GSSSB Work Assistant Recruitment 2026: 1,663 Class-3 Posts, Civil Diploma Only

The Gujarat Subordinate Service Selection Board (GSSSB) has advertised 1,663 Class-3 posts in the GSSSB Work Assistant Recruitment 2026, Advertisement No. 461/202627. The posts are in the Central Designs Organisation, Gandhinagar, under the Narmada, Water Resources, Water Supply and Kalpsar Department. The online form on the OJAS website (ojas.gujarat.gov.in) runs from 7 PM on 15 October to 11:59 PM on 29 October 2026. Fee payment stays open until 1 November 2026. You need a civil engineering diploma, or another diploma on the department’s 23-entry equivalence list. A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering makes you ineligible. Pay is Rs 26,000 a month, fixed, for five years.

549 of the 1,663 posts in GSSSB Work Assistant Recruitment 2026 are for women

Within the total, 113 posts are for disabled candidates and 166 for ex-servicemen. Women’s posts left unfilled go to men of the same category. The other posts are open to both men and women on merit. The board says the number of posts may still change.

Reserved posts are only for candidates of those categories who are original residents of Gujarat. Candidates of these categories who are not original residents of Gujarat get neither the reservation nor the age relaxation (paragraph 10).

Civil diploma only: B.E. civil holders cannot apply for Advt 461/202627

The recruitment rule quoted on page 4 asks for a diploma in civil engineering from a technical board, university or recognised institution, or an equivalent. It then says: “the candidate holding Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering shall not be eligible to apply.”

Department resolutions of 16 April 2025 and 3 September 2026 set out a 23-entry list, which includes the plain Diploma in Civil Engineering. The other entries include:

• Civil (Construction), Construction Technology, Construction Engineering, Civil Technology, and Construction Technology and Management;
• Civil Engineering with Public Health, Environmental, Rural or Building Service Engineering, and the Environment and Pollution Control variants;
• Civil Draftsman, Survey Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Civil Engineering and Planning, and Quantity Surveying and Construction Management.

Only the diplomas on the department’s list (pages 4 and 5 of the notice) count, so check the exact name of yours there. You also need adequate Gujarati or Hindi, and basic computer knowledge.

You do not need the computer certificate to apply, but you must show it before appointment, or the selection is cancelled (paragraph 18). Accepted proof includes a computer course certificate, a degree or diploma with computer as a subject, or Class 10 or 12 passed with computer.

Rs 26,000 fixed for five years, then the Rs 25,500 to Rs 81,100 scale

Work Assistant is a Class-3 (Varg-3) post. For five years the pay stays at Rs 26,000 a month, with other benefits under Gujarat’s Finance Department resolutions. After five years of satisfactory service, you become eligible for regular appointment. The scale is Rs 25,500 to Rs 81,100 (Level 4 of the 7th Pay Commission). The notice adds that this depends on the Supreme Court’s decision in special leave petitions (SLP) No. 14124/2012 and No. 14125/2012 filed in the Supreme Court.

The OJAS page for the post shows “Probation 5 Year”; the board’s notice itself does not use the word probation. Allowance rates are not printed, so the take-home amount is unknown.

Upper age 33, or up to 45 for disabled candidates in Gujarat’s rules

All conditions are checked as on 29 October 2026. Ex-servicemen due to retire within one year of that date may also apply. Disabled candidates need a disability of at least 40%.

A married SEBC woman applying under Advt 461 needs her parents’ income certificate

An SEBC candidate needs a non-creamy layer certificate, which shows that family income is below the limit for SEBC benefits. In the Gujarati format, it must be issued between 1 April 2024 and 29 October 2026. The central government format issued between 1 April 2026 and 29 October 2026 also works. A married SEBC woman must use a certificate based on her parents’ income; one based on her husband’s income gets the form rejected.

An EWS candidate needs the state format certificate issued between 30 October 2023 and 29 October 2026. The other option is the central Income and Asset Certificate for 2025-26, issued between 1 April 2026 and 29 October 2026. A certificate made for a Gujarat welfare scheme is not accepted.

Irrigation and hydraulics weigh heavily in the 120 civil marks

There is one written test of 210 questions in 3 hours. It may be a computer-based response test (CBRT) or a paper OMR sheet where you shade bubbles. Every question carries 1 mark, and each wrong answer costs 0.25 marks.

You must score at least 40% in Part A and 40% in Part B separately. The notice says this floor is never lower for any category. In the syllabus, irrigation, water resources, hydrology and hydraulics together carry 55 of Part B’s 120 marks. The notice calls these topic-wise marks indicative, so the split may change.

After the result, about twice as many candidates as posts in each category are called for document checks, in order of total marks. Widows who have not remarried by the time of appointment get 5% of their marks added. So do candidates who represented at national or international, inter-university or all-India school level in listed sports.

OJAS passbook upload, a dated photo and Confirm Application for Advt 461

1. Complete the One Time Registration (OTR) on ojas.gujarat.gov.in if you have not done it already.
2. Choose Online Application, then GSSSB, then Work Assistant, and open the application button for the post. Log in with your registration number and birth date (“Apply with OTR”).
3. Fill in your Class 10 details. Then add your bank account and a scan of the passbook’s first page, since the fee refund goes there. Then add your education.
4. Upload a recent passport-size photo with a white background, 5 cm by 3.6 cm. Upload your signature at 2.5 cm by 7.5 cm. Each file is a JPG of up to 15 KB. The photo must show the date it was taken, no more than a year before 29 October 2026.
5. Click “Confirm Application” and note the confirmation number. No changes are possible after this.
6. Pay online by debit card, net banking, UPI or a wallet by 1 November 2026 (11:59 PM), and save the receipt.

The fee is Rs 500 for General candidates and Rs 400 for all women and for SEBC, SC, ST, EWS, disabled and ex-servicemen candidates. It is refunded to those who sit the exam, by the same payment mode. To fix a mistake after confirming, you must submit a fresh application before 29 October 2026 and pay the fee for the new confirmation number. The last confirmed form with fee is the one that counts, and fees paid on several forms are not refunded. The board’s helpline is 079-23258916.
