MP Police Constable 2026: 7,500 GD Posts for 10th Pass

MP Police Constable 2026 has 7,500 General Duty (GD) posts, and you only need to have passed 10th to apply. ST candidates from Madhya Pradesh need only 8th. The online form on MPOnline is open from 22 September to 6 October 2026 (until midnight), and the written test is planned from 19 November 2026. Two things on this page need your attention: the age limit for your category and domicile, and the court case on pay in the first three years.

How the 7,500 MP Police Constable posts are split

The posts come in two groups. The Special Armed Force (SAF) has 700 posts, and they are for men only. The other 6,800 posts are in the district force, and 2,380 of those are kept for women (35%).

The last row needs a word. The rulebook prints 91 SAF posts and 884 district posts in a separate “13%” column under UR and again under OBC. These are the same posts, not extra ones, so don’t add them twice. The rulebook does not say which group will finally get them.

Inside each category, 10% of posts go to ex-servicemen and 15% to Home Guards. Police Headquarters may also raise or cut the number of posts later.

MP Police Constable 2026 age limit: 33, 38 or 43 on 6 October

ESB counts your age on 6 October 2026, the last date of the form. You must be at least 18. The upper limit depends on your gender, category and domicile:

A few small groups get a higher limit of 38 or 43. These include Vikram Award winners and the higher-caste spouse of a couple honoured under the state’s inter-caste marriage incentive scheme. Check the table on page 7 of the rulebook if you are in one of them. Ex-servicemen from MP can deduct their defence service from their age, as long as the result is not more than 3 years above the limit.

Applying to MP Police from another state

Candidates from other states can apply, but only for unreserved posts (called UR-Open in the rulebook). There is no reservation, no age relaxation and no fee concession for them. A woman from Uttar Pradesh, for example, has an upper age of 33, not 38, and an SC candidate from Rajasthan pays the UR fee. Every reserved-category claim needs an MP caste certificate in the state’s format, which includes MP domicile.

What the MP Police form costs: three separate fees

Some job sites list only the Rs 500 exam fee, but the rulebook charges three fees, paid together:

One line in the rulebook lists only SC, ST and OBC for the lower police fee, while page 1 includes EWS. If you are EWS, check the amount the portal asks for. There is no disability quota and no fee concession for candidates with disabilities, because the police department is exempt from the rule on recruiting persons with disabilities.

The rulebook is unclear on whether you can pay later during the correction window. One clause allows it and another says corrections are only for forms already paid. To be safe, pay by 6 October. Each correction until 11 October costs Rs 20 plus a Rs 40 portal fee. If you change your category from UR to a reserved one, the extra fee you paid is not refunded.

The 70% stipend rule and the High Court order of 8 September 2026

The pay scale is Rs 19,500 to Rs 62,000. The rulebook (pages 5 and 14) also says you get a stipend in the first three years. A stipend is a reduced pay for new recruits, here 70%, 80% and 90% of the minimum basic pay. That works out to Rs 13,650, Rs 15,600 and Rs 17,550 a month. The rulebook cites a General Administration Department (GAD) circular of 12 December 2019 for this.

On 8 September 2026, a day before this rulebook came out, the MP High Court at Jabalpur struck down the 70/80/90% rule. The order came in Writ Petition 14411 of 2020 and connected cases. The rules it struck down include a GAD circular of the same date, 12 December 2019. The court said a salary lower than the prescribed pay scale can be given only as a punishment for proven misconduct. It added that even a punishment cannot cut pay below the minimum of the scale. It ordered full pay during probation for the employees in these cases who were appointed after 25 November 2019.

So what will a new constable get? That is not settled yet. According to news reports of 15 and 17 September 2026, the state government has gone to the Supreme Court against this order and asked for a stay. As of 28 September 2026 we found no stay order and no hearing date. News reports of 26 September 2026 say the High Court has told the state to pay full salary until the Supreme Court grants a stay. The state may take an undertaking from employees to return the extra pay if it wins. If the High Court order survives the appeal and the state applies it to police recruits, a new constable would get the full Rs 19,500 basic from the start. If it does not, the rulebook’s 70%, 80% and 90% stipend applies. We will update this section when the Supreme Court decides. The other recruitment pages we checked do not mention the court order.

Here is a rough estimate, not an official figure. MP pays a Dearness Allowance (DA, a cost-of-living addition to pay) of 58%, under the MP Finance Department order dated 2 April 2026. With full pay, basic Rs 19,500 + DA Rs 11,310 = Rs 30,810. The National Pension System (NPS) takes 10% of that, Rs 3,081, which leaves about Rs 27,700 a month. With the rulebook’s stipend, your first-year basic is only Rs 13,650. Neither the rulebook nor the DA order says whether DA is paid on a stipend, so we have not worked out a take-home figure for that case. House rent allowance and police allowances are not included, because MP’s HRA rates under the current pay rules are not confirmed.

A Class 8 level paper with no negative marking, then the PET

The written test has 100 questions for 100 marks in 2 hours. There is no negative marking, so don’t leave any question blank. The questions are at the level of MP Board Class 8:

• General knowledge and reasoning: 40 questions
• Intellectual ability and mental aptitude: 30 questions
• Science and simple arithmetic: 30 questions

The paper runs in two shifts, 10 AM to 12 noon and 3 PM to 5 PM. The rulebook says Hindi in one place and Hindi or English in another. Expect Hindi, and check your admit card for the medium.

Marks from different shifts are adjusted to a common scale. Then, in each category, ESB calls seven candidates for every post to the physical efficiency test (PET). After that, your final merit is your adjusted written score plus your PET marks. Some priority groups get a bonus of 5% of their written marks. They include NCC ‘C’ certificate holders, ex-servicemen (other ranks) and work-charged or contingency-paid government staff, and the full list is on page 5 of the rulebook. Home Guards skip the written test and are ranked by years of service and PET marks.

MP Police PET marks and height rules for 2026

The PET carries 100 marks, and everyone must score at least 30:

Ex-servicemen and Home Guards have a relaxed scale. The PET date given to you will not be changed, so plan to be there.

Height and chest are checked with no relaxation at any stage:

• District force, men in UR, SC and OBC: 168 cm, chest 81 cm (86 cm expanded).
• District force, ST men: 160 cm, chest 76 cm (81 cm expanded).
• Women: 155 cm, with no chest test.
• SAF men: 168 cm for UR and OBC and 165 cm for SC and ST, chest 79 cm (84 cm expanded).
• EWS is not named in the height tables. Until ESB clarifies, plan for the UR standard.

The chest must expand by at least 5 cm. The medical test then checks eyesight without glasses (6/9 in the better eye and 6/12 in the other), colour vision, knock-knees and flat feet.

e-KYC, a dated photo and four exam cities: the MPOnline form

1. Create or open your profile on the MPOnline ESB portal and finish e-KYC. The portal will not let you fill the form without it.
2. Get a fresh photo with a white background, taken within the last 3 months. Your name and the date it was taken must be printed on it, and both ears must show. Keep at least five copies, and go to the exam with the same look (beard or clean-shaven) as in the photo. Our photo resizer can help you get the file size right.
3. Choose four exam cities in order. The 13 cities are Anuppur, Barwani, Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Khandwa, Neemuch, Ratlam, Rewa, Sagar, Satna, Sidhi and Ujjain.
4. Enter your 10th marksheet number and marks. The form asks for them, so your result must already be out.
5. Check your mobile number and email carefully. They cannot be corrected later.
6. Pay the fee and download the confirmation. Fill only one form.

The biometric check at the exam uses Aadhaar, so keep your Aadhaar unlocked. The rulebook is also unclear on whether an e-Aadhaar printout is accepted as ID, so carry an original photo ID. For help, call the ESB toll-free number 1800 233 7899 or MPOnline on 0755-6720200.

Rules that can end your MP Police selection later

• Two-child rule: if you have more than two living children and one was born on or after 26 January 2001, you cannot be appointed.
• Government employees need their department’s permission before taking the exam, and must show an accepted resignation if selected.
• Posting: you will not be posted in your home district, and you must serve at least 5 years in the first unit you join.
• Training: there is no exemption. If you don’t report for training on time, you lose the job.
• Probation is 3 years.

The first version of page 1 made a live registration at an MP employment exchange compulsory. The revised page 1, issued on 15 September 2026, no longer has that note. ESB has not issued any notice explaining the change, so if you already have a live registration, keep it.

Anuppur, Barwani and percentile cut-offs: changes since 2025

• The number of posts is the same: 7,500, with the same SAF and district split.
• There are 13 exam cities instead of 11, with Anuppur and Barwani added.
• The PET shortlisting rule now uses a cut-off percentile instead of cut-off marks. Both years adjust marks across shifts the same way.
• Government employees now need permission before the exam, not only at the time of joining.
• In 2025, ESB extended the last date by a week. That is no reason to wait this time.

Dates from form to written test: 22 September to 19 November

A separate Constable (Driver) exam with about 1,000 posts is on the ESB calendar for November 2026. It has no rulebook yet, so don’t mix it up with this one.
