BPSC TRE 4.0 Notification 2026: 33,320 School Teacher Posts (Advt 15/2026)
On this page
BPSC TRE 4.0 is back with a new advertisement. BPSC cancelled Advt 14/2026 and has issued Advt 15/2026 for school teachers in Bihar, from Class 1 to Class 12. After a corrigendum of 29 September 2026, it has 33,320 posts. The big change is that there is now one written exam and no prelims. Online forms run from 25 September to 26 October 2026, and the fee must be paid by 25 October. Start with the TET table, because your class group decides which TET you need. Then read the age section: the upper age limit is counted on 1 August 2024, not 2026.
BPSC TRE 4.0: 33,320 posts by class and starting pay
| Class group | Posts | Starting pay in the advertisement |
|---|---|---|
| Class 1 to 5 (primary) | 3,847 | Rs 25,000 (initial pay stage) |
| Class 6 to 8 (middle) | 8,563 | Rs 28,000 (initial pay stage) |
| Class 9 to 10 (secondary) | 4,370 | Rs 31,000 basic |
| Class 11 to 12 (higher secondary) | 16,540 | Rs 32,000 basic |
Each pay figure comes with “other allowances fixed by the state government”. The advertisement does not give a pay level or the allowance rates, so we have not worked out an in-hand figure. You may see in-hand numbers on other pages. They are not from BPSC.
Science, Maths and Computer Science make up about half of the higher secondary posts. The biggest subjects there are Chemistry (3,695), Physics (1,758), English (1,321), Botany (1,078) and Psychology (1,030). For Class 6 to 8, the biggest are Maths and Science (2,188) and English (1,929). Class 1 to 5 has 3,065 general posts, 757 Urdu and 25 Bangla.
The corrigendum of 29 September 2026 added 932 posts, mostly for subjects that were missing at first. It does not change the form dates, and BPSC says all other terms stay the same. For Class 9 to 10 it added 493 posts: Dance (167), Music (111), Bangla (74), Fine Arts (16), Persian (13), Maithili (11) and Arabic (11). The other 90 are Special School Teacher posts for children with disabilities. For Class 11 to 12 it added 439 posts: Maithili (178), Bhojpuri (81), Prakrit (62), Pali (38), Magahi (32), Persian (23), Bangla (16) and Arabic (9). The added posts carry the same starting pay as their class group. Their district-wise lists are on the BPSC website. The total can still go up or down if the department revises its figures.
Advt 14/2026 is cancelled: no prelims, new dates
- Advt 14 had a prelims followed by a mains. Advt 15 has one written exam.
- The form dates moved. Advt 14 was due to open on 1 September 2026 before BPSC postponed it.
- Advt 14 said a separate Rs 100 fee applied for each class group. Advt 15 only says Rs 100 per candidate. Check the amount the portal shows before you pay.
- Advt 15 started with the same 32,388 posts, age rules and class-wise tables as Advt 14. The 29 September corrigendum then added 932 posts.
If you read about “TRE 4.0 prelims” anywhere, that page is still describing the cancelled advertisement.
Which TET you need for BPSC TRE 4.0
| Class group | Teacher eligibility test |
|---|---|
| Class 1 to 5 | CTET Paper I or BTET Paper I |
| Class 6 to 8 | CTET Paper II or BTET Paper II |
| Class 9 to 10 | STET Paper I |
| Class 11 to 12 | STET Paper II |
For CTET, BPSC accepts 60% for general candidates. It accepts 55% for BC (Backward Class), EBC (Extremely Backward Class) and general women, and 50% for SC, ST and candidates with disabilities. For STET Paper I and Paper II, the pass mark is the one the Bihar School Examination Board set for that STET. Candidates from outside Bihar need the general-category pass mark of their TET, whatever their category. The 29 September corrigendum removed the fixed 60% figure for them.
STET 2026 candidates can apply with a self-declaration form. You must pass STET 2026 before the written exam, or you get no admit card. Keep your STET admit card and result ready. Note that another clause says all certificates must be issued by 26 October 2026, and the advertisement does not explain how the two rules fit together.
You can choose only one subject, and it must be a subject in which you passed the TET.
Degree, D.El.Ed or B.Ed: what each class group needs
- Class 1 to 5: 12th with 50% plus a 2-year D.El.Ed (45% under the older rules of the NCTE, the national teacher training council). Other routes are 12th plus a 4-year B.El.Ed, 12th plus a 2-year special education diploma, or a degree plus D.El.Ed. B.Ed is not in this list.
- Class 6 to 8: a degree plus D.El.Ed, or a degree or PG with 50% plus B.Ed (45% under NCTE rules). A 4-year B.El.Ed, BA.Ed or BSc.Ed also counts. For Maths and Science, your degree must have any two of Maths, Statistics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
- Class 9 to 10: a degree or PG with 50% in the subject plus B.Ed (45% under NCTE rules), or a 4-year BA.Ed or BSc.Ed. For Social Science, History or Geography must be one of your degree subjects. For Science, your degree must have Zoology, Botany and Chemistry, or be an engineering degree in science. For Maths, your degree must have Maths plus any two of Physics, Electronics, Computer Science, Chemistry and Statistics. Physical Education (47 posts), Music (113), Dance (167) and Fine Arts (16) have separate rules, on pages 7 and 8 of the advertisement. Music, Dance and Fine Arts ask for a degree with 50% in that subject, and the advertisement does not list a B.Ed for them. Special School Teacher rules are on page 9.
- Class 11 to 12: a PG with 50% in the subject plus B.Ed (45% under NCTE rules). A 4-year BA.Ed or BSc.Ed plus a PG also counts. So does a 3-year integrated B.Ed-M.Ed with 55% in PG. Computer Science does not need a B.Ed. Music (736 posts) has its own rule, a PG in Music with 50%, and the advertisement does not list a B.Ed for it.
Some subjects were added on 29 September, such as Dance, Fine Arts and Special School Teacher. For them, BPSC says the required degree, training and TET are the ones already given in the advertisement of 22 September. Special School Teacher posts need a degree with 50% and a B.Ed (Special Education) recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India, with a valid CRR number. They also need 6 months of cross-disability training. Read the rule for your subject before you apply.
The advertisement has two lines on the 18-month NIOS D.El.Ed. One says it is valid. The next says it is valid for teachers working before 10 August 2017. If your D.El.Ed is from NIOS, read page 6 before you apply.
SC, ST, EBC, BC and candidates with disabilities get 5% off these minimum marks. Every certificate must be issued by 26 October 2026. If BPSC extends the form date, this certificate date does not move.
BPSC TRE 4.0 age: two different dates
BPSC uses two different dates here. The minimum age is counted on 1 August 2026, but the maximum age is counted on 1 August 2024, two years earlier.
| Rule | Age |
|---|---|
| Minimum, Class 1 to 8 (on 1 Aug 2026) | 18 |
| Minimum, Class 9 to 12 (on 1 Aug 2026) | 21 |
| Maximum, unreserved (UR) men (on 1 Aug 2024) | 37 |
| Maximum, UR women and all BC and EBC (on 1 Aug 2024) | 40 |
| Maximum, SC, ST and transgender (on 1 Aug 2024) | 42 |
Some 18-month NIOS D.El.Ed holders were eligible for TRE 3.0 (Advt 22/2024) but were not allowed to sit. For them, the upper age is counted on 1 August 2023.
Candidates with disabilities get 10 more years. Ex-servicemen get 3 years plus their defence service, but cannot be over 57 on the date they apply. Regular Bihar government staff get 5 more years if they have not used up their 5 attempts. Teachers already appointed and working under panchayat and urban bodies get a relaxed upper age.
A candidate can take this exam at most 5 times.
Reservation, the 40% Bihar schooling rule and outside candidates
Any Indian citizen can apply, but every kind of reservation is only for native residents of Bihar. That covers caste, EWS, women’s and disability reservation.
- Women: 50% of Class 1 to 8 posts and 35% of Class 9 to 12 posts are for women who are native residents of Bihar.
- 40% of all posts go to candidates who passed Matric or Intermediate from a school or college in Bihar. Bihar before Jharkhand was formed in 2000 also counts. This depends on where you studied, not on where you live. If these posts are not filled, they go to other candidates.
- Candidates from other states are treated as general category. They need the general-category TET pass mark (60% in CTET), and in the written exam they must reach the general pass mark of 40%.
Married women claiming reservation need caste, residence and non-creamy layer certificates in their father’s name and at his address, not their husband’s. Your category certificate must already be with you when you fill the form.
One exam of 150 questions, and blanks also lose marks
Selection is by one written objective exam. There is no interview. Each class group has its own paper of 150 questions for 150 marks, in 2 hours 30 minutes:
- Part I, language: 30 questions. You only need to score 30% to qualify.
- Class 1 to 5: Part II, general studies, 120 questions.
- Class 6 to 12: Part II, general studies, 40 questions, and Part III, your subject, 80 questions.
A wrong answer costs one-third of a mark. Each question has five options, A to E, and E means “not attempting”. If you leave all five blank, you also lose one-third of a mark. So always mark E for a question you want to skip.
To qualify, you need 40% (general), 36.5% (BC), 34% (EBC) or 32% (SC, ST, women and candidates with disabilities). The 32% floor for women and candidates with disabilities is only for native residents of Bihar. The merit list for Class 1 to 5 uses Part II marks, and for Class 6 to 12 it uses Parts II and III.
Guest teachers applying for Class 11 to 12 get 5 extra marks for each year of service, up to 25. The marks are added only if you pass the written exam, and this depends on a court case that is still pending. The exam date is not announced, and BPSC says it may hold the exam in more than one phase.
Applying for more than one BPSC class group
If you are eligible for more than one class group, fill a single form and rank the groups in order of priority. Special School Teacher (Class 9 to 10) counts as a separate group in this list. BPSC declares your result only for the first group on your list in which you pass. Your other choices are then cancelled automatically. If you give no order, BPSC declares your result only for the higher class, and your candidacy for the lower classes is cancelled. So always fill in the priority order.
BPSC only makes the merit list. The Education Department checks your documents and gives out districts.
Fee and OTR on the BPSC portal
The fee is Rs 100. If you do not enter your Aadhaar number in the form, you pay Rs 200 more as a biometric fee. The advertisement says Rs 100 per candidate. But the portal works out the amount after you pick your posts, so check the amount on screen before you pay. The fee is never refunded.
- Do One Time Registration (OTR) on bpsconline.bihar.gov.in. If you only registered on BPSC’s older portal, register again here. If you already have an OTR on bpsconline.bihar.gov.in, log in with it. A second OTR is not allowed and can get your form rejected. Your name, parents’ names, gender, Aadhaar and date of birth cannot be changed after OTR.
- Log in, pick your class groups in order of priority, and choose your one subject.
- Pay between 25 September and 25 October 2026.
- Submit the final application by 26 October 2026. Until you do, your form is not complete.
The advertisement gives no closing time for 25 or 26 October, so finish a day early. There is no correction window either. After you pay, you cannot add or remove a post or subject. The only way to change is to cancel and apply again, and the cancelled payment is not refunded.
Uttar Pradesh is also hiring 12,405 primary teachers, with forms open until 15 October: see UPESSC Assistant Teacher 2026. Other Bihar openings are on our Bihar government jobs page.
