JKSSB JE Mechanical Recruitment 2026: 127 PWD (R&B) Posts in Advt 10 of 2026
On this page
The Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) has notified 127 posts of Junior Engineer (Mechanical). They are in the Public Works (Roads and Buildings) Department. This is JKSSB JE Mechanical Recruitment 2026, issued as Advertisement Notification No. 10 of 2026 on 21 October 2026. The online form is set to run from 16 November 2026 to 15 December 2026. You need a three-year diploma or a degree in Mechanical Engineering, or AMIE Sections A and B. You must also hold a Jammu and Kashmir domicile certificate. The post is at Pay Level 6 of the government pay matrix, starting at Rs 35,400 basic pay a month.
JKSSB JE Mechanical Recruitment 2026: Open Merit gets 51 of the 127 seats
All 127 posts sit under Item No. 265 in Annexure-A on page 14. The annexure lists the cadre as UT (Union Territory). The appointing department is Public Works (R&B).
| Category | Posts |
|---|---|
| OM (Open Merit) | 51 |
| SC (Scheduled Castes) | 10 |
| ST-1 (Scheduled Tribes, group 1) | 13 |
| ST-2 (Scheduled Tribes, group 2) | 13 |
| OBC (Other Backward Classes) | 10 |
| ALC/IB (areas near the Line of Actual Control or International Border) | 5 |
| RBA (Residents of Backward Areas) | 13 |
| EWS (Economically Weaker Sections) | 12 |
| Total | 127 |
Paragraph 3 warns that the number of posts may go up or down before the final list. The notice is also subject to the outcome of any writ petition or O.A. pending before a court. The annexure does not print a separate count for ex-servicemen or persons with disabilities. Paragraph 7 says horizontal reservation for them applies to the extent the department conveys, or as the rules provide. A horizontal seat cuts across the categories above instead of adding to them.
Three-year Mechanical diploma, Mechanical degree or AMIE (A and B) for Item No. 265
The annexure accepts any one of these:
- a three-year Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a government-recognised institute;
- a degree in Mechanical Engineering from an Indian university;
- AMIE Section A and B.
The diploma must be a three-year course in Mechanical Engineering. Paragraph 5(e) says a candidate with any qualification other than the one prescribed is not eligible. If you hold an equivalent course, paragraph 5(d) asks for an equivalence certificate, or equivalence from the competent authority, when the Board asks. The Board’s decision on it is final.
You must have the diploma or degree in hand by 15 December 2026. That is the cut-off date. Paragraph 5(b) asks for proof that you acquired the qualification on or before it.
At document verification (DV), the stage where the Board checks your originals, bring the original of every document plus a self-attested photocopy of each, and of your online form. Paragraph 14(c) says a candidate who misses DV, or cannot show the originals that day, is not considered for selection.
Did you get your degree from a university, college or institute outside Jammu and Kashmir, other than a Central University? Then DV needs one more paper. Paragraph 14(j) asks for a Bonafide Certificate in the Board’s format, issued by the Controller or Registrar of the university.
Age on 1 January 2026, papers on 15 December 2026: the Advt 10 of 2026 date gap
This notice uses two different dates. Age is counted on 1 January 2026. The qualification, domicile and category certificates are counted on 15 December 2026.
| Category | Upper age limit | Date of birth allowed |
|---|---|---|
| OM | 40 | 1 January 1986 to 1 January 2008 |
| SC, ST-1, ST-2, RBA, ALC/IB, EWS and OBC | 43 | 1 January 1983 to 1 January 2008 |
| Physically challenged | 42 | 1 January 1984 to 1 January 2008 |
Both end dates are included. So an OM candidate born on 1 January 1986 can apply, and one born on 31 December 1985 cannot. Nobody born after 1 January 2008 can apply.
Ex-servicemen get a different test. You subtract your years in the armed forces from your actual age. If the result is no more than 3 years above the maximum age limit for the post, you meet the age rule.
To claim a higher limit, your category certificate must be valid on 15 December 2026. If it is not, paragraph 14(g) says your claim is not accepted and you are considered under Open Merit.
Jammu and Kashmir domicile certificate needed by 15 December 2026
Paragraph 2 limits these posts to domiciles of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. You need a valid domicile certificate, in the prescribed format, issued on or before the last date of the form. Paragraph 14(h) says you must show the original at DV, and it must be valid up to the cut-off date.
No fee cut for OBC, RBA or ALC/IB under Advt 10 of 2026
The fee is Rs 600. It drops to Rs 500 only for SC, ST-1, ST-2, EWS and PwBD (persons with benchmark disabilities) candidates. OBC, RBA and ALC/IB candidates are not on the Rs 500 list, so they pay Rs 600, like Open Merit candidates. Ex-servicemen are not named in the Rs 500 list either.
You can pay only online, by net banking or a bank card. A form without the fee is rejected. The fee is not refunded in any case, and it is not moved to another exam. For any excess payment, the notice asks you to seek a refund only through the Board’s official grievance e-mail. It says no chargeback request will be entertained.
Written/OMR marks alone rank the 127 JE Mechanical candidates
The annexure says selection is made “on the basis of merit obtained in the written/OMR examination only”. OMR is a printed answer sheet where you shade bubbles. The notice names no interview or skill test. Your merit in the written/OMR examination decides who is selected, subject to DV.
- All questions are objective, multiple-choice.
- Questions are set in English only.
- Each wrong answer costs one-fourth of the marks for that question.
- The syllabus, the number of questions and the time allowed are not in this notice. Paragraph 11 says the syllabus will be notified separately.
- The exam date and centres will also be notified later on jkssb.nic.in.
Level 6 basic pay of Rs 35,400 for a JE Mechanical in PWD (R&B)
Annexure-A gives the pay as Level-6 (35400-112400). A pay level is one step of the government pay matrix. Level 6 starts at Rs 35,400 basic pay a month, and its range goes up to Rs 1,12,400.
Your salary will also include DA (Dearness Allowance) and other allowances under Jammu and Kashmir government rules. This notice does not print them. We have not estimated the take-home amount, because the notice gives only the basic pay range.
Ex-servicemen quota up to Level-6E, and scribe rules for PwBD candidates
Paragraph 7(d) applies the ex-servicemen horizontal reservation to posts with pay up to Level-6E (35900-113500). This post is Level-6 (35400-112400), and both its figures are lower than those of Level-6E. The count of ex-servicemen seats is not printed.
- An ex-serviceman who already joined a job using this reservation cannot use it again (S.O. 361 of 2021). You must give an affidavit sworn before a First Class Judicial Magistrate at document scrutiny.
- The ex-serviceman certificate must be in Form XIV under Rule 18 of the J&K Reservation Rules, 2005.
- PwBD candidates can ask for a scribe, 20 extra minutes per hour of the exam, or both. You must have applied as a PwBD candidate. On exam day, give the Observer the papers that apply to you. These include Annexure-B, a doctor’s certificate on your limitation to write. If you use a scribe, also give Annexure-C, an undertaking.
- You bring your own scribe. The scribe must be studying at a lower level than you and must not hold more than the minimum qualification for this post.
A 10 KB to 20 KB signature and 200 KB PDFs: uploads for Item No. 265
The notice says the portal details will be posted on the Board’s website separately. It does list what you will upload:
- a live photograph and your signature (the notice gives the size as 10 KB to 20 KB);
- your category certificate as a PDF of up to 200 KB, valid on 15 December 2026;
- your qualification certificates, self-attested, as PDF of up to 200 KB.
Paragraph 6(b) is strict. The category certificate must be uploaded with the form, and no later chance to upload any document is given. Under paragraph 6(c), a certificate in a format other than the prescribed one is not accepted.
Write your name, date of birth, father’s name and mother’s name exactly as in your Class 10 (matriculation) certificate. Once you submit, no change of any kind is allowed. A blurred photo or signature leads to rejection.
Submit only one form for Item No. 265. If you send two, the Board keeps the latest one. Sit the exam twice for the same item and your candidature is cancelled. You will also be debarred from JKSSB exams as per rules.
Order of work on the JKSSB portal, 16 November to 15 December 2026
- Have your category certificate and diploma or degree papers ready before you fill the form, since they are uploaded with it. These and the domicile certificate must be valid on or before 15 December 2026.

Paragraph 17(n) says a candidate without the original ID and the photos will not be allowed to sit the exam.
Mobile phones are banned even when switched off. So are smart watches, smart glasses, AI-enabled devices and Bluetooth devices. The venue has no place to keep bags. Expect frisking, metal detectors, biometric capture and face checks. No travel allowance is paid for the exam or for DV.
JKSSB MTS, Advt 08 and Advt 04: the Board’s other 2026 notices
JKSSB’s Class 10 posts for Multi Tasking Staff and Sanitation Workers have a separate form. See JKSSB MTS and Sanitation Worker Recruitment 2026. Two earlier 2026 JKSSB notices also took diploma holders. Their last dates, 21 July 2026 and 24 October 2026, have passed. One was JKSSB Advt 08 of 2026 for pharmacist, nurse and other posts.
