Only candidates with a benchmark disability (a certified disability of 40% or more) can apply for the 11 posts in the GSSSB Staff Nurse PwD Recruitment 2026, Advertisement No. 462/202627. The Gujarat Subordinate Service Selection Board (GSSSB) runs it as a special recruitment drive. The Class-3 nursing posts are in the Office of the Director, Employees’ State Insurance Scheme (ESIS), under Gujarat’s Health and Family Welfare Department. Applications go through OJAS (Online Job Application System), Gujarat’s recruitment website. The form went live at 2 PM on 15 October, and the last time to submit is 11:59 PM on 29 October 2026. The Rs 400 fee must be paid by 1 November 2026. A B.Sc. Nursing degree or a General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) diploma is required, and the starting pay is a fixed Rs 40,800 a month.

GSSSB papers behind this guide: GSSSB’s 21-page Gujarati detailed instructions for Advt 462/202627, Staff Nurse (PwD special drive) (PDF), dated 15 October 2026. Its nursing qualification and Paper I syllabus are printed in English. You apply only on the OJAS portal; GSSSB puts its notices on the GSSSB website. On 16 October 2026 the OJAS portal still gave 29 October 2026 as the closing date for Advt 462/202627, and showed no corrigendum or date extension.

Low vision, movement and learning disabilities qualify for the 11 ESIS nurse posts

Disability group Types the notice accepts Posts
A: blindness or low vision Low vision (40% to 70%) only 4
B: deaf or hard of hearing None listed 0
C: movement disability and related One leg, cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victim, both arms, both legs, spinal deformity, spinal injury (without other nerve or limb problems) 4
D and E: autism, intellectual disability, learning disability, mental illness, multiple disabilities Specific learning disability (40% to 100%), mental illness (40% to 100%), multiple disabilities 3
Total 11

Group B has no post this time, so a candidate whose only disability is deafness or hard of hearing cannot apply. Multiple disabilities, which the notice says include deaf-blindness, fall under group D and E. Paragraph 5 allows only the disability types listed against a group that has posts.

Your disability must be certified in Form V, VI or VII, the formats set by the disability rules of 2017. Candidates with both arms or both legs affected must be able to move about and work like others, with or without an artificial limb. After the written exam, a medical board gives an opinion, and the department then decides if they are fit for the post.

A post that finds no suitable candidate in its group is carried forward to the next recruitment. The notice also warns that the number of posts may change.

No category, women’s or ex-servicemen quota inside this Advt 462 drive

As a drive to fill posts already reserved for disabled people, the 11 posts are not split by category. There are no separate posts for women or ex-servicemen either. You still apply in your own category, and selected candidates are later adjusted against SC, ST, SEBC (Socially and Educationally Backward Classes) or EWS (Economically Weaker Sections) posts. Only original residents of Gujarat count in those categories; others are treated as General.

Reserved-category status also decides your age relaxation, so the certificate dates matter:

  • SEBC: a non-creamy layer certificate, showing family income below the limit, in the Gujarati format dated 1 April 2024 to 29 October 2026. The central format dated 1 April 2026 to 29 October 2026 also counts. A married woman must use her parents’ income; one based on her husband’s income gets the form rejected.
  • EWS: the state certificate dated 30 October 2023 to 29 October 2026, or the central Income and Asset Certificate dated 1 April 2026 to 29 October 2026.

Without a valid certificate, you compete as a General category disabled candidate.

Who qualifies for the ESIS Staff Nurse posts: a B.Sc. Nursing or GNM, and council registration

The recruitment rules quoted on page 5 ask for one of these:

  • a B.Sc. (Nursing) degree from a recognised university, recognised by the Gujarat Nursing Council or the Indian Nursing Council; or
  • a diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) from an institution recognised by either council.

Basic computer knowledge and adequate Gujarati or Hindi are also required. Anyone not yet registered with the Gujarat Nursing Council has to register before appointment. All conditions are judged as on 29 October 2026.

Every applicant here can be as old as 45

Applicant Extra years Upper age
General category man 10 45
General category woman 15 45
Reserved category man 15 45
Reserved category woman 20 45

The base rule is 18 to 35 on 29 October 2026. Disabled candidates get at least 10 extra years, subject to the medical certificate, and every row stops at 45. So in practice the upper limit is 45 for other applicants. The notice adds that the upper age limit may be relaxed for people already in Gujarat government service, under the 1967 rules.

Starting pay of Rs 40,800 and the move to the regular Level 5 scale

For the first five years you draw a fixed Rs 40,800 a month, plus the benefits allowed by state Finance Department resolutions. If your work in those five years is rated satisfactory, you can move to a regular post. Its scale is Rs 29,200 to Rs 92,300, Level 5 of the 7th Pay Commission. That move is subject to the Supreme Court’s ruling in SLP No. 14124/2012 and No. 14125/2012. The OJAS page lists “Probation 5 years”. The notice gives no allowance rates, so we cannot work out the in-hand salary.

A Nursing paper and a Gujarati paper, 100 marks each, both counted for merit

Paper Topics and marks Time and language
Paper I: Nursing Fundamentals of nursing 20, medical surgical nursing 20, midwifery and paediatric nursing 20, mental health and psychiatric nursing 20, community health nursing 20 2 hours; Gujarati or English
Paper II: Gujarati Language 30, grammar 40, literature 30 2 hours; Gujarati only

Both papers are multiple-choice, with 1 mark per question and 0.25 marks lost for each wrong answer. A score of 40% is needed in each paper. The merit list then uses the total of both, so the Gujarati paper counts as much as the nursing paper. The detailed Gujarati syllabus is to be posted later on the board’s website. Roughly two candidates per post are then called for document checks.

Disabled candidates who find writing hard can ask for a scribe or for 20 minutes of extra time per hour. The request form, with certificates, must reach so-kh1-gsssb@gujarat.gov.in at least two days before the exam; late requests are not considered. Candidates with blindness, or with both arms affected, need only the disability certificate. Others also need a doctor’s certificate about their difficulty in writing.

Rs 400 fee for Advt 462, not refunded even if you sit the exam

Every applicant pays Rs 400, the reserved-category rate for disabled candidates. Payment is online only, by debit card, net banking, UPI or a wallet, with transaction charges on top, and no late fee is accepted.

The notice says plainly that the fee “shall not be refunded to those candidates who appear for the examination”. It is also kept if your form is rejected, or if you pay on more than one form. GSSSB’s Work Assistant notice of the same week takes the opposite line and refunds the fee to those who appear.

Six steps to apply, from registration to paying Rs 400

  1. If you have no OJAS One Time Registration (OTR) yet, create one first.
  2. Under Online Application, pick GSSSB and the Staff Nurse (PwD SRD) post. PwD means persons with disabilities, and SRD means special recruitment drive. Sign in using your OTR number and date of birth.
  3. Enter your Class 10 details, a bank account with a scan of the passbook’s front page, and your education. State your disability group and percentage.
  4. Add a photo on a white background, sized 5 cm by 3.6 cm, with the date of the photo printed on it. That date must be no more than one year before 29 October 2026. Add your signature at 2.5 cm by 7.5 cm; both files are JPGs up to 15 KB.
  5. Click “Confirm Application” and write down the confirmation number, because the form is locked once you confirm. To correct a mistake, file a fresh form before the last date and pay on the new confirmation number.
  6. Pay Rs 400 by 1 November 2026 and keep the receipt. If no receipt is generated, the fee is not treated as paid and the form is not valid.

Questions on eligibility or payment can go to the board on 079-23258916.
