UPSC Delhi APP 2026: 140 Assistant Public Prosecutor Posts in Advt 11/2026

UPSC’s form for 140 Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) posts in Delhi closes at 6 PM on Friday, 2 October 2026, not at midnight. This Delhi APP vacancy 2026 is in the Directorate of Prosecution of the Delhi government. It is a Pay Level 10 job, which means a starting basic pay of Rs 56,100 a month. You need a law degree and three years’ experience at the bar. Since the last APP round, the pay level, the job status and every age limit have gone up. Some lawyers who were too old in 2025 are now eligible.

The APP post is the big one, but the advertisement has seven items in all:

NPA is the Non-Practising Allowance paid to government doctors. Every post closes at 6 PM on 2 October 2026, except the Ladakh Law Officer post, which closes at 6 PM on 9 October 2026. Several APP pages online give 9 October as the last date for Delhi too. That date is only for Ladakh.

Delhi APP vacancy 2026: 140 posts by category

Eight of the 140 posts are reserved for candidates with disabilities. The advertisement lists which disabilities the post suits, and it excludes some, such as cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy.

The job is permanent. It is a Group A Gazetted post, which is officer rank. You would conduct cases in the Metropolitan Magistrate courts for the Delhi government, advise the police in criminal cases and keep case records. Teaching law is also listed in the duties. Headquarters is Delhi. Probation is two years, with at least two weeks of induction training.

The Delhi OBC certificate rule for APP applicants

Read this before you pay if your OBC certificate is not from Delhi. UPSC issued a clarification on 15 September 2026. It says OBC reservation for this post is only for candidates with a Delhi government OBC certificate. The caste must also be on Delhi’s OBC list. If your OBC certificate is from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana or any other state, you will be treated as UR and considered against UR posts. You must also be outside the creamy layer on 2 October 2026, the closing date, and you declare this in the form.

Two practical points follow from this:

• Is your caste on Delhi’s OBC list but not on the Central list? Then UPSC lets you type “0” or “NA” in the caste serial number box of the Common Application Form.
• If your OBC certificate is from another state and you are older than 35 on 2 October 2026, plan as if you are over-age. UPSC will treat you as UR “against UR vacancies”, and the advertisement gives OBC candidates the extra three years only “in respect of vacancies reserved for them”. UPSC has not spelt out this exact case. If you are between 35 and 38, email or call the helpline before you pay, and keep the reply.

The clarification talks only about OBC. It says nothing about SC and ST certificates from other states.

Age and bar experience needed by 2 October 2026

Everything is judged on the closing date, 2 October 2026. That includes your age, your law degree and your three years at the bar.

• Upper age: 35 for UR and EWS, 38 for OBC (with a Delhi certificate), 40 for SC and ST. There is no minimum age in the advertisement.
• Candidates with disabilities get up to 10 more years, but can’t be older than 56.
• Ex-servicemen get 5 years.
• Regular Central or Union Territory government employees can get up to 5 years if they have 3 years of continuous service in a similar line of work. Contract and ad hoc staff do not qualify. UPSC decides each case, and the employer’s certificate must be dated after the advertisement.
• Contract staff already working in the Delhi Directorate of Prosecution get a one-time relaxation of up to 5 years, equal to their time on contract. They need at least 180 days of service and a certificate from the head of the department.

The advertisement says “three years’ experience at the bar” and does not explain how UPSC counts it. Keep documents that show exact start and end dates, such as your enrolment certificate and court appearance records. UPSC does not count part-time, daily-wage or guest work, and it will not accept a pay slip, resume or unsigned letter as proof of experience.

The advertisement also allows UPSC to relax the three-year rule for SC and ST candidates. It will do this only if it finds too few SC or ST candidates with enough experience to fill their posts. That is UPSC’s choice, not a right.

Experience as a government advocate is listed as a desirable qualification. UPSC can use desirable qualifications to shortlist when many people apply, so mention every bit of relevant experience in the form.

Shortlisting, then a 100-mark interview for APP

This is a “recruitment by selection”, not a regular written exam. The final stage is an interview out of 100 marks. If too many people apply, UPSC can shortlist using one or more of these methods:

• the desirable qualification (government advocate experience)
• higher qualifications or more years of experience
• a recruitment test

The advertisement does not say whether there will be a test for APP. If one is held, its centres include Delhi, Lucknow, Jaipur, Bhopal and Mumbai, among others. You may see a 300-mark OMR exam with negative marking on other job pages. None of that is in the advertisement.

You also need a minimum interview score, whether selection is by interview alone or by a test plus interview. It is 50 for UR, 45 for OBC and 40 for SC, ST and candidates with disabilities. The advertisement gives no separate figure for EWS. UPSC can also offer a higher starting pay to candidates it rates very highly at interview.

What the APP post pays at Level 10 in Delhi

Level 10 starts at a basic pay of Rs 56,100. We worked out the monthly figure for a new APP living in Delhi, using the current central rates:

This is our estimate, not a UPSC figure. The DA rate comes from the Department of Expenditure order dated 22 April 2026, and the Delhi government has forwarded that order to its departments. HRA and TA rates come from the Department of Expenditure orders of 7 July 2017. We have not taken off income tax or the small group and health scheme payments, and at this pay level income tax will lower the monthly figure further. You get no HRA if you live in government housing, and no TA if you are given government transport.

For comparison, the 2025 APP post was at Level 8, which starts at Rs 47,600. That older figure still turns up on a few APP pages for 2026.

The qualification has not changed: a law degree and three years at the bar.

Fee and form rules on upsconline.nic.in

The fee is Rs 25. Women, SC, ST and candidates with disabilities pay nothing, while UR, OBC and EWS men pay the full fee. You can pay only online, by card, UPI or net banking, before the form closes at 6 PM. The fee is not refunded.

1. Create an account on upsconline.nic.in and get your Universal Registration Number (URN).
2. Fill the Common Application Form. It includes a live photo and a signature signed three times.
3. Open the APP post (Vacancy No. 26091106212) and fill the post-specific part.
4. Upload every document. That means your 10th certificate for date of birth, law degree and bar experience certificates with exact dates. Add your category or disability certificate if you claim one. For OBC, the certificate must be from the Delhi government, and you also upload a declaration that you are not in the creamy layer on 2 October 2026. A missing document can cancel your candidature.
5. Pay the fee, submit, and print the final form. You will need the printout at the interview.

Check everything twice before you submit. UPSC does not allow any correction or withdrawal after submission, and changing your URN profile later does not change a form you have already sent. UPSC also contacts candidates only by email, so use an address you check often.
