Nagaland NPSC CTSE 2026: 172 Technical Posts Across Departments

Nagaland has opened one exam that fills technical and professional posts across a dozen departments at once. The NPSC Combined Technical Services Examination 2026 was advertised with 172 posts, from Junior Engineers and Sub-Divisional Officers to Medical Officers and Veterinary Assistant Surgeons. One thing to know before you invest time: about 80% of the posts are reserved for indigenous inhabitants of Nagaland, so the audience for most of these seats is specific. The online application closed at 12 noon on 22 July 2026 (extended from 17 July). NPSC later added and withdrew some posts, and the written exam began on 26 September 2026, as the update below explains.

Who This Exam Is Really For

Be clear about the audience before you apply, because it saves wasted effort. The notification states that 80% of the vacancies are reserved for candidates who are indigenous inhabitants of Nagaland, belonging to any Naga tribe, Kuki, Kachari, Garo or Mikir. Those posts need an indigenous inhabitant certificate, and within them there are further backward-tribe sub-quotas. In the post list, only about 21 posts are unreserved and open to any eligible Indian candidate: 19 in the advertisement, plus 2 added on 10 July 2026. So realistically, this is a Nagaland exam: if you are an indigenous inhabitant, all the posts still being filled are in play; if you are from outside the state, only the handful of unreserved posts are genuinely open to you.

172 Posts Across Many Departments

This is a combined exam, not a single-post recruitment, so the vacancies span many services. The engineering posts are the largest technical block:

• Junior Engineers (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and others) across Works and Housing, Power, Public Health Engineering and more, the biggest single group of technical posts.
• Sub-Divisional Officers (Civil and Electrical Engineering), Class-I posts in Works and Housing and Power.
• Medical and veterinary posts such as Regimental Medical Officer, Medical Officer, Junior Dental Surgeon and Veterinary Assistant Surgeon.
• Other professional and technical roles including Assistant Conservator of Forests, Economics and Statistics Officer, Assistant Public Prosecutor, Food Safety Officer, Pharmacists, Scientific Assistants and more.

Of the 172 in the advertisement, 135 are fresh vacancies and 37 are backlog. One post, a Junior Engineer (Survey) seat in Geology and Mining, has been officially withdrawn, which is why the item list and the final count differ by one.

Later notices changed the list. The 10 July 2026 addendum added 2 Junior Dental Surgeon posts (Item 50(a)), 14 Pharmacist (Grade-II) posts (Item 50(b)) and 3 Extension Officer posts in the Sericulture Department (Item 51), and raised SDO (Civil Engineering) in the Public Health Engineering Department (Item 25(a)) from 2 to 4 posts. It also said the Vice-Principal post (Item 20(a)) is kept in abeyance. The 15 July 2026 addendum added 4 Vocational Instructor Grade-III posts (Items 20(d) to (f)), but the 31 August 2026 notification said they are kept in abeyance because of a discrepancy in the educational qualification. The same notification said the Rural Development Department has withdrawn all 9 Sectional Overseer Gr-I posts (Item 15). By our count, that leaves 183 posts still being filled: 172 advertised, plus 25 added, minus 9 withdrawn and 5 in abeyance. Of these, 21 are unreserved: the 19 in the advertisement plus 1 each in Items 25(a) and 50(a). This is our own arithmetic, not an NPSC figure. The notices do not say whether the new posts are fresh or backlog vacancies, and the count leaves out NPSC’s corrigendum of 17 July 2026, which this update does not cover.

Qualification: Diploma or Degree, by Post

Because the exam spans many services, the qualification depends on the post you choose. For the Junior Engineer posts, either a degree in the relevant engineering branch or a 3-year diploma in it is accepted, so both diploma and degree holders can apply. Sub-Divisional Officer posts need an engineering degree. The medical, dental, veterinary and law posts need the corresponding professional qualification, such as MBBS, BDS, BVSc or an LLB with Bar Council registration. Check the exact requirement for your chosen item in the official notification before applying, since each post lists its own eligibility.

Fee, Age and the OTR Step

The age limit is 21 to 32 years as on 1 January 2026, with a 5-year relaxation for SC and ST candidates, and a service-based concession of up to 5 years for serving government employees. The fee is a flat examination fee of ₹300 plus a ₹25 convenience fee, and the notification lists no separate category exemption on the fee. Note the two-step timeline: the One Time Registration, which is free, had to be completed first, and then the application with fee. The advertisement set 15 July for OTR and 17 July 2026 for the application, both at 12 noon. The 15 July 2026 addendum reopened OTR from 12 noon on 16 July to 12 noon on 20 July 2026, and extended the application to 12 noon on 22 July 2026. Both have now closed.

How Selection Works

Selection runs through a written competitive examination, followed by an interview, a physical test where the post requires one, and document verification. Each post is mapped to an elective subject, so you sit a paper relevant to your chosen service. The notification does not print the full exam pattern, the number of papers or the detailed marks, and it directs candidates to download the pattern of examination and syllabus separately from the NPSC website, so get that document before you start preparing. NPSC’s 31 August 2026 notification adds that the Pharmaceutical Science (Diploma) exam follows the new pattern, with descriptive Paper-I and Paper-II of 100 marks each. Its 25 September 2026 notification says Food Safety Officer candidates who chose Microbiology as their elective sit only the common Food Safety paper, so the Microbiology paper set for 7 and 8 October 2026 was cancelled. Pay is set on the Nagaland pay matrix, with the Junior Engineer posts at Level 11 and the Class-I officer posts higher up the matrix.

The written exam began on 26 September 2026, and the GE & GK paper was held that day. Papers ran into October. NPSC’s 28 October 2026 notification cancelled the Mechanical Engineering (Diploma) descriptive Paper I and II held on 6 and 7 October 2026. The re-exam is on 21 November 2026, from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon and 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, for Paper I and Paper II respectively. Candidates who did not appear in the GE & GK paper on 26 September 2026 will not be allowed to sit, and no fresh admission certificate will be issued. The notice gives no reason and no venue. As of 7 November 2026, NPSC has not published a CTSE 2026 result.

How to Apply Online

Applications closed at 12 noon on 22 July 2026, so the steps below are kept for reference.

1. Go to npsc.nagaland.gov.in and complete the One Time Registration (OTR), which is free, by 15 July 2026 (reopened from 12 noon on 16 July to 12 noon on 20 July 2026).
2. Fill the online exam application form for your chosen post and pay the ₹300 exam fee plus ₹25 convenience fee by 22 July 2026, 12 noon (extended from 17 July).
3. Upload your certificates, including an indigenous inhabitant or tribe certificate where you are claiming a reserved post.
4. There is no offline form, so apply only through the NPSC portal, and download the exam pattern and syllabus from the same site.

Should You Apply?

If you are an indigenous inhabitant of Nagaland with an engineering, medical or other listed qualification, this is a genuinely broad opportunity, one form for posts across many departments. If you are from outside the state, weigh it against the reality that only about 21 unreserved posts (19 in the advertisement, plus 2 added on 10 July 2026) are open to you. The form has now closed: the 15 July 2026 addendum moved the application deadline from 17 July to 12 noon on 22 July 2026. The next scheduled event in this exam is the 21 November 2026 re-exam of the Mechanical Engineering (Diploma) Paper I and II. As of 7 November 2026, NPSC has not published a CTSE 2026 result.
