Age Limit
The age limit for all posts is 18 to 35 years, counted as on 20 July 2026. This same date is also the cut off for your qualification and experience.
Age relaxation is given as per government rules, but with one important condition. The relaxation of 5 years for SC and ST, and 3 years for OBC, applies only for a post that is reserved for that category. If you apply against an unreserved post, you get no relaxation. EWS candidates do not get any age relaxation. Relaxation for persons with disabilities and ex-servicemen is given as per the government orders, with the proper certificate.
Application Fee
Every applicant first pays a processing fee online. A part of it is the actual application fee, which is not refunded, and the rest is returned to you only if you appear in the written test.
| Post group | Processing fee you pay | Non refundable fee | Refunded if you appear |
|---|---|---|---|
| Technical Assistant, Scientific Assistant, Library Assistant-A | ₹750 | ₹250 | ₹500 |
| Technician-B, Draughtsman-B, Cook | ₹500 | ₹100 | ₹400 |
Women candidates, and SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates, do not pay the application fee, and they get a full refund of the processing fee if they appear in the test, provided they upload the right certificate. The payment is made online only, through the Bharatkosh gateway, using net banking, UPI or a domestic debit card. Credit cards are not accepted for this recruitment.
The refund is sent to the bank account you enter in the application form, so fill the bank name, branch, account holder name, account number and IFSC code carefully. ISTRAC is not responsible if the refund fails because of wrong bank details.

Selection Process
The selection has a few clear steps, and there is no interview at any stage.
- First, an initial screening is done on the basis of your academic record and the details in your online application.
- The screened in candidates are called for a Written Test, which is a computer based test.
- After the written test, there is document verification, and then a Skill Test or Trade Test.
The Skill Test is only a qualifying, pass or fail stage. Your final merit is decided only by your marks in the Written Test, among those who pass the skill test. For most posts the written test has 80 questions in 1 hour 30 minutes, with 1 mark for a correct answer and a penalty of 0.33 mark for a wrong answer. The pass mark in the written test is 32 out of 80 for unreserved candidates and 24 out of 80 for reserved candidates of a reserved post. For the Cook post the written test has 60 questions instead of 80. Candidates are then shortlisted for the Skill Test on a 1 to 5 ratio, that is five candidates per vacancy, with a minimum of 10 per post code. Document verification is done before the Skill Test, and only those who clear it are allowed to take the skill test. The skill test carries 100 marks and is qualifying, with a pass mark of 50 for unreserved and 40 for reserved candidates, except for the Cook post where the pass mark is 60 with no relaxation. The skill test is held in Bengaluru only, while the written test can be in different cities, and there is no interview.
ISRO ISTRAC Salary
The pay depends on the post and follows the 7th Pay Commission pay matrix.
- Cook-A: Pay Level 2, with a basic pay of about ₹19,900 per month.
- Technician-B and Draughtsman-B: Pay Level 3, with a basic pay of about ₹21,700 per month.
- Technical Assistant, Scientific Assistant and Library Assistant-A: Pay Level 7, with a basic pay of about ₹44,900 per month.
On top of the basic pay you get Dearness Allowance and other allowances, so the in hand salary is higher and depends on the posting. ISRO also gives benefits like transport, limited housing, medical facilities and a pension under the National Pension System. Common Mistakes to Avoid
Since a lot of wrong information is floating online about this recruitment, here are the points to be sure about.
- The total is 26 posts, not 46 or any higher number. Those figures mix up other notices.
- The last date is 20 July 2026 up to 11:55 PM, not 5 PM, and the age is counted as on 20 July 2026, not 13 July.
- There is a fee. The idea that this recruitment is free is wrong.
- There is no interview, and the posts are temporary but likely to continue, not permanent.
- This is not the ISRO Scientist or Engineer exam, and it is not the ISRO Apprentice notice. Those are separate recruitments.
Should You Apply?
If you have the required ITI, diploma or degree, this recruitment lets you join ISRO with a basic pay of about ₹19,900 to ₹44,900 depending on the post, plus allowances and promotion on merit. Keep in mind that there are only 26 posts and ISRO jobs draw a very large number of applicants, so the competition will be high and your written test score will decide your selection. Prepare well, apply before 20 July 2026, and keep your certificates ready for the verification stage.
