NICL AO Recruitment 2026 offers 321 Administrative Officer (Scale I) posts at National Insurance Company Limited (NICL), a government-owned company: 200 for Generalists and 121 for Specialists in seven fields. Online registration and fee payment run from 8 October to 28 October 2026. The Phase I exam is set for 17 November 2026 and Phase II for 22 December 2026. Graduates aged 21 to 30 on 1 October 2026 can apply. The degree needs at least 60% marks, or 55% for SC, ST and candidates with disabilities (PwBD). The starting basic pay is Rs 82,485.

What this page rests on: NICL’s 39-page detailed advertisement for 321 Administrative Officers (2026-27). It is dated 7 October 2026 and issued in the name of the Deputy General Manager, Personnel Department, Head Office, Kolkata. Pages 23 to 39 hold certificate formats, proformas and other forms. The advertisement sits in the recruitment section of NICL’s website. On 12 October 2026, that section showed no addendum or corrigendum for the AO advertisement.

NICL AO Recruitment 2026: Generalist seats and seven Specialist streams

These are officer posts in NICL’s Scale I cadre. The table joins the two tables on page 1, and its total row is our sum. UR is unreserved, OBC is other backward classes (non-creamy layer), SC and ST are Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, and EWS is the economically weaker section.

Discipline Posts UR OBC SC ST EWS
Generalist 200 80 55 30 15 20
Risk Engineers 28 13 7 3 2 3
Finance (CA and CMA) 20 10 5 2 1 2
Legal 20 10 5 2 1 2
Automobile Engineers 20 10 5 2 1 2
Agriculture 20 9 5 3 1 2
Information Technology 10 + 1 backlog 5 2 + 1 1 1 1
Company Secretaries 2 1 1 0 0 0
Total 321 138 86 43 22 32

Persons with benchmark disabilities (PwBD) have seats inside these numbers, including a few backlog seats. NICL calls all vacancies tentative. The notice also says there is no reservation for ex-servicemen in the officer cadre (page 5).

Scale I pay at NICL, and the bond and Licentiate exam that come with it

Page 3 says the starting basic pay is Rs 82,485 in the scale 82485-4050(14)-139185-4390(4)-156745. It adds that “Total emoluments will be approximately Rs. 1,14,000/- per month in Metropolitan Centres”. Pension is under the National Pension System, with gratuity, medical benefits, leave travel and company or leased housing as per company norms.

The job comes with conditions that are easy to miss:

  • Licentiate exam: you must pass the non-life Licentiate Examination of the Insurance Institute of India during probation. Probation is one year and can be extended twice by six months. If you have not passed by the end of the extended probation, you can lose the job (page 2).
  • Four-year bond: you sign an undertaking to serve at least four years, including probation. Leaving earlier means paying damages of up to one year’s gross salary, backed by a bond with two sureties who are not blood relatives (page 2).
  • Leaving or being removed during probation: you repay the gross salary received in your whole service, plus Rs 25,000 towards training cost (page 2).
  • Posting: anywhere in India. The minimum stay at the first place of posting is 5 years, though page 21 lets NICL transfer you earlier. Specialists may have to stay in their specialisation for at least 10 years. Company Secretaries are posted mainly at the Head Office in Kolkata.

Which degree fits which NICL AO discipline

You must hold every qualification in the table below on 1 October 2026, and its result must be declared on or before that date. A result declared after that date does not count (pages 3, 4 and 11).

Discipline Minimum qualification (page 3)
Generalist Graduate or postgraduate in any stream
Finance CA or CMA, plus a degree in any discipline
Legal Graduate or postgraduate in Law
Information Technology BE, BTech, ME or MTech in Computer Science or IT, or MCA
Automobile Engineers Engineering degree in Automobile, or any engineering degree plus a diploma of at least one year in Automobile Engineering
Risk Engineers Engineering degree in any branch other than those for IT and Automobile posts
Company Secretaries ACS or FCS from ICSI, plus a degree in any discipline
Agriculture Four-year graduate or postgraduate degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Biotechnology or Agricultural Engineering

Every discipline needs at least 60% in either degree, or 55% for SC, ST and PwBD candidates. NICL counts all subjects across all years or semesters, and it does not round up: 59.99% counts as below 60% (page 4).

Age window for NICL AO and the cap of 45 on combined relaxations

The age limit is 21 to 30 years on 1 October 2026. So you must be born from 2 October 1996 to 1 October 2005, both days included (page 4). Upper age relaxation:

  • SC and ST: 5 years. OBC (non-creamy layer): 3 years.
  • PwBD: 10 years (General or EWS), 13 years (OBC), 15 years (SC or ST).
  • Ex-servicemen and commissioned officers, including Emergency and Short Service Commissioned Officers, with at least five years of military service, released on the conditions in the notice: 5 years.
  • Defence personnel disabled in operations and released as a result: 3 years.
  • Confirmed employees of public sector general insurance companies, including GIC and Agriculture Insurance Company: 8 years.

NICL lets these relaxations add up “on a cumulative basis”, as long as the final upper age does not go above 45 (page 4).

Phase I, Phase II and an 80:20 interview weightage for NICL AO

Stage What it has Does it count in the final merit?
Phase I (17 November 2026) 100 marks in 60 minutes: English 30, Reasoning 35, Quantitative Aptitude 35, each with 20 minutes No, it only shortlists about 15 candidates per vacancy in each category
Phase II objective (22 December 2026) 250 marks in 3 hours Yes, 80% weight
Phase II descriptive 30 marks in 30 minutes: essay, precis and comprehension, typed in English No, qualifying only
Interview Held by NICL at select centres Yes, 20% weight, with a minimum qualifying mark

In Phase II, Generalists answer 50 questions each in Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, English and Computer Knowledge. Specialists answer 40 questions in each of those five, plus a 50-question test of their own professional field (page 8). Every section has its own time limit and its own cut-off.

A wrong answer costs a quarter of that question’s marks; a blank costs nothing. All objective tests except English are in both English and Hindi (pages 8 and 9). If two candidates tie, the one with more interview marks ranks higher, then the older one (page 11). NICL may keep a waiting list of up to half the number of vacancies.

SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer) and PwBD candidates can opt for online pre-exam training when they apply. The notice says candidates attend it at their own cost (page 15).

NICL AO fee, and the photo, signature, thumb and declaration scans

The fee, including intimation charges and GST, is Rs 1,000. SC, ST and PwBD candidates pay Rs 250, which covers intimation charges and GST. Bank charges are extra, and nothing is refunded (page 11). Payment is online by card, net banking, IMPS or wallet.

Prepare these four scans before you start (pages 15 to 17):

  1. Photo: recent colour passport-style photo, 4.5 cm x 3.5 cm, about 200 x 230 pixels, 20 KB to 50 KB, on a light background. No cap or dark glasses. You also capture a live photo by webcam or phone.
  2. Signature: black ink on white paper, about 140 x 60 pixels, 10 KB to 20 KB. Capital letters are not accepted.
  3. Left thumb impression: black or blue ink on white paper, 240 x 240 pixels at 200 DPI, 20 KB to 50 KB.
  4. Hand-written declaration: in English, in your own handwriting (not capital letters) with black ink, 800 x 400 pixels at 200 DPI, 50 KB to 100 KB. The text is printed on page 15.

Nothing can be changed after you click “Complete Registration” (pages 16 and 18). Your centre choice is final, though NICL may still allot another centre (pages 14 and 15).

What NICL says about applying twice

You may apply in only one discipline. Page 2 covers extra applications “within the same discipline or across the disciplines”, and the notice gives two different outcomes:

  • Page 2, and a line on page 20, say only your latest complete application is kept, and the fee for the others is lost.
  • Another line on page 21 says applications for more than one discipline make all your applications invalid.

Submit a single application in a single discipline, and you avoid both outcomes. The advertisement prints no helpline or query email. For difficulties with online registration, the FAQ on the IBPS application page points candidates to the “Candidate Grievance Lodging and Redressal Mechanism” link on www.ibps.in. That link opens the IBPS Candidate Grievance Redressal System.

NICL’s 2026-27 recruitment of 500 Assistants is covered on our NICL Assistant 2026 page. For another officer-level opening in finance, see the SBI Wealth Management SCO recruitment. You can also browse public sector company jobs, jobs for graduates and openings across India.
