The IOCL Barauni Apprentice 2026 recruitment is now open: Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has invited applications for 432 apprentice positions at its Barauni Refinery in Begusarai, Bihar, across 11 trades. The application window shuts on 28 July 2026. The engagement suits fresh graduates, diploma holders, ITI Fitters, B.Com candidates and Class XII pass students who want paid, hands-on training inside a central public-sector refinery. Since there’s no written test and no application fee, your marks in the qualifying course decide your place. A strong percentage counts for more here than exam-day nerves. Keep in mind this is a stipendiary apprenticeship run by a central PSU that happens to sit in Bihar, not a Bihar state-government job.

Verified from the official notification (3 July 2026). These details come from IOCL Barauni Refinery’s Advertisement No. Barauni-BR/HR/APPR/2026-27/I dated 29 June 2026, which we read in full; you can confirm every figure and begin your application on the official IOCL portal.

432 Barauni Refinery apprentice seats: the 11 trades and their numbers

Here’s how IOCL has split the 432 seats and the minimum qualification each trade asks for. The notification calls these seat numbers indicative, so the total and the trade-wise splits are tentative and may increase or decrease.

Trade Seats Minimum qualification
Attendant Operator (Chemical Plant) 237 3-yr B.Sc with Maths, Physics and Chemistry or Industrial Chemistry
Boiler 39 Same 3-yr B.Sc as above
Fitter 24 Matric plus 2-yr ITI in Fitter
Technician (Chemical) 24 3-yr Diploma in Chemical, Petrochemical, Chemical Technology, or Refinery & Petrochemical Engg.
Technician (Mechanical) 24 3-yr Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
Technician (Electrical) 23 3-yr Diploma in Electrical, or Electrical & Electronics Engineering
Technician (Instrumentation) 23 3-yr Diploma in Instrumentation, Instrumentation & Electronics, Instrumentation & Control, or Applied Electronics & Instrumentation Engg.
Secretarial Assistant 15 B.A, B.Sc or B.Com
Accountant 1 B.Com
Data Entry Operator (Fresher) 11 Class XII pass
Data Entry Operator (Skill-certificate holder) 11 Class XII pass with Skill Certificate in Domestic Data Entry Operator

IOCL Barauni Apprentice 2026 eligibility: degree, age and the marks floor

Age must sit between 18 and 24 years for UR and EWS candidates as on 30 June 2026. SC and ST candidates get 5 years of relaxation, OBC-NCL candidates get 3 years, and PwBD candidates get 10 years. You also need a minimum of 50% marks in the qualifying exam if you’re in the General category, or 45% if you’re SC, ST or PwBD. The degree itself depends on the trade. The two B.Sc-based operator trades want a three-year B.Sc with Maths, Physics and Chemistry or Industrial Chemistry. The four Technician trades want a matching three-year diploma, and each Technician code accepts a few allied diploma branches, so check the trade table above for the exact list. Fitter wants Matric plus a two-year ITI in Fitter. Secretarial Assistant takes any B.A, B.Sc or B.Com, Accountant needs a B.Com, and both Data Entry Operator categories need a Class XII pass, with the skill-certificate category also requiring a Domestic Data Entry Operator skill certificate.

What IOCL Barauni pays apprentices, and the part the notice leaves blank

The notification says the stipend is paid as prescribed under the Apprentices Act, but it doesn’t print a rupee figure, so we won’t invent one; confirm the exact monthly amount from IOCL before you count on it. One point the advertisement states plainly is that this apprenticeship carries no promise of regular or permanent employment with IOCL once the training ends. Treat it as skilled experience and a certificate earned at a major refinery, not a back door into a permanent PSU post. The training period itself runs roughly 12 to 24 months depending on the trade, so plan for a fixed-term commitment.

Why your qualifying percentage decides the whole Barauni merit list

This is the detail a lot of applicants miss. There’s no written test, no interview score and no fee, so selection runs purely on the percentage you scored in the prescribed qualification. That means your degree, diploma or ITI marksheet is your entire application. There’s no later exam to lift a weak result, so double-check that your percentage is calculated and entered correctly and that you clear the 50% or 45% floor for your category. For Data Entry Operator, note the split between 11 Fresher seats and 11 seats kept for skill-certificate holders, and pick the category that matches your background.

The three steps to apply on NAPS or NATS plus the IOCL form

Applying takes three separate actions, and skipping any one can void your candidature. First, register on the correct portal: trades 101 to 103 and 108 to 111 go through the NAPS portal at apprenticeshipindia.gov.in, while trades 104 to 107 go through the NATS portal at nats.education.gov.in. Second, find and apply to IOCL Barauni Refinery’s opportunity on that same portal. Third, fill the mandatory Microsoft Form linked under the ‘What’s New’ section on www.iocl.com. The online window runs from 29 June 2026 to 28 July 2026. Apply only on these official links; a genuine government or PSU recruiter never asks for an unofficial fee or a payment to shortlist you. If you’re weighing other openings too, our Job Finder narrows options by qualification and state, and you can keep watching for more Bihar jobs as they open.

Does the IOCL Barauni apprenticeship lead to a permanent IOCL job?

No. The advertisement clearly states the apprenticeship carries no obligation of regular employment. You gain training, a stipend and refinery experience, but there’s no guaranteed permanent post afterwards.

Do I register on NAPS or NATS for the Barauni trades?

It depends on your trade code. Trades 101 to 103 and 108 to 111 use the NAPS portal (apprenticeshipindia.gov.in), while trades 104 to 107 use the NATS portal (nats.education.gov.in). Check your trade code before you register.

Is there any exam or application fee for the 432 apprentice posts?

There’s no written test and no application fee at all. Selection runs purely on the percentage you scored in your qualifying course, so your marksheet does all the work.

How much stipend will a Barauni Refinery apprentice receive?

The notice says the stipend follows the rate prescribed under the Apprentices Act but doesn’t print an exact amount, so we can’t quote a figure. Confirm the current monthly rate directly from IOCL.

What’s the last date to apply for IOCL Barauni Apprentice 2026?

The online application window is open from 29 June 2026 to 28 July 2026. Finish all three steps, the portal registration, the IOCL opportunity and the Microsoft Form, before the closing date.

I hold a B.Sc with Physics and Chemistry, which Barauni trade fits me?

A three-year B.Sc with Maths, Physics and Chemistry (or Industrial Chemistry) suits the Attendant Operator (Chemical Plant) trade, which has the most seats at 237, and the Boiler trade with 39 seats. Both need at least 50% marks for General and 45% for SC, ST or PwBD.
