CSIR CFTRI Technician Recruitment 2026 fills 28 posts of Technician (1) at the Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) in Mysuru, under Advertisement No. Rec.02/2026. The online form runs from 10 AM on 19 October 2026 to 11:59 PM on 18 November 2026. A signed printout of the form must then reach CFTRI by post on or before 26 November 2026. You need Class 10 with Science and at least 55% marks, plus an ITI certificate in one of 13 trades. The age limit is 18 to 28 years on 18 November 2026. The post is at Pay Level 2, which is the second step of the central government’s 7th Pay Commission pay table.

Advertisement checked for this page: CSIR-CFTRI Advertisement No. Rec.02/2026, Recruitment for the post of Technician (1), a 42-page English PDF. No issue date is printed on it. Page 24 lists the certificate formats, and pages 25 to 42 are those formats. The Technician (1) advertisement PDF is linked on the CFTRI website, and the form opens on the CFTRI recruitment portal. On 18 October 2026 the CFTRI portal listed Rec.02/2026 with the dates 19 October to 18 November 2026. The CFTRI home page said the online form opens at 10 AM on 19 October 2026. Neither page showed a correction notice or date change for Rec.02/2026.

Trade test and written exam Not announced in the notice

After 11:59 PM on 18 November 2026 the portal link is disabled. The notice says you cannot print your form after that time. It also says the last date will not be extended because of a server failure.

Fitter 6, Electronics Mechanic 7: Technician (1) posts by trade code

Each trade has its own post code. You apply under the code of your ITI trade. The category split below is printed trade by trade in the notice. All numbers are provisional, and the notice says they may go down at the time of selection.

Code Trade Posts Category split
TE01 Fitter 6 UR 2, EWS 1, SC 1, OBC (NCL) 2; 1 kept for ex-servicemen
TE02 Electronics Mechanic 7 UR 4, EWS 1, SC 1, OBC (NCL) 1; 1 for ex-servicemen, 1 for PwBD category c
TE03 Instrument Mechanic 1 OBC (NCL) 1
TE04 Laboratory Assistant (Chemical Plant) 2 UR 1, SC 1
TE05 Computer Operator and Programming Assistant (COPA) 2 UR 1, OBC (NCL) 1; 1 for PwBD category b
TE06 Information and Communication Technology System Maintenance 1 OBC (NCL) 1
TE07 Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician 2 SC 1, OBC (NCL) 1
TE08 Electrician 2 EWS 1, ST 1
TE09 Carpenter 1 UR 1
TE10 Plumber 1 EWS 1
TE11 Sheet Metal Worker 1 OBC (NCL) 1
TE12 Turner 1 EWS 1
TE13 Welder 1 OBC (NCL) 1
Total 28 UR 9, EWS 5, SC 4, ST 1, OBC (NCL) 9

The short forms in the table mean:

  • UR: Unreserved. EWS: Economically Weaker Sections. OBC (NCL): Other Backward Classes (Non-Creamy Layer).
  • PwBD: Persons with Benchmark Disabilities. Category b is deaf and hard of hearing. Category c is locomotor disability (difficulty using arms or legs).

Read your trade’s row before you pay. Only five trades have an Unreserved post: Fitter, Electronics Mechanic, Laboratory Assistant (Chemical Plant), COPA and Carpenter. In the other eight trades, every post is marked for a reserved category. Electrician, for example, has one EWS post and one ST post and nothing else.

Class 10 with Science and 55% marks comes before the ITI trade

The ITI certificate is not the only test. Your Class 10 (SSC) must be with Science subjects, and you need at least 55% marks in it. If your board gives grades or CGPA, you must convert them with your board’s own formula and upload that formula.

The notice accepts three routes for every trade. Each route starts with the same Class 10 rule:

  • Class 10 with Science and 55%, plus an ITI certificate or a National or State Trade Certificate in the trade.
  • Class 10 with Science and 55%, plus 2 years of full-time apprentice training in the trade from a recognised institution.
  • Class 10 with Science and 55%, plus 3 years of work experience in the trade. The work must be in a Ministry, Department, PSU or autonomous body of the Central government, a State or a Union Territory.

Experience counts only after you got the minimum qualification. Part-time, daily-wage and guest work does not count. Your result must be declared on or before 18 November 2026. Higher qualifications are not barred: the notice asks for copies of 12th, diploma or degree certificates “if any”, along with the essential ones.

If you claim an equivalent qualification, upload the order that makes it equivalent, or the claim may be rejected. If your trade or percentage is not clear from the marks sheet, give proof.

Meeting the minimum does not guarantee a call. A screening committee will set its own criteria and shortlist people for the trade test. So fill in every extra qualification and experience you have.

SC, ST and OBC extra years count only in trades with a reserved post (age 18 to 28)

You must be at least 18 and not more than 28 years old on 18 November 2026. The notice prints the rule only. It does not print a date-of-birth range.

The usual extra years come with one condition. Para 3(a) gives SC and ST candidates 5 extra years and OBC (NCL) candidates 3. But the notice gives them “only in respect of those cases where the posts are reserved for the respective categories”. Read against the trade-wise split above, that works out as shown below. If you apply against an Unreserved post, you get no age relaxation. SC and ST candidates still pay no fee in that case.

Category Extra years Trades where this category has a reserved post
SC 5 Fitter, Electronics Mechanic, Laboratory Assistant (Chemical Plant), Refrigeration and Air Conditioning
ST 5 Electrician only
OBC (NCL) 3 Fitter, Electronics Mechanic, Instrument Mechanic, COPA, ICT System Maintenance, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Sheet Metal Worker, Welder

Other relaxations in the notice:

  • Persons with a benchmark disability of 40% or more: 10 years (15 for SC and ST, 13 for OBC). This applies even if the trade has no PwBD post, as long as the post suits that disability. The notice lists the suitable disabilities for each trade.
  • Ex-servicemen: 3 years after the military service is deducted from your actual age.
  • Some ex-servicemen already have a regular Group C or D job through the ex-servicemen quota. They still get the age relaxation, but not the quota or the fee exemption. The notice keeps one exception: those who gave their employer a dated list of earlier applications right after joining, as DoPT rules allow.
  • Widows, divorced women and judicially separated women who have not remarried: up to 35 years (40 for SC and ST in posts reserved for them).
  • Regular government, CSIR, autonomous body or PSU staff: up to 5 years. You need 3 years of unbroken service in the same or a similar line of work. Your employer’s certificate must be issued after the date of the advertisement.
  • In a post reserved for their category, SC and ST staff can get up to 10 years in total, and OBC staff up to 8. Contract and project staff must answer “No” to the government employee question.

OBC candidates need the Central Government format certificate, not a state one. Your caste must be on the Central List. EWS status needs a family income below Rs 8 lakh and no large land or house holdings, as listed in the notice. EWS candidates need an Income and Asset Certificate valid for 2026-27, based on family income for 2025-26. Only Indian citizens can apply.

Rs 500 for each post code; no fee for women, SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen

The fee is Rs 500, paid through SBI Collect (SBI’s online fee payment page). SC, ST, PwBD, women and ex-servicemen candidates pay no fee, but they must upload proof of their claim. The fee is not refunded in any case, and a submitted form cannot be withdrawn.

You may apply for more than one trade if you are eligible for each. But each post code needs a separate application, a separate fee and a separate set of documents. If you send two forms for the same post code from different e-mail IDs, only the latest completed one is considered.

After you pay, you must enter the payment details and upload the SBI Collect e-receipt in the portal by 11:59 PM on 18 November 2026. The notice says this step is needed before the form counts as submitted.

Trade test, Mental Ability paper, then 300 merit marks in Paper-II and III

Shortlisted candidates first take a trade test in their own trade. It is qualifying only, which means its marks do not count in the final list. Those who pass the trade test sit a written exam of three papers. All questions are multiple choice. The exam may be on OMR sheets (paper where you shade a circle for each answer) or on a computer (CBT, computer based test). Questions are in English and Hindi, except the English language questions.

Paper Subject Questions Marks Time Negative marking
Paper-I (qualifying) Mental Ability Test 50 100 (2 per correct answer) 1 hour None
Paper-II General Awareness 25 75 (3 per correct answer) 30 minutes for both parts 1 mark cut per wrong answer
Paper-II English Language 25 75 (3 per correct answer) 1 mark cut per wrong answer
Paper-III Your trade subject 50 150 (3 per correct answer) 1 hour 1 mark cut per wrong answer

The Mental Ability Test covers general intelligence, quantitative aptitude, reasoning, problem solving and situational judgement. CFTRI checks Paper-II and Paper-III only for those who reach the minimum marks in Paper-I. The final merit list uses only Paper-II and Paper-III, which together carry 300 marks. The cut-off marks for the trade test and Paper-I will be put on the CFTRI website before those stages.

Paper-II gives you 30 minutes for 50 questions. That is under 40 seconds a question, so speed in General Awareness and English matters. The level of the exam is Class 10 plus ITI, or Class 12. There is no re-evaluation of scores.

If two people have the same merit marks, the tie is broken in this order:

  1. Higher marks in the trade subject paper.
  2. Fewer negative marks in the trade subject paper.
  3. Fewer negative marks in the papers used for merit.
  4. The older candidate.
  5. The one who got the essential qualification earlier.
  6. Alphabetical order of first names.

Rs 19,900 basic at Level 2, about Rs 37,260 a month by the notice’s own count

The pay range for Technician (1) is Rs 19,900 to Rs 63,200, at Level 2. New joiners start at Rs 19,900 basic pay.

For the monthly total, the advertisement prints its own figure: about Rs 37,260 at the start of the scale. That figure counts the House Rent Allowance (HRA, money towards rent) paid at the Mysuru headquarters. Dearness Allowance (DA) is a cost-of-living addition to basic pay. DA, HRA and Transport Allowance follow the central government rates, as CSIR applies them. Staff who live in official housing get no HRA.

The Rs 37,260 figure is before any cuts from salary. The advertisement does not list those cuts, so this page gives no take-home figure. For pension, new staff join the National Pension System (NPS), a scheme built from monthly contributions. Other benefits named in the notice are medical reimbursement, Leave Travel Concession and Children’s Education Allowance. Technical staff in CSIR can move up through its assessment promotion scheme.

Keep a working e-mail ID ready, because you cannot change it later. Also keep scans of your Class 10 and ITI certificates and marks sheets. Add any category, disability or experience certificates you will claim.

  1. Go to the CFTRI recruitment portal and register with your name, e-mail ID and mobile number. Your User ID and password come by e-mail and SMS.
  2. Log in and fill the profile page: gender, date of birth, category, disability, ex-serviceman and government employee status. Check it carefully. Once you lock the profile, it cannot be changed.
  3. Fill the seven tabs: Apply, Personal Details, Education, Experience, Additional details, Uploads, and Preview and Submit. Write your name, date of birth and parent’s name exactly as in your Class 10 certificate. If your name changed later, you need a Gazette notification (an official government notice of the change).
  4. Upload a photo in JPG, under 50 KB, 200 pixels high and 150 pixels wide, with a light or white background.
  5. Take the live photo. It cannot be uploaded as a file. The webcam, or your phone through a QR code, captures it when you blink. Do not wear dark glasses or a cap. The QR code works for 5 minutes only.
  6. Upload your signature in JPG, under 50 KB, 50 pixels high and 150 pixels wide. Sign on white paper, preferably in black ink. It must match your signature at the exam, or you may be disqualified.
  7. Upload documents as PDF files of up to 1 MB each. Upload each qualification as a separate PDF. Merge the passing certificate and its marks sheets into one PDF.
  8. In the form, say if any close relative works in CSIR or its labs, or is a CSIR pensioner. PwBD candidates who need a scribe (a person who writes the answers for you) must choose that option in the online form.
  9. Preview and submit. You get an Application Number. Nothing can be edited after this.
  10. If you must pay, pay Rs 500 on SBI Collect with your Application Number and post code (for example TE01). Then enter the payment details and upload the e-receipt in the portal.
  11. Download and print the submitted form before 11:59 PM on 18 November 2026.

Some applicants need a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer. This applies if you work as a regular employee in CSIR, a government department, an autonomous or statutory body, a university or a PSU. Upload the NOC with the online form. Without it, your form is not considered.

On the envelope, write “APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF Technician (1)”, your post code and “Advertisement No. Rec.02/2026”. Send it by Speed Post or Registered Post only, so that it reaches by 26 November 2026. If you apply for two trades, send two envelopes. The address is:

Recruitment Section (E-I Section), CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute, Cheluvamba Mansion (Opposite to Rail Museum), Mysuru 570020, Karnataka.

A late envelope is not accepted for any reason, including postal delay. Post it soon after you submit online.

Mysuru, Hyderabad, Mumbai or Lucknow, with transfer to any CSIR lab

Selected people work under the Director of CFTRI, at the Mysuru headquarters or at its resource centres in Hyderabad, Mumbai and Lucknow. They can also be transferred to any CSIR laboratory in India. The job is to give skilled help to the scientific and technical staff in your trade.

New staff serve a probation period (a trial period after joining). During probation, they may not apply for jobs elsewhere. The recruitment follows the CSIR Service Rules, 1994 for technical and support staff.

Trade test date, cut-offs and probation length: still to come from CFTRI

  • The dates of the trade test and the written exam are not in the advertisement.
  • The cut-off marks for the trade test and Paper-I will be published before those stages.
  • The length of probation is not stated.
  • No date of issue is printed on the advertisement.

CFTRI posts all updates, shortlists and admit cards only on its website. It does not send call letters by post. For problems with the online form, the notice gives the help desk e-mail recruitment@cftri.res.in.
