Graduates who can take English shorthand at 110 words per minute (wpm) can apply for 65 tentative Senior Personal Assistant vacancies in the Supreme Court Registry. That is the Supreme Court Senior Personal Assistant Recruitment 2026, advertised on 12 October 2026. The notice classes it as a Group B, Non-Gazetted post. It sits in Level 8 of the pay matrix, with a starting basic pay of Rs 47,600. The Court has set the online form window from 20 October to 10 November 2026 (until 11:55 PM). You must be 18 to 30 years old on 1 October 2026, with the usual relaxations. The objective test is tentatively fixed for 7 December 2026.
A panel for 65 Senior Personal Assistant vacancies, with no category split given
The Court is building a panel to fill 65 tentative vacancies of Senior Personal Assistant (SPA) in its Registry (page 1). The notice warns that this number may change. The Registry can also change or cancel the selection process without notice.
The advertisement does not split the 65 posts by category. Reservation for SC, ST and OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) follows Rule 4A of the Court’s 1961 service rules (page 2). The notice does not mention EWS (Economically Weaker Sections) reservation.
Pay is Level 8 of the pay matrix, Rs 47,600 to Rs 1,51,100, plus allowances “as admissible under the Rules”. The notice gives no DA (Dearness Allowance) or HRA (House Rent Allowance) figures. So this page does not estimate take-home pay.
A degree plus two speed skills for the Supreme Court Senior Personal Assistant Recruitment 2026
You need all of these on 1 October 2026 (page 1):
- Indian citizenship;
- a degree from a recognised university in India (the notice names no subject);
- English shorthand at 110 words per minute (wpm);
- computer skills with typing at 40 wpm.
The notice does not ask for a shorthand certificate in the form. Your speed is tested in the shorthand and typing tests. For the upload, it lists your Class 10, Class 12 and graduation certificates (page 4).
Age 18 to 30 for the SPA post, and who gets more time
You must be at least 18 and not above the upper limit of 30 years on 1 October 2026. These groups get more time (page 1):
- SC, ST, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), physically challenged candidates and ex-servicemen get the “usual” relaxation under Government of India rules. The notice does not print the number of years.
- Dependants of freedom fighters get up to five more years.
- Departmental candidates of the Supreme Court Registry have no upper age limit.
Serving employees should note one rule. Staff of other government departments, PSUs (public sector undertakings) and nationalised banks get no age relaxation. They also need a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer at document verification (pages 1 and 6).
SPA objective paper, shorthand, typing and interview: half the marks needed in each
| Stage | Time | Marks | Pass mark |
|---|---|---|---|
| Objective test (100 questions) | 1 hour 30 minutes | 100 | 50 |
| English shorthand test at 110 wpm | 7 minutes dictation, 45 minutes transcription | 100 | 50 |
| English typing test on computer at 40 wpm | 10 minutes | 20 | 10 |
| Interview | Not stated | 30 | 15 |
The 100 objective questions are split like this (page 2):
- General English: 25;
- General Knowledge: 25;
- provisions on the Judiciary in the Constitution of India: 25;
- the Supreme Court Rules, 2013: 15;
- knowledge of computer operation: 10.
There is no negative marking in the objective test (page 6). By our own sum, the four maximum marks add up to 250, though the notice prints no total. It also does not say how the final merit list combines them.
Answer keys are due on 8 December 2026. Objections can be filed online, tentatively on 8 and 9 December 2026, until 11:55 PM. Each objection costs Rs 100, refunded if the objection is found valid (page 6).
How the 7-minute SPA dictation at 110 wpm is graded
The shorthand test allows mistakes up to 5% of the words dictated (page 2). The notice grades your transcript like this, but does not say how each grade turns into marks:
| Mistakes in your transcript | Grade |
|---|---|
| None | 100% |
| Up to 1% | 90% |
| Up to 2% | 80% |
| Up to 3% | 70% |
| Up to 4% | 60% |
| Up to 5% | 50% |
A rough guide, by our own sum: 7 minutes at 110 wpm is about 770 words. Then 1% is 7.7 mistakes, so 7.5 or fewer (counting half-mistakes) keeps you at 90% or above. The 5% limit is 38.5 mistakes. The notice itself does not print a word count.
Some errors count only as half a mistake (page 6). In shorthand, a full-stop mistake counts as half. So is a capital letter typed as small, or the other way round. In the typing test, a wrong word or figure is a full mistake. A capital-small mix-up or a missing, added or changed punctuation mark is half. Typing allows mistakes up to 3% of the words typed, or about 12 in a 400-word, 10-minute test by the same rough sum.
What the 1:10 and 1:3 shortlist ratios could mean for 65 SPA posts
The ratios apply if many candidates score 50 or more in the objective test. Then the Court shortlists by merit at 10 candidates per tentative vacancy for the shorthand and typing tests. For interview it keeps 3 per vacancy, among those who clear all three tests (page 6). By our own sum, with 65 vacancies that would be about 650 candidates for the skill tests and 195 for interview. These numbers would change if the vacancy count changes.
The objective test is held in many cities. The shorthand and typing tests are held only in Delhi/NCR. The interview may be online or in person in Delhi. No TA/DA (travel or daily allowance) is paid for any test or the interview (page 5).
69 objective test cities, from Patna and Lucknow to Leh and Thiruvananthapuram
Annexure A lists 69 cities (pages 8 and 9). You choose cities in order of preference, but the Registry may send you to another city. Uttar Pradesh has 11 centres: Agra, Aligarh, Bareilly, Jhansi, Kanpur, Lucknow, Meerut, Moradabad, Muzaffarnagar, Prayagraj and Varanasi. Other examples include Patna, Muzaffarpur and Bhagalpur in Bihar, and Bhopal, Gwalior, Indore and Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh. Rajasthan has Ajmer, Bikaner, Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur. Requests to change the city, centre or test dates are not accepted.
Class 10 name match and the UCO Bank fee in the SPA online form
- Watch the Supreme Court recruitments page for the application link. The form opens on 20 October 2026.
- Enter your name, father’s name, mother’s name and date of birth exactly as in your Class 10 certificate. A changed name needs a Gazette notification (page 5).
- Pick your category with care. The Court will not accept a request to change it later.
- Upload a recent photo, your signature, and your Class 10, Class 12 and graduation certificates. Add a caste or disability certificate if it applies (page 4).
- Pay the fee online through the UCO Bank gateway. It is Rs 1,500 for General candidates. SC, ST, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), ex-servicemen and physically challenged candidates pay Rs 750. Bank charges are extra. The fee is not refunded in any case (pages 3 and 4).
- Submit by 11:55 PM on 10 November 2026. A submitted form cannot be withdrawn or changed.
- Print the form for your records and keep the application number. You need it for the admit card, which is only online.
If you submit more than one form, only the last one counts (page 5). Keep your e-mail ID and mobile number active, because test dates are also sent by SMS and e-mail. If you get a job during the process, you must tell the Recruitment Cell at recruitment.cell@sci.nic.in (page 7). Those selected must sign an undertaking to work at odd hours and on holidays.
33 SPA vacancies in December 2024, 65 in this round
The last round came in a short advertisement dated 3 December 2024. It covered three posts together: 31 Court Master (Shorthand), 33 Senior Personal Assistant and 43 Personal Assistant vacancies. The basic SPA eligibility and pay were the same as now: a degree, 110 wpm shorthand, 40 wpm typing, Level 8 at Rs 47,600 and age 18 to 30. That short notice did not print the fee, exam scheme or test dates. That 2024 short advertisement is on the Central Bureau of Communication website. This time the SPA post has its own advertisement, with almost twice as many vacancies.
The Court’s Junior Court Assistant recruitment for 2026 is a separate exam for graduates with typing skills. Shorthand writers can also look at the DSSSB Delhi District Courts notice with Personal Assistant posts. More options are listed under court and judiciary jobs, all-India government jobs and jobs for graduates.
