MPSC Group C Recruitment 2026: 2,619 Posts Across Five Cadres, Apply by 17 July
On this page
Naukritips.com’s first Maharashtra post lands on a big one. MPSC Group C Recruitment 2026 fills 2,619 posts across five very different cadres through a single combined preliminary exam. One prelim gets you in the door; where you go after that depends entirely on which cadre you pick. Applications run on the MPSC portal from 27 June to 17 July 2026, 11:59 PM.
One Prelim, Five Very Different Jobs
This is the part most listings blur. You sit one common 100-mark preliminary CBT, but the five cadres underneath it are worlds apart in pay, eligibility and even physical standards. The prelim only shortlists you; after it, the four non-AMVI cadres write a shared 400-mark Main exam, while the Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector cadre writes its own separate 300-mark Main. So the real decision is which cadre your qualification actually fits.
MPSC Group C Recruitment 2026: The Five Cadres
| Cadre | Department | Posts | Pay Level | Pay Band |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Clerk-Typist | Mantralaya + state offices | 1,864 | S-6 | ₹19,900-63,200 |
| Asst Motor Vehicle Inspector | Home | 461 | S-14 | ₹38,600-1,22,800 |
| Tax Assistant | Finance | 282 | S-8 | ₹25,500-81,100 |
| Industry Inspector | Industry, Energy & Labour | 9 | S-13 | ₹35,400-1,12,400 |
| Technical Assistant | Finance (Insurance) | 3 | S-10 | ₹29,200-92,300 |
Clerk-Typist alone is over 70% of the drive. The Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector cadre, though, sits on the top pay band, above every other cadre here, which makes it the most valuable seat for anyone who can meet its extra bar.
What These Cadres Actually Pay In Hand
The advertisement lists only pay bands, so here’s our estimate of what lands in your account each month once DA and HRA are added and deductions come out. Treat these as approximate, not official figures. An Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector on the S-14 band should see roughly Rs 52,000 to Rs 60,000 in hand at the start. A Tax Assistant on S-8 lands nearer Rs 34,000 to Rs 39,000, and a Clerk-Typist on S-6 around Rs 27,000 to Rs 31,000. That’s the AMVI cadre paying close to double the Clerk-Typist, off the very same prelim, which is exactly why the eligibility bar for it is steeper.
The Eligibility Ladders Are Not the Same
Four of the five cadres need just a bachelor’s degree (Industry Inspector needs an engineering diploma or a science degree). The Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector cadre is the outlier and worth reading carefully if it’s your target:
- Qualification: SSC plus a minimum three-year diploma in Automobile or Mechanical Engineering, or a listed equivalent, or a higher engineering degree.
- Experience: at least one year of full-time work in repair and maintenance of light and heavy vehicles, by the Main exam application deadline (an apprenticeship counts, or you acquire it during probation).
- Licence: a valid driving licence covering geared motorcycle, LMV and transport (heavy goods and heavy passenger) vehicles. The heavy-vehicle part can be obtained within the two-year probation.
- Physical: male height at least 163 cm with a 79 cm chest (5 cm expansion); female height at least 155 cm and weight at least 45 kg; clear vision and not colour-blind.
Knowledge of Marathi is required for every cadre in this recruitment.
The Typing Certificate That Trips People Up
Two cadres need typing certificates, and the rules differ in a way that catches applicants out. Tax Assistant needs both Marathi at 30 wpm and English at 40 wpm. Clerk-Typist needs Marathi 30 wpm or English 40 wpm, and if you hold only the English certificate, you must acquire Marathi 30 wpm within four years of joining. Candidates from disabled, ex-servicemen, orphan and project-affected categories get a two-year window after appointment to clear the typing requirement.
Reservation Runs on Maharashtra Domicile
Every reservation benefit in this recruitment, both the social categories and the horizontal ones like women, sports and orphan quotas, is available only to candidates who are ordinary residents (domiciled) of Maharashtra. A domicile certificate is a mandatory upload for anyone claiming reservation. Your EWS or non-creamy-layer certificate has to be dated before 27 September 2026, the prelim date. One more cadre-specific detail from the vacancy tables: the project-affected, earthquake-affected and part-time-graduate quotas exist only for Clerk-Typist, and only outside Greater Mumbai.
