On this page
A Maharatna oil company is hiring freshers as officers, and the starting package is close to 11 lakh a year. The rest are for experienced professionals. Applications are open from 1 July to 20 July 2026, and here is exactly what a fresher should know.

116 Posts, But 54 Are for Freshers
It helps to see how the advert is built, because most of it is not for entry-level candidates. Of the 116 posts, 62 are experienced roles such as Senior Officer (Sales), Projects managers and various senior manager and general manager grades, all needing 2 to 24 years of experience. The 54 that a fresher can actually apply for are the Junior Executive posts, split as 37 in Chemical and 17 in Fire and Safety. If you are a fresh diploma or graduate candidate, these 54 are your target, and the rest of the notification does not apply to you.
The Two Fresher Posts and Who Qualifies
- Junior Executive (Chemical), 37 posts: needs a 3-year full-time regular Diploma in Chemical Engineering. Note this is a diploma post, not a B.Sc or B.Tech role. The minimum aggregate is 65% for General, OBC-NC and EWS, and 55% for SC, ST and PwBD, with no rounding of 64.99% up to 65%.
- Junior Executive (Fire and Safety), 17 posts: needs all three of a science graduate degree, a Diploma in Fire and Safety, and a valid heavy vehicle driving licence. The same 65% and 55% marks rule applies. This role also has a physical fitness test later, covering work-at-height, endurance and agility.
- Age: maximum 25 years as on 20 July 2026, with the usual relaxations (5 years for SC/ST, 3 for OBC-NC, and more for PwD).
Selection Is HPCL’s Own CBT, Not GATE
This is worth clearing up, because HPCL’s engineer entries sometimes use a GATE score. This one does not. Selection runs on HPCL’s own Computer Based Test, followed by stages that can include a group task, a psychometric assessment, a skill test and a personal interview, plus the physical fitness test for Fire and Safety and a pre-employment medical. The CBT has two parts: a general aptitude section (English, quantitative aptitude and logical reasoning) and a technical section based on your qualifying diploma or degree. The exam is tentatively in August or September 2026, and the syllabus will be posted on the HPCL careers page.
Pay: Around 11 Lakh CTC to Start
The Junior Executive grade is a pay scale of ₹30,000 to ₹1,20,000, and HPCL puts the approximate cost to company at about ₹10.99 lakh a year, with induction at the minimum of the scale. There is a one-year probation and a three-year service bond. For a fresh diploma or graduate candidate, an officer-grade role at a Maharatna oil PSU at this package is a strong start, which is why these posts draw heavy competition despite the small numbers.
Fee, Age and Key Dates
The application fee is ₹1,180 (a ₹1,000 base plus 18% GST) for General, OBC-NC and EWS candidates, while SC, ST and PwBD candidates are exempt and pay nothing. All eligibility, including age and qualification, is computed as on the last date of 20 July 2026, so measure yourself against that date. The application window runs from 1 July, 4:00 PM, to 20 July 2026, 3:00 PM, and the fee is paid as part of the online submission.
How to Apply

- Fill your details and upload documents, then pay the ₹1,180 fee online if you are in a paying category.

Is It Worth Applying?
For a Chemical diploma holder or a science graduate with a fire-and-safety diploma, yes, clearly: this is a rare fresher entry into an officer grade at a Maharatna oil company, at around 11 lakh a year, decided on an exam you can prepare for. The honest caveats are that only 54 of the 116 posts are open to freshers, the marks bar is a firm 65% (55% for reserved), and the competition is heavy. If you meet the eligibility, the date to act on is 20 July 2026.
