State Bank of India (SBI) takes online applications for SBI Chief AI Officer 2026 and five other AI posts. Registration and fee payment are set for 19 October to 9 November 2026. Advertisement No. CRPD/SCO/2026-27/30 has 6 posts, one seat each, all unreserved (UR). They are fixed-term jobs for 3 years, which SBI may extend by 2 more years. You need an engineering, science, computer or management degree, as set for each post, and 8 to 15 or more years of experience. Age and experience are counted on 30 September 2026. The selection steps are shortlisting, an interview and pay negotiation.

Where these SBI details come from: the 18-page English advertisement No. CRPD/SCO/2026-27/30, dated Mumbai, 19 October 2026, under the designation General Manager (RP&PM). Its file name carries the date 17 October 2026. The advertisement PDF, a biodata format and a CTC negotiation form are listed on the SBI current openings page. We checked that page again on 26 October 2026. It still gave 19.10.2026 to 09.11.2026 for applying, listed no correction notice (corrigendum) for advertisement 30, and linked the same advertisement file as on 19 October. The page also carried a general line that names no single advertisement: “Application window for current running vacancies will be open on 26/10/2026.”

SBI Chief AI Officer 2026 table: age bands, experience years and CTC caps

The notice uses the short forms GM and DGM in the post names and does not spell them out. It gives pay as annual CTC (cost to company), split into fixed and variable parts. The CTC figures below are upper limits only.

Post Age on 30.09.2026 Minimum experience Annual CTC, upper range
GM & Chief AI Officer 40 to 55 15+ years, of which 3+ years in senior AI leadership Rs 160 lakh
DGM (Risk and Operational Analytics) 35 to 50 10+ years, of which 2+ years in senior leadership Rs 120 lakh
DGM (AI Governance and Compliance) 35 to 50 10+ years, of which 2+ years in senior leadership (see the mismatch below) Rs 120 lakh
DGM (Data Engineering, Model Application Dev and AI Ops) 35 to 50 10+ years, of which 2+ years in senior leadership Rs 120 lakh
AI Solution Architect 30 to 45 8 years overall, of which 3 years in AI or analytics solutioning, digital transformation, technology consulting or solution architecture Rs 90 lakh
Enterprise AI Architect 30 to 45 8 years in technology, of which 3 years in enterprise, platform, data or AI architecture, with work in large-scale AI or ML environments Rs 90 lakh

The notice says the CTC “is negotiable” and depends on your experience, your present pay and the place of posting. For the GM and DGM posts, the experience must be in banking, BFSI or information technology. BFSI is a term the notice uses without expanding it.

Preferred experience differs by post. For the GM post SBI prefers leadership in scheduled commercial banks or Fortune 500 firms. For the DGM posts it prefers scheduled commercial banks or BFSI. The AI Solution Architect should preferably come from BFSI, and the Enterprise AI Architect from BFSI or another regulated industry.

Only Indian citizens are eligible. The notice gives no age relaxation table, although it mentions certificates for anyone seeking relaxation.

Engineering, statistics, MCA or management: SBI degrees by AI post

  • GM and the three DGM posts: B.E., B.Tech or M.Tech in Computer Science, IT, Electronics, Electrical & Electronics, or Electronics & Communication (or equivalent). M.Sc (Statistics or Computer Science), MA (Statistics), M.Stat and MCA are also accepted. An MBA or PGDM in finance, and certificates in machine learning (ML), AI or natural language processing, are preferred, not required.
  • AI Solution Architect: a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, IT, data science, AI, business administration, management or a related subject. A certificate in AI solution architecture, business analysis or product management is a plus.
  • Enterprise AI Architect: a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, IT, engineering, data science, AI or an equivalent subject. TOGAF, an enterprise architecture certificate, is listed as preferred.

If your degree certificate does not name the specialisation, you need a separate certificate from the university that does.

How SBI counts your leadership years

Only experience after the basic qualification counts, and it must be full-time. Training and teaching experience does not count for any post. Years spent only as an individual contributor do not count towards the leadership years.

For the GM post, the leadership years must include working with business, operations, IT and other teams, as well as a sizeable team of analytics or AI experts. For each DGM post, the notice lists leading a sizeable team in that field and working across departments. The department lists differ by post, but all three name business, risk, IT and data.

Your experience certificate should state the nature of duties, the dates and length of service, your level or position, and your responsibilities. If you cannot get one in that form, SBI may consider any document that clearly shows the experience, duties and period claimed. That decision is at the bank’s discretion.

Three lines in advertisement 30 that do not match

  1. How many posts you may apply for. Instruction 12 on page 3 bars applying for more than one post: “Candidates are not allowed to apply for more than One post”. Instruction 14, two items below, covers anyone who applies for more than one post. It says “only the last valid (completed) application for two different posts will be retained”. A general rule on page 17 adds that for multiple applications only the last valid one is kept. The notice does not say which rule prevails. Applying for one post is the only choice that fits all three lines.
  2. Leadership years for the AI Governance DGM. Page 6 asks for “at least 2+ years” of senior leadership, and the summary table on page 2 says the same. A few lines further down page 6, the notice says individual-contributor work will not count towards “the required three years of senior leadership experience”.
  3. Yearly increment. The pay table on page 13 shows an “Annual Increment Band” of “Upto 5%”. A footnote on the same page says an increment, if any, from the second year onwards may be “upto 10% (Depending on performance)”.

One more line is hard to square with the negotiable CTC. Instruction 18 on page 3 says engagements will be made “at the starting stage of the pay scale admissible to the post”. The notice does not settle any of these points, and SBI had issued no correction notice for advertisement 30 by 26 October 2026. If any of them affects you, confirm with SBI before you apply. Page 17 asks candidates to send queries through the “CONTACT US/ Post Your Query” link on SBI’s post your query page. Page 1 also prints an email address for SBI’s Central Recruitment & Promotion Department: crpd@sbi.co.in. The notice gives no phone helpline. Instruction 6 on page 3 says every change or corrigendum will appear only on the SBI website, so check the current openings page again before you pay the fee.

Fixed term of 3 plus 2 years: pay split and variable pay

Each engagement is for 3 years. SBI may renew it for 2 more years on mutually agreed terms, but the total cannot go beyond 5 years. Either side can end the contract at any time with 3 months’ notice, or by paying 3 months’ compensation instead.

Of the CTC, 90% is fixed pay and 10% is variable pay. The variable part depends on performance. The notice gives these bands without naming the measure:

Performance band Share of variable pay paid
99% to 100% 100%
97% to 98.99% 90%
94% to 96.99% 80%
90% to 93.99% 70%
Below 90% Nil

The place of posting is Mumbai, or anywhere in India in case of an administrative need. The bank can also send you on deputation to an SBI associate or subsidiary, or to another organisation. Because pay is negotiated person by person, this page gives no take-home estimate.

A 100-mark interview, a 10-minute presentation and CTC talks

Clearing the minimum age, degree and experience rules is no promise of an interview. A committee of the bank sets the shortlisting criteria, and the bank decides how many candidates to call. Each post then has an interview of 100 marks. The GM and the three DGM candidates must also give a 10-minute presentation on their job profile, projects or milestones, as part of the interview.

SBI sets the pass mark for the interview, and only interview marks decide the merit order. Candidates tied at the cut-off are ranked “according to their age in descending order”. CTC is negotiated with each candidate, either at the interview or after the interviews end. Call letters come by email or on the SBI website, not by post. SBI decides the interview venue.

Outstation candidates who are shortlisted get air fare back for the shortest route in India. The notice does not define “outstation”. GM and DGM candidates get the actual economy fare. Architect candidates get economy fare up to Rs 15,000 for both ways, or the actual fare if lower. A candidate found ineligible at the interview is not interviewed and gets no travel refund.

SBI fee, intimation charges and the upload list, including salary proof

General, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and Other Backward Class (OBC) candidates pay Rs 750, which covers the fee and intimation charges. Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) applicants are exempt. Payment is online by card, internet banking or UPI, and any transaction charges are yours. Once paid, the Rs 750 stays with SBI: no refund, and no carry-over to another advertisement.

Registration counts only after the fee is paid. You can save the form and edit it, but only three times. After final submission and payment, nothing can be changed. The uploads are:

  • photo and signature;
  • biodata in SBI’s format, and a resume;
  • ID proof and date of birth proof;
  • mark sheets and degree certificates;
  • experience certificates;
  • caste, EWS or PwBD certificate, if it applies;
  • certificates for any preferred qualification;
  • Form-16 (your employer’s yearly tax certificate), offer letter or latest salary slip from your current employer;
  • the CTC negotiation form.

All documents except the photo and signature go in as PDFs on A4 pages, each of 500 KB or less. An application without the required documents is not considered for shortlisting.

Photo and signature sizes on the SBI portal

  • Photo: 200 x 230 pixels is the guide size and 20 KB to 50 KB the file limit. Use a recent colour passport-style picture against a light background, white if possible. Dark glasses, caps and hats are out; religious headwear is fine if the face is uncovered.
  • Signature: your own, in black ink on white paper. The guide size is 140 x 60 pixels and the file limit 10 KB to 20 KB. SBI rejects a signature written in capital letters.
  • Both files go in as JPG or JPEG, scanned at 200 dpi or more.

Serving staff: SBI wants an NOC at the interview and a discharge certificate

If you work for a government or quasi-government office, a public sector undertaking, a nationalised bank or a financial institution, bring an NOC to the interview. This is a No Objection Certificate from your employer. Without it, SBI will not consider your candidature or pay travel costs. If selected, you must produce a discharge certificate from your current employer when you join. Selection also depends on a medical fitness check, reference reports and verification of your background. You must declare any pending criminal case at the interview.

Earlier SBI specialist posts, NICL officers and banking job lists

Our banking jobs page lists other SBI and IBPS posts, and all-India government jobs are on a separate page. You can also browse jobs for graduates and jobs for post-graduates. SBI’s earlier specialist advertisement for its wealth business is covered in SBI Wealth Management SCO 2026. For a general officer post, see NICL Administrative Officer 2026.

One post, one experience letter and the two SBI forms

  1. Pick one post and confirm your age and experience on 30 September 2026 against it.
  2. Get an experience certificate that shows your duties, dates, level and responsibilities.
  3. Fill the biodata and CTC negotiation forms from the SBI page, and keep your Form-16 or salary slip ready as a PDF.
