On this page
Candidates need 2 years of work experience after their ITI, diploma or degree for 71 of the 83 seats in SCL Recruitment 2026. The Semi-Conductor Laboratory (SCL) in S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali), Punjab, takes online forms from 1 November 2026 (11 AM) to 30 November 2026 (5 PM). There are 41 Technician ‘B’ seats for ITI holders and 30 Technical Assistant seats for diploma and B.Sc. holders. The other 12 are 7 Junior Personal Assistant seats for Class 12 pass stenographers and 5 officer seats. Freshers cannot apply for the 71 technical seats.
SCL Recruitment 2026: how the 83 posts split

| Total | 83 |
One of the two Purchase & Stores Officer seats is kept for a PwBD candidate. Of the 7 Junior Personal Assistant seats, one is kept for ESM and one for PwBD. The first posting is at SCL, S.A.S. Nagar. The notice adds that SCL may post staff anywhere in India. It also calls the posts “temporary, but likely to be continued”. Technical staff may have to work round-the-clock shifts.
41 Technician ‘B’ seats across 12 ITI trades
For each trade you need Class 10 (Matriculation or SSLC) plus a 2-year ITI in that trade. The ITI must be from an institute recognised by the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT). A National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) or National Trade Certificate (NTC) in the same trade also counts. In the tables, UR means unreserved, OBC (NCL) means Other Backward Classes (non-creamy layer) and EWS means Economically Weaker Sections.
| Trade (code) | UR | OBC (NCL) | SC | EWS | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Electronics (2606-4) | 4 | 3 | 2 | 1 | 10 |
| Electronics Mechanic (2606-5) | 3 | 2 | 2 | 1 | 8 |

| Mechanic (Diesel) (2606-12) | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 1 |
| Total | 18 | 8 | 11 | 4 | 41 |
No Technician ‘B’ seat is reserved for ST. Two seats across the trades are kept for ex-servicemen (ESM). One seat in the ICT trade is kept for a person with a benchmark disability (PwBD). These are “horizontal” seats. They sit inside the counts above and do not add to them.
30 Technical Assistant seats for diploma and B.Sc. holders
Most disciplines ask for a first class, 3-year, full-time diploma in that subject. Electronics also takes a first class B.Sc. in Electronics. Computer Science also takes a first class bachelor’s degree in Computer Application (BCA) or Computer Science. Physics and Chemistry take only a first class B.Sc. in that subject.
| Discipline (code) | UR | OBC (NCL) | SC | ST | EWS | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Electronics (2605-3) | 5 | 3 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 12 |
| Mechanical (2605-2) | 2 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 4 |
| Instrumentation (2605-4) | 2 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 4 |

| Chemistry (2605-11) | 0 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 2 |
| Electrical (2605-1) | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 |
| Computer Science (2605-5) | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 |
| Civil (2605-7) | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 1 |
| Chemical (2605-8) | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 |
| Fire & Safety (2605-9) | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 |
| Physics (2605-10) | 0 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 |
| Total | 14 | 8 | 4 | 2 | 2 | 30 |
The single PwBD seat among Technical Assistants is in Computer Science. The PwBD column on page 2 is headed BL, which means both legs affected. The only Civil seat is reserved for ST, and the only Physics seat is for OBC (NCL). So there is no unreserved (UR) seat in Civil or Physics.
SCL’s two-year experience rule for ITI, diploma and degree holders
This rule shuts out most freshers. It applies to every Technician ‘B’ trade and every Technical Assistant discipline. The notice asks for “2 years post qualification experience in R&D institute / reputed organization / Industry”. So the 2 years count only after you got the ITI, diploma or degree. Your qualification, experience and age are all checked as on 30 November 2026. That cut-off stays the same even if SCL extends the form. Your result must also be declared by 30 November 2026. A result still being processed on that day does not count.
Diploma holders should check how they studied. The notice says engineering programmes are not allowed in open and distance learning mode. The only exception is an IGNOU B.Tech. or diploma for students enrolled up to 2009-10.
The officer posts set a higher bar. A graduate needs 10 years of experience, a postgraduate 5 years, and the named MBA 2 years. The experience must be at a supervisory level. The notice defines that as at least Level 6 of the pay matrix (old Grade Pay Rs 4,200). A yearly salary package (CTC) of at least Rs 10 lakh also counts. An MBA in any other subject does not qualify. The Accounts Officer post also lists CA and ICWA, but the experience column does not say how many years a CA or ICWA needs.
The Junior Personal Assistant post asks for no experience. You need Class 12 and must pass a shorthand test: 10 minutes of dictation at 80 words a minute. You then type it on a computer in 50 minutes (English) or 65 minutes (Hindi).
27 for Technician ‘B’, 30 for Technical Assistant, 35 for SCL officers
| Post | Age limit on 30 November 2026 |
|---|---|
| Technician ‘B’ | 18 to 27 years |
| Technical Assistant | 18 to 30 years |
| Junior Personal Assistant | Not more than 25 years |
| Administrative, Accounts, Purchase & Stores Officer | Not more than 35 years |
The upper limit goes up by 5 years for SC and ST and by 3 years for OBC (non-creamy layer). For PwBD it goes up by 10 years (UR), 13 years (OBC) or 15 years (SC/ST). Ex-servicemen get 3 years after their military service is subtracted from their age. Staff of MeitY autonomous societies get 5 years for every post. For the four office posts, staff of autonomous societies under the Department of Space, DRDO and the Department of Atomic Energy also get 5 years.
Central government staff with 3 years of regular service also get relief. For Group A and B posts (officers and Technical Assistant) it is 5 years. For Group C posts (Junior Personal Assistant and Technician ‘B’) the limit becomes 40 years, or 45 years for SC and ST staff. SCL takes your date of birth only from your Class 10 certificate.
Rs 1,200 to Rs 1,500 per SCL post, with part back for some after the CBT
Every applicant pays the full fee for each post, by 30 November 2026 (5 PM). The fee has two parts. The Rs 600 processing fee is never refunded. The rest is the application fee.
| Group and posts | Processing fee (kept) | Application fee | Total you pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Group A: the three officer posts | Rs 600 | Rs 900 | Rs 1,500 |
| Group B: Technical Assistant | Rs 600 | Rs 700 | Rs 1,300 |
| Group C: Junior Personal Assistant, Technician ‘B’ | Rs 600 | Rs 600 | Rs 1,200 |
Women, SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen get the application fee back, but only if they sit the computer based test (CBT). SCL sends it to the bank account you type in the form. So enter the bank name, branch, account holder name, account number and IFSC with care. Service charges, if any, are yours to bear. Ex-servicemen who already got a civil Group C or D job through the ESM quota do not get the fee concession.
You may apply for one Technician ‘B’ trade and one Technical Assistant discipline together. That needs two forms and two fees, Rs 2,500 in all. The Technical Assistant CBT for all disciplines is in a morning session. The Technician ‘B’ CBT is in an afternoon session. Among the four office posts you may apply for only one.
Post codes 2602 and 2603 swap places on pages 15 and 24
The advertisement is not consistent on two officer codes. Four tables give SCL 2602 to the Accounts Officer and SCL 2603 to the Purchase & Stores Officer. These are the vacancy (page 1), qualification (page 4), pay (page 9) and age (page 10) tables. The fee table (page 15) and the Part B syllabus (page 24) print the opposite: 2602 for Purchase & Stores and 2603 for Accounts.
The post names and seat counts agree everywhere: 1 Accounts Officer and 2 Purchase & Stores Officers. The fee is Rs 1,500 for both. If you apply for either post, pick it by name on the form and check the code the portal shows. SCL says any addendum will appear only on its website. No addendum on this point was on the SCL careers page on 26 October 2026.
Before you apply for the Accounts Officer or Purchase & Stores Officer post, confirm the right code with SCL. Page 28 of the notice gives rectt@scl.gov.in as the e-mail for any clarification. Page 1 prints the phone number +91-9594734212. Page 28 asks every message to carry your name, date of birth, registered e-mail ID, mobile number and the name of the examination. Add your registration, application and roll numbers once you have them.
The SCL computer test: 200 questions in two hours for technical posts
All posts start with a CBT of multiple-choice questions. Each right answer gets 1 mark. Each wrong answer loses 0.25 mark.
- Part A (all posts): General English, Quantitative Aptitude, General Intelligence and Logical Ability, and General Knowledge/Current Affairs. There are 25 questions in each, 100 marks in all, in 60 minutes.
- Part B (all posts except Junior Personal Assistant): a 100-mark test on your own trade, discipline or post, in another 60 minutes. The syllabus for every trade is printed on pages 25 to 28 of the advertisement.
For Technician ‘B’ and Technical Assistant, the CBT pass mark is 50% for UR and 45% for OBC (NCL) and EWS. It is 40% for SC, ST, PwBD and ESM against reserved seats. The notice words it as “50% each in part A & part B together”. SCL then calls 5 candidates per seat in each category (at least 10) to a trade skill test. The skill test is “go-no-go”: you pass or fail, and its marks do not count. The final list goes by CBT marks among those who pass it.
The Junior Personal Assistant writes only Part A. Selection is on CBT marks, subject to passing the shorthand test. That test allows at most 10% mistakes for UR and 12% for reserved categories.
Officers write both parts, then face an interview at a 1:5 ratio. The final list weighs the CBT and the interview 60:40. For every post, if two candidates tie, SCL looks at Part B marks first, then Part A, then the older candidate, then alphabetical order.
The CBT is held in New Delhi, Chandigarh, Chennai, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Kolkata. Skill tests and interviews are only in S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) or Chandigarh. Outstation candidates called for the skill test or interview may get sleeper class train or ordinary bus fare on proof of journey. The notice says the decision to pay rests with SCL. Nothing is paid for travel to the CBT.
Rs 41,940 a month for Technician ‘B’, Rs 83,700 for Technical Assistant (SCL’s estimate)
The advertisement prints a starting basic pay and an approximate total for each post. It calls the total “approx” and “as on date”. On top of basic pay, SCL pays Dearness Allowance (DA), a cost-of-living top-up. It also pays House Rent Allowance (HRA) if you do not take SCL housing, and Transport Allowance. Staff join the National Pension System (NPS).
| Post | Starting basic pay | Approx. total a month (SCL figure) |
|---|---|---|
| Technician ‘B’ (Level 3) | Rs 21,700 | Rs 41,940 |
| Junior Personal Assistant (Level 4) | Rs 25,500 | Rs 48,780 |
| Technical Assistant (Level 7) | Rs 44,900 | Rs 83,700 |
| Officer posts (Level 10) | Rs 56,100 | Rs 1,06,740 |
SCL calls them “Total Emoluments”. The notice does not say how much is deducted from them, so they are not take-home pay. It also lists medical care for you and your dependants and a subsidised canteen. Children Education Allowance, Leave Travel Concession and advances for a computer or a house are listed too.
