ITBP Head Constable Motor Mechanic Recruitment 2026 is for 21 posts in the Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBPF), under the Ministry of Home Affairs. Only men can apply: Indian citizens, including subjects of Nepal or Bhutan. The online form runs from 28 September 2026 (12:01 AM) to 27 October 2026 (11:59 PM) on the ITBP recruitment website. You need Class 12 plus a motor mechanic trade qualification: a certificate with 3 years of workshop experience, or a 3-year diploma in automobile engineering. Your age must be 18 to 25 years on 27 October 2026, which means a birth date from 28 October 2001 to 27 October 2008. The post is a Group C job in Level 4 of the 7th Pay Commission pay matrix, with a basic pay of Rs 25,500 to Rs 81,100. It is temporary but likely to become permanent.

Notice used: the ITBPF advertisement for Head Constable (Motor Mechanic) 2026, a 27-page notice with its annexures, signed by the DIG (Recruitment). It is on recruitment.itbpolice.nic.in. On 4 October 2026 the ITBP recruitment website showed no corrigendum or date extension for the Head Constable (Motor Mechanic) 2026 advertisement.

Category split of the ITBP motor mechanic vacancies, with none for ST

Category Posts
Unreserved (UR) 7
Scheduled Caste (SC) 4
Scheduled Tribe (ST) 0
Other Backward Class (OBC) 7
Economically Weaker Section (EWS) 3
Total 21

The count is based on the post-based roster and includes backlog vacancies. 10% of the vacancies are kept for ex-servicemen, and unfilled ones go to other candidates of the same category. The notice does not give the exact number of ex-servicemen posts. ITBPF says the vacancies are tentative and may go up or down.

Persons with disabilities cannot apply for this post.

ITBP Head Constable Motor Mechanic Recruitment 2026: Class 12 plus a trade route

The notice lists 10+2 as a separate requirement on top of the trade qualification. It does not say whether an ITI certificate after Class 10 can stand in for Class 12. You need both of these:

  1. Class 12 (10+2) pass from a recognised board or institution.
  2. One trade qualification. The notice prints it as a certificate in Motor Mechanic from a recognised institution or an Industrial Training Institute (ITI), with three years of practical experience in a reputed workshop. The other option is a three-year Diploma in Automobile Engineering.

The notice does not say in so many words whether the 3 years of experience also applies to diploma holders, or how the experience is counted. Keep an experience certificate ready, as the list of documents asks for educational, diploma and experience certificates.

You must hold the qualification by the closing date, 27 October 2026.

How old you can be for the ITBP motor mechanic post, with SC, OBC and ex-servicemen relaxation

ITBPF prints the dates itself. You should not be born before 28 October 2001 or after 27 October 2008. Your date of birth is taken from your Class 10 (matriculation) certificate. The table below gives the extra years allowed beyond 25:

Category Age relaxation
SC 5 years
OBC (non-creamy layer) 3 years
Ex-servicemen (UR) 3 years, after deducting military service from actual age
Ex-servicemen (OBC) 6 years, after the same deduction
Ex-servicemen (SC) 8 years, after the same deduction
Central government servants Up to 40 years (UR), 43 (OBC) or 45 (SC and ST)

Apart from the government servant row, the table has no line for ST candidates, and there are no ST vacancies in this advertisement. SC, OBC and EWS certificates must be issued before the closing date. The OBC non-creamy layer certificate must be based on income for 2023-24, 2024-25 and 2025-26.

PET and PST for ITBP Head Constable: 1.6 km in 7 minutes 30 seconds

The Physical Efficiency Test (PET) has no marks, but you must clear every event:

  • 1.6 km race in 7 minutes 30 seconds.
  • Long jump of 11 feet, with 3 chances.
  • High jump of 3½ feet, with 3 chances.

There is no appeal against a PET result. Ex-servicemen do not take the PET, but they must clear every other stage.

The Physical Standard Test (PST) measures height and chest:

Group Minimum height Chest (unexpanded / expanded)
Most states and union territories 170 cm 80 / 85 cm
Garhwalis, Kumaonis, Gorkhas, Dogras, Marathas; Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Kashmir region and Ladakh 165 cm 78 / 83 cm
Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura 162.5 cm 77 / 82 cm

To claim a lower standard, you need a certificate in the Annexure-V format. Weight must be in proportion to height and age, under the medical guidelines for the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF). Under- or overweight candidates go to the next stage, and the final decision is made at the medical. If you disagree with a PST measurement, you can appeal in writing to the Presiding Officer the same day.

Document check before the written paper: GK, maths, language and 60 trade questions

ITBPF checks your original documents after the PST and before the written exam. Carry your educational, diploma and experience certificates, Class 10 certificate and caste or EWS certificate. Also bring proof of citizenship, such as Aadhaar, PAN or a domicile certificate, and four recent passport-size photos. If you work for a government, an autonomous or statutory body or a public sector company (PSU), bring a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from your employer. Ex-servicemen need their discharge certificate.

Subject Questions and marks
General Knowledge 10
Mathematics 10
Hindi or English (you choose one) 20
Trade theory (motor mechanic) 60
Total 100

The paper has objective questions, lasts 2 hours and is set at Class 12 standard. ITBPF will decide whether it is a computer-based test (CBT) or a paper test on an OMR sheet, where you shade circles that a machine reads. GK, maths and trade questions come in both Hindi and English. The notice does not mention negative marking. To qualify, you need 35% if you are general, EWS or ex-serviceman, and 33% if you are SC or OBC.

ITBP skill test on vehicle faults, and why only written marks decide merit

About ten times the vacancies in each category are called for the practical skill test. It carries 50 marks: vehicle inspection 10, identifying faults 10, fixing defects 25 and handling tools 5. You need 50% to pass, but the notice calls the test “qualifying in nature”.

The merit list for each category is made only from the written exam marks. If two candidates tie, the older one ranks higher, then the alphabetical order of names. There is no reserve list.

The last stage is a detailed medical exam under the CAPF guidelines. If you are declared unfit, you can ask for a review medical by giving written consent within 24 hours.

Eyesight without glasses and the left-forearm tattoo rule at the ITBP medical

  • Distant vision must be 6/6 in the better eye and 6/9 in the worse eye, without glasses. Near vision must be N6 and N9.
  • No glasses or other correction are allowed. Colour vision is tested to CP III on the Ishihara chart, and a colour-blind person is not eligible.
  • You must not have knock knees, flat feet, varicose veins or a squint.
  • Tattoos are allowed only on the inner side of the left forearm or the back of the hand, and must be smaller than a quarter of that part. Religious symbols, figures and names are allowed.

ITBP Head Constable salary, allowances and the 10-year service bond

The post is in Level 4 of the 7th Pay Commission pay matrix, Rs 25,500 to Rs 81,100. A pay level is one band of that matrix, and Rs 25,500 is the starting basic pay. The notice lists Dearness Allowance (DA), ration money, a special compensatory allowance in border areas, free housing or house rent allowance, transport allowance, leave travel concession and free medical care. We have not worked out an in-hand figure for this page. You can choose either the National Pension System (NPS) or the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS).

Selected candidates go through basic training and can be posted anywhere in India or abroad. You must serve at least 10 years. If you leave earlier, you must repay three months’ pay and allowances or the cost of your training, whichever is higher.

Applying on recruitment.itbpolice.nic.in: fee waivers, NOC and fingerprint checks

  • Apply only online at recruitment.itbpolice.nic.in, with your own working email ID and mobile number.
  • UR, OBC and EWS candidates pay Rs 100 online. SC candidates and ex-servicemen pay nothing. The fee is not refunded.
  • Fill your category and other details carefully, as a change of category is not allowed later.
  • If you work for a central or state government, a PSU or an autonomous body, bring an NOC in the Annexure-VI format to document verification.
