Gujarat’s Health and Family Welfare Department needs 16 Operation Theatre Assistants for its medical education and research office. The drive is GSSSB Operation Theatre Assistant Recruitment 2026 (Advt 460/202627). OJAS (Online Job Application System) is Gujarat’s job form website. The online form there runs from 15 October 2026 (2 PM) to 29 October 2026 (11:59 PM). The fee can be paid until 1 November 2026 (11:59 PM). You need a diploma or a one-year certificate in operation theatre work, or a B.Sc. in operation theatre and anaesthesia technology. The age limit is 18 to 35 on 29 October 2026. The first five years are on a fixed pay of Rs 26,000 a month.

One Gujarati notice, read in full: GSSSB’s detailed advertisement No. 460/202627 is for Operation Theatre Assistant, Class-3. It was issued in the name of the Board’s Secretary at Gandhinagar and dated 14 October 2026. It runs to 28 pages, mostly in Gujarati. The qualification clause (page 4) and the syllabus (pages 19 to 23) are in English. The tables and dates were read from page images. The Advt 460/202627 PDF opens from its OJAS advertisement page, and the Board posts updates on gsssb.gujarat.gov.in. On 23 October 2026 the GSSSB website showed no corrigendum or date extension for Advt 460/202627.

GSSSB Operation Theatre Assistant Recruitment 2026: the 16 seats by category

The posts are under the Additional Director, Medical Education and Research, in the Health and Family Welfare Department. Three seats are kept for women: 2 unreserved and 1 SEBC. The notice says the number of posts may go up or down.

Category Posts Of these, for women
Unreserved (UR) 8 2
Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC) 4 1
Scheduled Tribe (ST) 2 0
Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) 1 0
Scheduled Caste (SC) 1 0
Total 16 3

One of the 16 seats is for an ex-serviceman. The reserved seats are only for SC, ST, SEBC and EWS candidates who are original residents of Gujarat. If no eligible woman is found for a women’s seat, a man of the same category gets it. The other seats are open to men and women on merit.

No disability seats in Advt 460, because of special drive 297/202526

The notice gives 0 seats to persons with disabilities (PwD). The notice explains why: the PwD seats of this cadre were put in a separate special recruitment drive, Advt 297/202526. PwD candidates can still apply here for the general seats. The notice lists the disabilities that suit this job:

  • low vision (40% to 70%);
  • deaf or hard of hearing;
  • one leg affected, leprosy cured, cerebral palsy, dwarfism, acid attack victims, spinal deformity or spinal injury;
  • mild autism, specific learning disability (40% to 70%) or mental illness (40% to 70%);
  • multiple disabilities from the groups above.

A PwD candidate needs a disability of at least 40%, shown in a disability certificate in the format the notice names. Section 13(2) gives a PwD candidate 10 extra years, so they can be up to 45.

Diploma, one-year certificate or B.Sc. in operation theatre work: three routes into Advt 460

The qualification clause on page 4 is in English. It accepts any one of these:

  • a Diploma in Operation Theatre Techniques or Operation Theatre Technician;
  • a certificate course of at least one year in Operation Theatre Technology or Operation Theatre Technician;
  • a B.Sc. Medical Technology in Operation Theatre and Anaesthesia Technology.

The course must be from a university set up under a central or state Act. A deemed university, or an institution recognised as a university under the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act, also counts. You also need basic computer knowledge under Gujarat’s 1967 rules and enough Gujarati or Hindi, or both. The qualification clause lists no work experience.

You can apply without the computer certificate. But you must show it before you are appointed, or your selection is cancelled. A Class 10 or 12 pass with computer as a subject, or a degree or diploma with a computer subject, also counts. Every qualification, age and certificate is checked as on 29 October 2026.

What an Operation Theatre Assistant earns in year one and after year five

For the first five years you get a fixed pay of Rs 26,000 a month, with the other benefits allowed under the Finance Department’s resolutions. After five years, if your service is found satisfactory, you become eligible for regular appointment. The scale is the 7th Pay Commission’s Rs 19,900 to Rs 63,200 (Level 2). A Pay Level is a fixed band in the 7th Pay Commission pay matrix, with its own starting basic pay. The notice adds that this move is subject to the Supreme Court’s judgment in Special Leave Petition (SLP) No. 14124/2012 and 14125/2012.

The notice says the other benefits under those Finance Department resolutions also apply during the fixed-pay years. The Level 2 figure is the basic pay range only. The notice does not say what the total monthly pay will be after the switch.

Who can apply after 35: women, reserved and PwD candidates in Advt 460

Candidate Extra years Highest age allowed
Unreserved woman 5 40
Reserved category man 5 40
Reserved category woman 10 45
Unreserved PwD man 10 45
Unreserved PwD woman 15 45
Reserved PwD man 15 45
Reserved PwD woman 20 45

The upper limit may also be relaxed for those already in Gujarat government service. Ex-servicemen with at least 6 months of service, an ID card and a discharge book get their period of service plus 3 years. Those who retire within one year of 29 October 2026 may also apply. The category relaxations are only for original Gujarat residents of SC, ST, SEBC and EWS. A reserved candidate who applies for an unreserved seat gets no relaxation.

An SEBC or EWS certificate outside these dates can cost you the reserved benefit in Advt 460

An SEBC candidate needs a non-creamy layer certificate. It shows the family is not in the higher-income group barred from SEBC benefits. The Gujarati format (Appendix-4) must be issued between 1 April 2024 and 29 October 2026. The central Annexure-A format, issued between 1 April 2026 and 29 October 2026, is also accepted. A married SEBC woman must give a certificate based on her parents’ income. A certificate based on her husband’s income gets the form rejected.

An EWS candidate needs the Gujarat format (Annexure-KH or Appendix-G) issued between 30 October 2023 and 29 October 2026. The central Income and Asset Certificate issued between 1 April 2026 and 29 October 2026 is also accepted. Certificates made for Gujarat scheme benefits are not accepted. You must type the certificate number and date in the form. Without a certificate from these windows, you lose the age relaxation and are treated as a general candidate. If you are then over the general age limit, your form is cancelled.

210 questions, 120 of them on operation theatre subjects, and 40% needed in each part

There is one written test with two parts: 210 multiple-choice questions in 3 hours. It is held as a Computer Based Response Test (CBRT) or on an OMR sheet, where you fill in answer bubbles with a pen. Each wrong answer loses one quarter of that question’s marks.

  • Part A (90 marks): Reasoning and Data Interpretation 30, Quantitative Aptitude 30, Constitution of India 10, Current Affairs 10, and Comprehension 10 (5 Gujarati, 5 English).
  • Part B (120 marks): Anaesthesia Technology 20 and Applied Microbiology 20. Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology, and Healthcare and Diseases carry 15 each. Instruments and Physics, and Communication, Behaviour and Computer Applications carry 10 each.

The notice says these topic marks are a guide and the Board may change them slightly. Part B covers topics such as sterilisation with an autoclave, biomedical waste, anaesthetic agents, intubation, ECG, pulse oximetry and CPR. You need at least 40% in Part A and 40% in Part B separately, for every category. GSSSB then calls about twice the number of seats in each category for document verification, in order of total marks. Widows and some sportspersons get 5% added to their marks under Gujarat’s rules.

Part A and Part B questions come in Gujarati and English, except the comprehension parts. The exam date and call letter will be posted on gsssb.gujarat.gov.in.

The Advt 460 fee is refunded, by the mode you paid, if you appear in the exam

The fee is Rs 500 for unreserved candidates. It is Rs 400 for women of all categories and for SEBC, SC, ST, EWS, PwD and ex-servicemen candidates. GSSSB refunds the fee to those who appear in the exam, by the same mode of payment. There is no refund if you are absent or your form is rejected. Fees paid on extra forms are not refunded. For help with the form or fee, the Board’s phone number is 079-23258916.

Two other GSSSB forms close on the same day, 29 October 2026. One is the GSSSB Staff Nurse drive for disabled candidates. The other is the GSSSB Work Assistant recruitment for civil diploma holders. For more, see Gujarat government jobs, health department jobs and diploma-level government jobs.
