ISRO HSFC Medical Officer Recruitment 2026: 4 Medical Officer SD Posts
On this page
ISRO’s Human Space Flight Centre (HSFC) in Bengaluru wants 4 doctors for its human space flight programme. These are Medical Officer ‘SD’ posts in Level 11 of the central pay matrix (basic pay Rs 67,700 to Rs 2,08,700). There is 1 post in General Medicine, 1 in Physiology and 2 in Aerospace Medicine. Paper applications must reach HSFC between 9 October and 8 November 2026, by ordinary post only. You need an MBBS and an MD (or DNB for General Medicine) in the same discipline, and there is no upper age limit. For ISRO HSFC Medical Officer 2026, the form must be typed and sent by ordinary post; both rules are explained below.
ISRO HSFC Medical Officer 2026 post codes 01, 02 and 03: one application for each
All four posts are Group ‘A’ and unreserved (UR). Each one has its own post code, and you need a separate application for each code you want.
| Post code | Discipline | Posts | Essential degree |
|---|---|---|---|
| 01 | General Medicine (Internal Medicine) | 1 | MD or DNB in General Medicine (Internal Medicine) |
| 02 | Physiology | 1 | MD (Physiology) |
| 03 | Aerospace Medicine | 2 | MD (Aerospace Medicine) |
| Total | 4 | ||
MBBS is the prerequisite for all three codes. HSFC says the number of posts is provisional and may go up or down. The posts are called temporary but likely to continue. You can be posted to any ISRO or Department of Space centre in India.
Astronaut selection, centrifuge tests and flight support: the three HSFC roles
Pages 3 and 4 outline the work. Page 4 says the list is only an outline and not exhaustive.
- Aerospace Medicine (code 03): lead astronaut medical selection and certification boards. Monitor astronaut health in centrifuge, hypobaric chamber and survival training. Act as Crew Flight Surgeon for in-flight medical tele-support. Supervise rehabilitation after the flight.
- Physiology (code 02): build baseline heart, lung, hormone and nerve profiles. Track how the body adapts under low pressure, high pressure and centrifuge conditions, and during flight through telemetry. Lead recovery studies after the flight.
- General Medicine (code 01): broad knowledge of diseases of the heart, lungs, hormones, kidneys, nerves and metabolism, emergency care, and reading ECG, imaging and lab reports. The role also covers research on how the body responds to stress, and tracking astronauts’ changes in training.
Second class in both MBBS and MD, plus other HSFC page 12 conditions
Page 12 adds a condition that is not in the post table: you must have at least second class in both MBBS and MD, with a compulsory rotating internship. Other points from pages 2, 3 and 12:
- You must hold the degree by 8 November 2026, the cut-off date for qualifications.
- The degree must be recognised and registered with the Medical Council of India, a State Medical Council or the National Medical Commission (NMC).
- A foreign degree must be ratified as equal to MBBS or MD (page 3 names the NMC, page 12 the Medical Council of India). Bring the proof to the interview, or your candidature is cancelled.
- Courses done through open and distance learning (ODL) are not accepted.
- If you hold only State Medical Council registration, you must submit NMC registration at the time of joining.
- Only Indian nationals can apply. There is no upper age limit.
Persons with benchmark disabilities (PwBD, at least 40%) may apply for posts suitable for them, and are judged by the general standard.
Paying Rs 750 on BharatKosh, and the interview-only refund
Everyone first pays Rs 750 per application through BharatKosh, the government’s online payment site (Non-Tax Receipt Portal, NTRP). Attach the payment receipt to your form. The fee must be paid by 8 November 2026. Platform service charges are yours to bear.
Annexure-II shows the BharatKosh steps as screenshots. Choose Quick Payment and the depositor category Individual. Set the Ministry to SPACE and the Purpose to RECRUITMENT APPLICATION FEES. For the Pay and Account Office (PAO), pick 008598 (PAO, Human Space Flight Centre, Bengaluru). For the Drawing and Disbursing Office, pick 208599 (Accounts Officer, Human Space Flight Centre, Bengaluru). The screenshots use a test amount of Rs 10, so enter Rs 750 yourself. Download the receipt with its transaction reference number.
The refund depends on your category, and it is paid only if you appear for the interview:
| Who you are | Back after attending the interview | What you finally pay |
|---|---|---|
| Women, SC, ST, PwBD, ex-servicemen | Rs 750 | Nil |
| All others | Rs 500 | Rs 250 |
| Not called, or absent from the interview | Nothing | Rs 750 |
Page 5 says a refund “will not be considered if a candidate fails to appear for the Interview”. It also says the fee is refunded “only to those candidates who appear for Interview”. That a candidate who is not called gets nothing back is our reading of this line.
For OBC candidates: the Hindi text of page 5 lists OBC in the full-refund group instead of PwBD. The English text lists PwBD, not OBC. Because page 14 says the English version prevails, OBC candidates appear to fall in the Rs 500 refund group. If unsure, e-mail rmt-hsfc@isro.gov.in.
HSFC pays refunds only into the account written on your form, so copy the account holder’s name, account number, IFSC, bank and branch from your passbook. HSFC is not responsible if a wrong detail blocks the refund.
Typed form, sealed envelope, ordinary post: reaching HSFC by 8 November 2026
This recruitment has no online form. Page 12 says electronic applications will not be considered, and page 11 says forms delivered by hand or e-mail are also rejected.
- Download Annexure-I from ISRO’s recruitment page. Type it neatly. A handwritten form is rejected, and no column may be left blank.
- Paste a colour photo of 7 cm height and 5 cm width, no more than 6 months old. Use a plain or white background and a full front view of the face. Selfies and black and white photos are rejected.
- Sign in blue ink in the box below the photo.
- Attach copies of your MBBS and MD certificates, mark lists, experience and age proof, and the BharatKosh receipt. Missing documents mean rejection.
- Use a sealed envelope marked “APPLICATION TO THE POST OF MEDICAL OFFICER – SD, POST CODE NO: __”, with your post code filled in.
- Send it by ordinary post to: Administrative Officer, Recruitment Section, Human Space Flight Centre (HSFC), ISRO, Department of Space, Doddannekundi, Bengaluru, Karnataka 560037.
The form must reach HSFC by 8 November 2026. HSFC is not responsible for postal delays and will not track your letter, so post it well before the date. After the form arrives, HSFC e-mails a registration number to you as an acknowledgement. If you send two forms for the same code, only the last one received before the closing date is considered.
Page 7 says: “Applications received through any other mode, other than ORDINARY POST, will not be entertained.” So use ordinary post, and do not rely on speed post or courier. For doubts, HSFC lists 080 61458846, 080 61458864 and rmt-hsfc@isro.gov.in.
Screening and an interview decide HSFC Medical Officer selection
There is no written test. HSFC first screens the forms and then calls a shortlist for a personal interview. Meeting the minimum qualification does not guarantee a call. Final selection depends on the interview alone. You may take the interview in Hindi.
All interview messages, including the e-admit card, come by e-mail or on the HSFC website. Give an e-mail address you check often. Bring these to the interview:
- All educational certificates in original.
- A government photo ID in original (not a photocopy or scan).
- A printed copy of the e-admit card (a phone copy is not allowed).
- A No Objection Certificate in original, if you work for a central or state government, a public sector company (PSU) or an autonomous body. Without it, you will not be interviewed.
Outstation candidates who clear the document check get travel fare. This is second class rail fare, non-AC bus fare or the actual fare, whichever is lowest, by the shortest route. Selected doctors join after a medical authority finds them fit.
HSFC Medical Officer salary: basic pay plus a 20% non-practising allowance
Page 6 gives the pay as Level 11 of the pay matrix (Rs 67,700 to Rs 2,08,700 a month). On top comes a Non-Practising Allowance (NPA) of 20% of basic pay, plus other allowances.
- 20% NPA on Rs 67,700 is Rs 13,540.
- Basic pay plus NPA is Rs 81,240 a month. This is our sum of the two official figures.
Dearness Allowance (DA, a cost-of-living addition), House Rent Allowance (HRA) and Transport Allowance are paid on top, under the current rules. We have not estimated take-home pay, because those rates depend on the city and on the DA order in force when you join. Staff come under the National Pension System or the Unified Pension Scheme.
Pages 6 and 7 also list quarters in place of HRA, medical cover for you and your dependants, a subsidised canteen, LTC (leave travel concession) and a house building advance. Promotion is reviewed on merit at set intervals, even when no higher post is vacant.
AIIMS Bhopal faculty posts and ISRO’s LPSC drive
For engineers, see our page on ISRO’s LPSC Scientist and Engineer recruitment. Medical faculty can compare this post with the AIIMS Bhopal Assistant Professor openings. For more, see health sector government jobs, jobs for postgraduates and all-India government jobs.
After your envelope reaches HSFC, a registration number is sent to your registered e-mail ID. Page 9 says it may be treated as an acknowledgement that your form arrived, and page 15 points candidates to www.hsfc.gov.in and careers.hsfc.gov.in for status updates. Post the form well before 8 November 2026.
