,500 Rs 1,000

  • Bond: selected candidates sign a bond to stay in service for at least two years from joining (page 15). The notice does not give an amount.
  • Posting: anywhere in Odisha (page 13).
  • Pay and pension: regular posts carry DA (dearness allowance) and other allowances “as decided by the OAVS from time to time” (page 11). Staff come under the New Pension Scheme (NPS). The notice gives pay levels only, not rupee amounts.
