ISRO LPSC Scientist Engineer Recruitment 2026: Welding, Turbo and Power Electronics Posts
On this page
Three posts, one each in Welding, Turbo Machinery and Power Electronics, make up Advertisement LPSC/03/2026 in ISRO LPSC Scientist Engineer Recruitment 2026. Each needs both a B.E. or B.Tech and an M.E. or M.Tech. The Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC), an ISRO centre at Valiamala near Thiruvananthapuram, published Advertisement No. LPSC/03/2026, dated 26 September 2026. Applications opened at 2 PM on 29 September 2026 and close at 2 PM on 13 October 2026. The fee can be paid until 2 PM on 14 October 2026. All 3 posts are unreserved, and the upper age limit is 30 on 13 October 2026. In ISRO, ‘SC’ in Scientist/Engineer ‘SC’ is a grade name, not the Scheduled Caste category. The grade sits in Pay Level 10 of the central pay matrix, with basic pay from Rs 56,100 to Rs 1,77,500. A 100-mark written test picks who is interviewed, and both stages count equally in the final list.
Matching your B.Tech and M.Tech to post 820, 821 or 822
| Post No. | Discipline | Posts | B.E./B.Tech in | M.E./M.Tech in |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 820 | Welding | 1 | Mechanical, Production, Metallurgy, Manufacturing or Material Science | Welding Technology, or Mechanical Welding and Sheet Metal Engg., or Manufacturing, Metallurgy or Production with welding as one of the subjects |
| 821 | Turbo Machinery | 1 | Mechanical or Aerospace | Turbo Machinery, or Thermal and Fluids Engg. or Aerospace Propulsion with Turbo Machinery as one of the subjects |
| 822 | Power Electronics | 1 | ECE, Electronics and Instrumentation, Applied Electronics, EEE, Electrical, Avionics or Power Engg. | Power Electronics. Power Electronics and Control. Power Control and Drives. Advanced Electrical Power System. Electrical and Electronics (Power Systems). High Voltage and Power Systems Engg. Industrial Power Control and Drives. |
The notice also says what each officer will do. The Welding scientist will do in-depth research on welding aerospace materials, such as high-nickel high-strength alloys, stainless steels and non-ferrous metals. The Turbo Machinery post covers design, CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) studies, testing and performance analysis of turbo machines in launch vehicles. The Power Electronics post covers high-power, high-frequency, high-efficiency converters for AEPS (a short form the notice does not spell out). It also covers low specific weight converters for EPS in nano-satellite systems (also not spelled out), and drive electronics for high-power brushless DC (BLDC) motors.
You can apply for more than one post, but each needs its own application. LPSC may hold the tests for two or more posts at the same time.
ISRO LPSC Scientist Engineer Recruitment 2026 marks: 64.9% does not count as 65%
- B.E. or B.Tech: at least 65% aggregate (the average of all semesters), or CGPA (cumulative grade point average) 6.84 on a 10-point scale. AMIE (Associate Member of the Institution of Engineers (India)) and Grade IETE candidates need 65% or CGPA 6.84 in Section B alone.
- M.E. or M.Tech: at least 60% aggregate, or CGPA or CPI (cumulative performance index) 6.5 on a 10-point scale.
- Each degree must have been finished within the normal course duration set by the university.
- Both degrees must be in hand by 13 October 2026.
The notice also sets these rules on how marks are read:
- If your degree certificate or consolidated marksheet shows both CGPA and percentage, either one meeting ISRO’s norm is enough.
- If it shows only CGPA, that CGPA must meet the norm. You cannot convert it to a percentage, even if your university gives a conversion formula. The same applies the other way round.
- Marks are not rounded off. For example, 64.9% stays 64.9% and does not count as 65%.
- For a dual or integrated degree, separate B.Tech and M.Tech figures are judged separately. If the certificate gives only one figure for the whole course, that figure is used. If it gives none, the cumulative figure on the final or consolidated marksheet counts.
- Professional degrees through open and distance learning (ODL) are not accepted.
- Holders of foreign degrees must bring an equivalence certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) to the interview.
A 30-year age cap with no reserved seat among the three posts
The maximum age is 30 years as on 13 October 2026, for all three posts. The notice gives no minimum age. Ex-servicemen, persons with benchmark disabilities and departmental candidates get age relaxation under Government of India orders. How many extra years each group gets is left to those orders.
Only Indian nationals can apply. All three posts are unreserved, so there is no SC, ST, OBC or EWS quota in this advertisement. Under “Physical Requirements”, the notice lists the same abilities for all three posts, such as seeing, hearing, standing, running and work with the fingers.
Negative marks in Part A, none in Part B of the LPSC written test
| Part | What it tests | Questions | Time | Marks | Negative marking |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| A | Your discipline (multiple choice questions, MCQ) | 60 | 75 minutes | 60 | +1 for right, minus 1/3 for wrong |
| B | Aptitude and ability (MCQ) | Up to 15 | 30 minutes | 20 | None |
| C | Descriptive technical questions on your specialisation | Not stated | 30 minutes | 20 | Not stated |
Part B covers numerical, logical, diagrammatic, abstract and deductive reasoning. The notice says nothing about negative marks in Part C.
The written test result decides who reaches the interview. The notice says candidates will be shortlisted for the interview “in 1:5 ratio with a minimum of 10 candidates”. It does not say whether the minimum of 10 applies to each post or to all three posts together. You can answer interview questions in Hindi too.
Why a strong Part A cannot rescue a weak Part C
The notice sets three separate qualifying conditions:
- Written test: at least 50% in each of Part A, Part B and Part C.
- Interview: at least 50 out of 100.
- Aggregate: at least 60%.
Because each part has its own 50% bar, high marks in Part A cannot make up for scoring below 50% in Part B or Part C. The final panel gives 50% weight to the written test and 50% to the interview. If two candidates tie, LPSC looks first at the written test marks, then at the M.E. or M.Tech marks, and then at age, with the older candidate placed higher. LPSC also says it may decide not to fill any of the posts.
Refunds of Rs 500 or Rs 750 go only to those who sit the test
All applicants pay Rs 750 online, by 2 PM on 14 October 2026, whatever their category. What happens next depends on your category and on whether you sit the written test:
| Applicant | Refund after the written test | Fee kept by LPSC |
|---|---|---|
| Women, SC, ST, persons with disabilities, ex-servicemen | Rs 750 (full) | Nil |
| All others | Rs 500 | Rs 250 |
The refund goes online only to candidates who appear for the written test. The money goes back to the bank account you type into the form, so check the account holder’s name, number and IFSC code twice. SC, ST, disabled and ex-servicemen candidates must upload their certificate for the refund. Women in the unreserved (UR), OBC or EWS group do not need to upload any certificate for it. If a payment fails, you can try again only after 30 minutes, and any bank charges are yours.
What the LPSC online form asks you to upload
- Apply on the LPSC recruitment portal between 2 PM on 29 September 2026 and 2 PM on 13 October 2026. Note your registration number.
- Upload a photo with a clear face on a white or light background, without dark glasses. It must be a JPG of up to 40 KB, with height and width each between 95 and 100 pixels.
- Keep the file name, including the extension, to 25 characters or fewer, using only letters and numbers.
- Upload the certificates and marksheets of both degrees.
- Pay right away, or later through “Make payment” until 2 PM on 14 October 2026.
Nothing has to be sent to LPSC by post. Where one person sends duplicate forms, LPSC keeps the most recent one whose fee arrived by the fee deadline. Give a correct e-mail ID, since test and interview details come only by e-mail and on the LPSC website. Employees of a government office, public sector undertaking (PSU) or autonomous body must inform their employer. They need the original no objection certificate (NOC) at the interview, or LPSC will not interview them. Candidates without their original documents at the interview are not interviewed and get no travel fare.
Where an LPSC scientist is posted and how promotion works
- The first posting is at LPSC, Valiamala. Later transfers can take officers to other ISRO or Department of Space units anywhere in the country.
- The notice says the posts are temporary but likely to continue indefinitely.
- Promotion follows ISRO’s Merit Promotion Scheme. Staff are reviewed after a set period in a grade and promoted on merit, whether or not a vacancy exists.
- Benefits include medical care for self and dependents, a subsidised canteen, house building advance, leave travel concession, and the National Pension System or Unified Pension Scheme.
- No travel fare is paid for the written test. Outstation interview candidates get a to-and-fro second class railway fare by the shortest route, if they show the ticket and do not use the railway concession.
Without allowance rates in the notice, any in-hand salary figure would be a guess, so none is given here.
