ITBP Head Constable Education and Stress Counsellor Recruitment 2026 has 16 seats in the Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBPF), and 2 of them are for women. You qualify with a degree that includes Psychology, or with a degree plus a B.Ed or Bachelor of Teaching (B.T.). Forms are accepted online between 12:01 AM on 28 September 2026 and 11:59 PM on 27 October 2026. Applicants should be born between 28 October 2001 and 27 October 2006, so you are 20 to 25 on the closing date. Basic pay is Rs 25,500 to Rs 81,100 in Level 4 of the 7th Pay Commission pay matrix, a Group C post. Psychology carries 60 of the 100 written marks.

Basis for this page: ITBPF’s 25-page Head Constable (Education and Stress Counsellor) 2026 notice, including its annexures, published on recruitment.itbpolice.nic.in. On 4 October 2026 the ITBPF recruitment website showed no corrigendum or date extension for the Head Constable (Education and Stress Counsellor) 2026 advertisement.

Seats for women in ITBP Head Constable Education and Stress Counsellor Recruitment 2026, by category

Category Men Women
Unreserved (UR) 3 1
Scheduled Caste (SC) 0 0
Scheduled Tribe (ST) 2 0
Other Backward Class (OBC) 8 1
Economically Weaker Section (EWS) 1 0
Total 14 2

An unfilled women’s seat passes to a man of the same category. Ex-servicemen have a 10% share, though no seat count is printed for them. ITBPF may raise or cut the 16 seats, and the post is closed to persons with disabilities.

Psychology as a subject, or a teaching degree on top of graduation

Either route below is accepted:

  • A degree from a recognised university, with Psychology as a subject, or
  • A degree from a recognised university, with a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed), a Bachelor of Teaching (B.T.) or an equivalent.

The notice does not say whether Psychology must be a main subject, or whether an integrated degree-plus-B.Ed course counts. It also gives no separate date by which you must hold the degree. Its date rules cover age, fixed on 27 October 2026, and category status. OBC and EWS certificates must be held before that closing date.

Departmental candidates get 5 extra years: the counsellor age table

Category Extra years beyond 25
SC and ST 5
OBC (non-creamy layer) 3
Ex-servicemen (UR / OBC / SC and ST) 3 / 6 / 8, after deducting military service
Departmental candidates 5

The table has no separate relaxation for women, widows or government servants. ITBPF reads your birth date only from the Class 10 certificate, so make sure your form matches it.

Running, jumping and measuring: the ITBPF counsellor PET and PST for men and women

There are no marks in the Physical Efficiency Test (PET): you either clear all three events or you are out, and no appeal is heard.

Event Men Women
Race 1.6 km within 7.30 minutes 800 m within 4.45 minutes
Long jump (3 chances) 11 feet 9 feet
High jump (3 chances) 3½ feet 3 feet

Ex-servicemen skip the PET. Women give a self-declaration about pregnancy at the PET and PST. A woman found to be 12 weeks or more pregnant is declared temporarily unfit, and her vacancy is kept reserved. She retakes the PET six weeks after the birth with a fitness certificate. She must still clear the PST, written test, document check and medical, and make the merit list.

In the Physical Standard Test (PST), women are measured only by female staff, and their chest is not measured.

Group Height (men / women) Chest for men (normal / expanded)
Most states and union territories 170 / 157 cm 80 / 85 cm
Garhwalis, Kumaonis, Gorkhas, Dogras, Marathas; the north-eastern states, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Kashmir region and Ladakh 165 / 155 cm 80 / 85 cm
Scheduled Tribes, including Mizos and Nagas 162.5 / 154 cm 77 / 82 cm

Your weight is judged against your height and age under the medical standards.

What the counsellor paper asks: English, Hindi and five psychology topics

Section Marks
General English 10
General Hindi 10
General Awareness 10
Quantitative Aptitude and Simple Reasoning 10
Psychology 60
Total 100

You get 2 hours for 100 objective questions. ITBPF will choose between an OMR sheet (a paper answer sheet read by a machine) and a computer-based test (CBT). The paper includes both a General English and a General Hindi section, 10 marks each. Wrong answers cost nothing, as there is no negative marking.

Psychology marks are split by topic:

  • General psychology, intelligence, creativity and problem solving: 10
  • Personality, attitudes, stereotypes, prejudice and discrimination, group dynamics: 10
  • Psychopathology: 15
  • Counselling psychology: 15
  • Managing human resources: 10

The pass mark is 35% for UR, EWS and ex-servicemen candidates, and 33% for SC, ST and OBC. Ranks within each category depend on the written score. A tie goes to the older candidate, then in alphabetical order. Unlike the motor mechanic post, this one has no skill test. Neither post has a reserve list.

After the counsellor merit list: original certificates, then the ITBPF medical

Candidates are called in order of merit for document verification, which comes before the detailed medical exam. Bring your degree certificates, Class 10 certificate, caste or EWS certificate and other proofs listed in the notice. Government servants must bring a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer in the Annexure-IV format, or their candidature is rejected.

At the medical, distant vision must be 6/6 and 6/9 and near vision N6 and N9, without glasses. Colour vision must reach grade CP III on the Ishihara chart test. A tattoo is accepted only if it sits on the inner left forearm or the back of a hand and covers less than a quarter of that area. Candidates found unfit have 24 hours to request a review medical in writing.

Free forms for women, Level 4 allowances and the 10-year ITBPF service term

  • Only UR, OBC and EWS men pay the Rs 100 online fee, and it cannot be refunded. Women of every category, SC, ST and ex-servicemen candidates apply free.
  • The pay is Level 4 of the 7th Pay Commission matrix. Allowances include Dearness Allowance (DA), ration money, free housing or house rent allowance, and others as the force allows. No in-hand figure is printed, and this page does not estimate one.
  • You must serve at least 10 years. Quit sooner and you owe ITBPF the higher of three months’ pay and allowances or your training cost.
  • You can be posted anywhere in India or abroad.
  • Entry to the PET and PST ground needs printed copies of your application form and admit card.
  • Queries go to comdtrect@itbp.gov.in, or by phone to 011-24369482 or 011-24369483.

Two ITBP head constable notices of 2026 side by side

ITBPF released this post along with a Head Constable (Motor Mechanic) notice with the same form dates. The counsellor post is open to women and needs a degree. The mechanic post is for men with Class 12. They also need a motor mechanic certificate with 3 years of workshop experience, or a 3-year automobile engineering diploma. Graduates can also look at government jobs for graduates, other police and armed police force openings and central jobs open across India.
