The DU Assistant recruitment 2026 has no fixed last date. It closes on 9 November 2026, or two weeks after the Employment News carries the advertisement, whichever is later. The University of Delhi (DU) lists 46 Senior Assistant and 80 Assistant posts in Advt. No. R&P/323/2026 of 19 October 2026. They are for graduates who already have office experience: three years for Senior Assistant and two years for Assistant. The online application link is now live on DU’s Advt 323 page. The upper age limit is 35 years for Senior Assistant and 32 years for Assistant, counted on the closing date.

DU papers this page is built on: Advertisement No. R&P/323/2026 of 19 October 2026, issued by the Registrar, University of Delhi. DU put it up as five short PDFs. They are the newspaper advertisement, the vacancy table (PDF), the qualifications, an 8-page exam scheme and 5 pages of general instructions. All five are linked from the Advt 323 page on the DU website. We checked again on 26 October 2026. The five PDFs were unchanged, the page now carried an “Online Application link”, and DU had posted no addendum or corrigendum for Advt 323. DU’s “Work with DU” list showed 09.11.2026 as the last date of submission.

Why the Advt 323 closing date is not one fixed day

Most notices give a single last date. This one gives a rule instead. It is printed on page 1 of the newspaper advertisement and on page 1 of the vacancy PDF. Both say the last date is “09.11.2026 or within two weeks from the date of publication of the advertisement in the Employment News, whichever is later.”

DU’s own “Work with DU” list shows only 09.11.2026 in its last date column. So 9 November 2026 is the earliest possible closing date. By our count, the date moves only if the Employment News prints the advertisement after 26 October 2026. The window then runs for two weeks from that day. The DU papers do not say which Employment News issue will carry it, and we could not confirm the issue date.

Two other rules depend on the closing date. Your degree and experience must be complete by then. Your upper age is also counted on that day, so a later closing date also means your age is counted later. The safe plan is to apply by 9 November 2026. If you plan to apply after that day, first confirm the final date on the DU website. The notice gives no phone helpline. Its only contact is the e-mail non_teaching_rec@admin.du.ac.in (General Instructions, page 5), which DU gives for technical problems with the form.

DU Assistant recruitment 2026: 80 Level 4 posts and 46 Level 6 posts

Together the two posts add up to 126 vacancies. The vacancy table splits each post by category. PwBD means Persons with Benchmark Disability. UR is unreserved, and EWS means Economically Weaker Sections. Level 4 and Level 6 are pay levels, explained in the next section. The PwBD seats are counted inside the category totals, not added on top.

Post (code) Pay Level UR SC ST OBC EWS Total
Senior Assistant (ND0601) Level 6 21 6 3 12 4 46
Assistant (ND0401) Level 4 35 11 6 21 7 80

Within these totals, the Senior Assistant post keeps 1 seat for an LD candidate and 1 for an HI candidate. The Assistant post keeps 1 for LD, 2 for HI and 1 for OBD. HI means hearing impairment. The table does not spell out LD and OBD. A PwBD candidate of any category may apply for these seats. If a PwBD seat is not filled, one unreserved seat is kept vacant.

The advertisement also says the number of posts may go up or down, and DU may not fill some or all of them.

Pay Level 6 and Level 4 under the 7th Pay Commission

A Pay Level is one of the levels in the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC) pay matrix. Each level has a fixed starting basic pay. The Senior Assistant post is at Level 6 and the Assistant post is at Level 4.

Only the level numbers are given, not the rupee figures. They only say the posts carry the “admissible scale plus admissible allowances”. We have not estimated in-hand pay, because DU has not published its own pay figures for these posts.

Three years at Level 4 for Senior Assistant, two years for Assistant

A bachelor’s degree from a recognised university is the base qualification for both posts. The experience rule is what decides most applications.

  • Senior Assistant: three years as an Assistant, or an equivalent post, at Level 4. The experience can be from central or state government, a university, a public sector undertaking (PSU), or a central or state autonomous body. You should also know computer applications, noting and drafting.
  • Assistant: two years as a Junior Assistant or an equivalent post. The experience can be from a university, a research body, central or state government, a PSU or an autonomous body. You also need English typing at 35 words per minute (wpm) or Hindi typing at 30 words per minute.

Private sector experience also counts, but only if you were on an “equivalent pay package” in a reputed private company or a corporate bank. That company must have a yearly turnover of at least Rs 200 crore. Keep a turnover proof and your salary papers ready, because DU checks documents later.

The general instructions say you must hold the qualification and the experience on the closing date of the application.

Upper age 35 and 32, with exemptions for some DU staff

The age limit is 35 years for Senior Assistant and 32 years for Assistant. No lower age limit is given. Age is counted on the closing date of the advertisement.

The upper limit is relaxed for SC, ST, OBC (central list), persons with disabilities and ex-servicemen, as per central government orders adopted by DU. How many years each category gets is not printed.

Three more age rules are specific to this notice:

  • Regular service of at least three years in the same or an allied field brings extra years. It can be in a government department, a statutory or autonomous body, a university, a college affiliated to or part of the University, or a PSU. You get five years or your number of completed years of service, whichever is less. Contract and daily-wage service does not count as regular service here.
  • Departmental candidates of the University and its colleges have no upper age limit.
  • Some people already work in DU or its colleges on contract, daily wages or ad hoc basis. If they have at least one year of service, they get a one-time exemption from the upper age limit. This does not cover project staff or staff hired through outsourcing agencies.

Advt 323 fee: Rs 1,000, Rs 800 or Rs 600, and free if you applied for these posts under Advt 311

Category Fee
General (Unreserved) Rs 1,000
OBC non-creamy layer (NCL), EWS and women Rs 800
SC, ST and PwBD Rs 600

The fee is not refunded in any case. A form without the fee is rejected.

There is one exemption. If you applied for Senior Assistant or Assistant under DU’s earlier Advt. No. R&P/311/2024 of 12 December 2024, you do not pay a fee this time. Keep your old application number or receipt ready in case the form asks for it.

Nothing in the notice says whether one person can apply for both posts, or whether the fee is charged per post. Check this on the application form before you pay.

OBC certificate from 1 April 2026 and EWS certificate by the closing date

  • OBC (NCL): the certificate must be issued on or after 1 April 2026, in the central government format. Your caste and sub-caste must be on the central OBC list. DU says the certificate should be digitally verifiable.
  • EWS: the Income and Asset Certificate must be issued on or before the last date of the online form, and not before 1 April 2026.
  • PwBD: you need at least 40% disability, and the disability certificate must be uploaded with the form.
  • Government and PSU employees: a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from your employer is needed at document verification, or when DU asks you to upload it.

Prelims for shortlisting, a 200-mark written Main, then a typing or office skill test

Both posts follow the same two-stage plan. All three papers are set in English and Hindi. You can answer in either language, but you must use the same one throughout.

Stage Format Marks and time Counts for merit?
Preliminary test 100 multiple-choice questions 200 marks, 2 hours 30 minutes No, shortlisting only
Examination (Main) Descriptive (written answers) 200 marks, 2 hours Yes, merit is drawn from this paper
Skill test Office and computer skills 100 marks, pass mark 50 No, qualifying only

The preliminary paper has 20 questions each on general knowledge (general studies for Assistant), reasoning and mathematics. The other 40 questions cover how higher education institutions are run, including the Act, Statutes and Ordinances of the University of Delhi. Each question carries 2 marks, and 0.5 mark is cut for each wrong answer.

The pass mark in the preliminary test is not a fixed number. It is half of the average score of the top 5% of candidates who sit the test. SC and ST candidates get 5% relief on this cut-off and PwBD candidates get 10%.

The Main paper tests educational administration and management, budgets, and the use of technology in universities. It also covers service rules: Fundamental Rules, Supplementary Rules, General Financial Rules, buying through GeM (the government’s online market), pensions and grievance handling.

The Assistant skill test covers office procedure, noting and drafting, and computer work. It also has typing at 35 wpm in English or 30 wpm in Hindi. Senior Assistant candidates are tested on running an office unit, office procedure, IT and noting and drafting.

About 705 and 1,215 candidates to reach the Main exam

DU states its shortlisting formula: 30 candidates for one post, plus 15 more for each extra post. By that formula, our count is about 705 candidates for the 46 Senior Assistant posts and about 1,215 for the 80 Assistant posts. Everyone who ties at the cut-off mark also goes through. The real number can differ, for example if fewer people clear the qualifying mark.

In our reading, clearing the pass mark is not enough on its own. You also need to rank high enough to get one of these places.

Up to 10 bonus marks for DU contract, ad hoc and temporary staff

This rule is for employees working in DU or its colleges on a contract, ad hoc or temporary basis as on 25 March 2021. They get one extra mark for each year of service, up to 10 marks. These marks are added in the preliminary test. They are added again to the score used for the final merit list.

Visually impaired candidates, candidates with cerebral palsy and similarly placed PwBD candidates get 20 extra minutes for every hour of a paper. DU does not pay travel allowance for the written test or skill test.

Post code ND0601 or ND0401, and an e-mail you check daily

  1. Open the Advt 323 page on the DU website under “Work with DU” and use the “Online Application link” given there.
  2. Note the post code you are applying for: ND0601 for Senior Assistant or ND0401 for Assistant.
  3. Before you start, collect your experience certificates with the employer, post, pay level and dates. Private sector applicants should also keep proof of the company’s turnover. We could not see the form itself, so check which fields it asks for.
  4. Upload the PwBD certificate if you claim a PwBD seat. Keep your OBC or EWS certificate ready, issued within the dates given above.
  5. Pay the fee for your category, unless you applied for Senior Assistant or Assistant under Advt 311/2024.
  6. Use an e-mail address you check often. DU sends all letters only by e-mail.

DU accepts every form provisionally and checks documents at a later stage. If a claim turns out to be wrong, the candidature can be cancelled at any stage, even after an appointment letter. For a technical problem with the form, DU gives the e-mail address non_teaching_rec@admin.du.ac.in.

Advt 311/2024 and five other points DU has yet to clarify

  • The final closing date. DU’s list shows 09.11.2026, but the Employment News rule in the advertisement can push it later.
  • The closing time on the last day.
  • The rupee pay range for Level 6 and Level 4.
  • Dates for the preliminary test, Main exam and skill test.
  • Whether one person may apply for both posts, and how the fee works in that case.
  • What happened to the Senior Assistant and Assistant recruitment under Advt 311/2024. Advt 323 only mentions it for the fee exemption.

Beyond DU’s 126 posts: Supreme Court JCA and DSSSB court jobs that test typing

Graduates with typing speed can also look at the Supreme Court Junior Court Assistant recruitment. It asks for English typing at 35 wpm and closes on 28 October 2026. The DSSSB Delhi District Courts posts under Advt 04/2026 include Junior Judicial Assistant for graduates with 40 wpm typing.
