ISRO IPRC Recruitment 2026: 22 Technician B, Technical Assistant, Cook and Fireman Posts
On this page
ITI, diploma and Class 10 holders can apply for 22 posts at the ISRO Propulsion Complex in Mahendragiri, Tamil Nadu. ISRO IPRC Recruitment 2026 covers 13 Technician ‘B’, 5 Technical Assistant, 3 Fireman ‘A’ and 1 Cook ‘A’ posts. The online form runs from 15 September to 24 October 2026 (until 5 PM), after IPRC moved the last date from 5 October. The fee can be paid until 29 October 2026 (5 PM). Technician ‘B’ needs Class 10 plus an ITI certificate from NCVT (the national vocational training council), and Technical Assistant needs a first class diploma. Fireman needs Class 10, physical standards and a medical certificate, and Cook needs Class 10 and 5 years of cooking work. Age limits are counted as on 5 October 2026 (pages 2 and 10), and the extension notice does not change that date. One point is unclear after the extension. Page 10 also uses 5 October 2026 for the qualification, but page 9 links that date to the closing date, which has moved.
ISRO IPRC Recruitment 2026 seat table: which trades have an SC, OBC or EWS seat
Each post has a code. You need a separate application, and a separate fee, for every code you choose (page 10).
| Code | Post | Posts | Category split |
|---|---|---|---|
| 60 | Technical Assistant (Automobile Engineering) | 1 | OBC 1 |
| 61 | Technical Assistant (Mechanical) | 3 | UR 1, OBC 1, ST 1 |
| 62 | Technical Assistant (Electronics & Communication) | 1 | UR 1 |
| 63 | Technician ‘B’ (Turner) | 2 | UR 1, SC 1 |
| 64 | Technician ‘B’ (Fitter) | 4 | OBC 3, EWS 1 (1 post for ex-servicemen) |
| 65 | Technician ‘B’ (Welder) | 2 | UR 1, SC 1 |
| 66 | Technician ‘B’ (Machinist) | 3 | UR 2, SC 1 (1 post for PwBD, orthopaedic) |
| 67 | Technician ‘B’ (Refrigeration & Air Conditioning) | 1 | UR 1 |
| 68 | Technician ‘B’ (Electrician) | 1 | EWS 1 |
| 70 | Cook ‘A’ | 1 | UR 1 |
| 71 | Fireman ‘A’ | 3 | UR 2, OBC 1 (1 post for ex-servicemen) |
| Total | 22 | ||
UR means unreserved. EWS is the Economically Weaker Section, and PwBD means persons with benchmark disabilities. Some codes have only one seat, and it may be reserved. For example, the only Electrician seat (code 68) is for EWS, and the only Automobile seat (code 60) is for OBC.
NCVT certificate, first class diploma and 5 years of cooking: the IPRC entry rules
- Technician ‘B’ (codes 63 to 68): Class 10 pass and an ITI in the same trade. The ITI must give a National Trade Certificate (NTC) or a National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) from NCVT, the national council for vocational training. The notice names only NCVT certificates.
- Technical Assistant (codes 60 to 62): a first class diploma. Mechanical also accepts Production Engineering. Electronics & Communication also accepts Electronics, Electronics & Telecommunication, and Electronics & Instrumentation.
- Cook ‘A’ (code 70): Class 10 pass and 5 years of work as a cook in a well-established hotel or canteen. The experience certificate must come from that hotel or canteen. A certificate signed by a private person is not accepted.
- Fireman ‘A’ (code 71): Class 10 pass, the physical standards below, and a preliminary medical certificate uploaded with the online form.
Page 9 adds two rules that lead to rejection. Only the exact qualification named for a post is accepted, and “no equivalent courses” will count. The qualification must also come from a recognised board or university.
IPRC age limits on 5 October 2026, and the unclear qualification cut-off
Page 2 sets the age limits “as on 05.10.2026”:
- Technical Assistant, Technician ‘B’ and Cook ‘A’: 18 to 35 years.
- Fireman ‘A’: 18 to 25 years.
For age, pages 2 and 10 both use 5 October 2026, and the extension notice does not change that date. Your age must be within the limits as on 5 October 2026. The qualification date is less clear. Page 10 names 5 October 2026 as the cut-off for “all purposes”, including the essential qualification or experience. Page 9 says you must hold the qualification or experience “as on the closing date of Online application, i.e. 05.10.2026”. The extension notice later moved that closing date to 24 October 2026, but it says nothing about the cut-off. Your ITI or diploma result, or the day you complete 5 years as a cook, may fall between 5 and 24 October 2026. If so, write to IPRC at career@iprc.gov.in before you pay.
SC and ST candidates get 5 extra years and OBC candidates 3 extra years, but only for a post reserved for their category. Take Technician ‘B’ (Fitter): its 4 seats are OBC and EWS, so an SC applicant gets no SC relaxation there. On Turner, Welder or Machinist, an SC applicant does get 5 years, because each has an SC seat. Ex-servicemen, PwBD candidates, serving government staff and meritorious sportspersons get upper age relaxation as per central government orders. So do widows, and divorced or judicially separated women who have not remarried.
Rs 21,700 basic for Technician ‘B’, Rs 44,900 for Technical Assistant: IPRC pay levels
| Post | Pay Level | Basic pay range |
|---|---|---|
| Technical Assistant | Level 7 | Rs 44,900 to Rs 1,42,400 |
| Technician ‘B’ | Level 3 | Rs 21,700 to Rs 69,100 |
| Cook ‘A’ and Fireman ‘A’ | Level 2 | Rs 19,900 to Rs 63,200 |
A Pay Level is a level in the central government’s 7th Pay Commission pay matrix. The first figure is the starting basic pay. On top of basic pay, IPRC pays Dearness Allowance (DA, a cost-of-living top-up set as a share of basic pay). It also pays House Rent Allowance (HRA) and Transport Allowance, unless you use IPRC housing or transport instead. Staff come under the National Pension System (NPS). Other benefits listed include medical cover under a contributory health scheme, a subsidised canteen, leave travel concession and a house building advance. The notice gives no take-home figure, so this page does not estimate one.
The 80-question ITI and diploma paper, and the 100-question Cook and Fireman paper
Selection is a written test and then a skill test (page 3). The written test is on paper with an OMR sheet (a bubble answer sheet read by machine), held only in Tirunelveli and Chennai. You pick the city in the form, and you cannot change it later. IPRC may still change a centre for administrative reasons. Final selection depends only on written test marks. The skill test is “GO/NO-GO”: you must pass it, but its marks do not count. If two people tie, marks in the qualifying diploma, ITI or Class 10 decide.
| Detail | Technical Assistant and Technician ‘B’ | Cook ‘A’ and Fireman ‘A’ |
|---|---|---|
| Questions and time | 80 questions, 90 minutes | 100 questions, 120 minutes |
| Marking | +1 right, minus 0.33 wrong | +1 right, minus 0.25 wrong |
| Written pass mark | 32 of 80 (24 of 80 for a reserved seat of your category) | Not stated in the notice |
| Syllabus | Your diploma or ITI course | Cook: cooking and kitchen equipment, general knowledge, English, arithmetic. Fireman: listed below |
| Skill test pass mark | 50 of 100 (40 for a reserved seat of your category) | Cook: 60 of 100. Fireman: physical test |
For Technical Assistant and Technician ‘B’, written test qualifiers are called to the skill test at 5 for each post, with at least 10 called for each post. The paper for codes 60 to 62 comes in English and Hindi. The paper for the other codes also comes in Tamil.
The Fireman paper covers flammable liquids and gases, LPG, the link between pressure, volume and temperature, and areas and volumes of simple shapes. It also covers water, carbon dioxide, oxygen, hydrogen and inert gases, electricity and its hazards, Class 10 arithmetic, basic English, general knowledge and current affairs.
The IPRC careers page keeps question papers from earlier IPRC tests. They include Fireman ‘A’ (2016 and 2018) and Cook (2022). Technician ‘B’ Fitter and Welder have papers from 2016, 2018 and 2022, and Turner and Electrician from 2018. Refrigeration & AC has papers from 2016 and 2018. Technical Assistant Mechanical and Electronics have papers from 2016, 2018 and 2022. They show the style of question, but this year’s syllabus is the one in the advertisement.
Fireman ‘A’ at IPRC: 165 cm height, a medical certificate before you apply, and a 1,500 metre run
Women and transgender candidates can apply for Fireman ‘A’, with their own standards. The notice lists PwBD job requirements for every code except Fireman (code 71). The physical standards on page 4 are:
| Standard | Men (general) | Men (Gorkha, hill tribe, SC, ST) | Women and transgender |
|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum height | 165 cm | 160 cm | 155 cm |
| Minimum weight | 50 kg | 46 kg | 43 kg |
| Chest (breathed out / breathed in) | 81 / 86 cm | 76 / 81 cm | Not applicable |
Everyone needs a body mass index (BMI) of 18 to 28 and a waist-to-hip ratio of 1 or less. The table also sets a minimum chest expansion of 5 cm, in one cell across all columns. Eyesight must be 6/6 in each eye without glasses. Colour blindness, night blindness, flat foot and knock knees are among the conditions that disqualify you.
Before you fill the form, get the Preliminary Medical Examination (PME) certificate in the Annexure A format. A government allopathic doctor of at least Assistant Civil Surgeon rank must sign it. Upload a scan with the form, and bring it to the skill test. It is valid for 6 months. Only those who uploaded it and meet the standards are called to the skill test.
Written test qualifiers who meet the medical norms are called for the Physical Efficiency Test (PET), at 50 for each post. Stage 1 is the run, and only those who pass it go on to the Stage 2 events. Every event is pass or fail, and failing one ends your test. Spiked shoes are not allowed in the runs. These are the standards for candidates up to 40 years:
- Stage 1 run: men 1,500 metres in 7 minutes; women and transgender 800 metres in 4 minutes.
- Stage 2 rope climb, hands only: 5 metres (women and transgender 4.5 metres).
- Fireman’s lift: carry a 60 kg dummy 25 metres in 60 seconds (women and transgender: 50 kg in 75 seconds).
- Long jump: 3.8 metres (3.5 metres), best of 3 tries.
- 100 metre run: 15 seconds (17 seconds).
Those who pass go through a detailed medical exam, and the panel follows written test marks. A selected Fireman must live in IPRC’s essential staff quarters.
Full refund for women and SC/ST candidates who sit the IPRC written test
The fee is Rs 750 for Technical Assistant and Rs 500 for Technician ‘B’, Cook and Fireman. Page 8 says to pay online through the SBI e-Payment gateway, by net banking, UPI or a bank card issued in India. Then open the “Receipt” link on the advertisement page and make sure it shows a successful payment. IPRC is not responsible for failed or pending payments. After the extension, the fee can be paid until 29 October 2026 (5 PM). That includes people who sent the form earlier but could not pay.
The money comes back only if you sit the written test:
- Women, SC, ST, ex-servicemen and PwBD candidates get the full fee back.
- Others get Rs 500 back for Technical Assistant, or Rs 400 back for the other posts.
- Bank charges are deducted from the refund. Enter your bank details correctly, and upload the front page of your passbook.
