Naukritips.com’s first Uttarakhand post is a big one. UKSSSC Junior Assistant Recruitment 2026 opens 398 Group C posts, Junior Assistant and Stenographer Grade-1/Personal Assistant together, for the civil and family courts under the High Court at Nainital. Applications close 6 July 2026, and the written exam is provisionally set for 23 August.

Cross-checked with the Commission’s own PDF (2 July 2026). UKSSSC’s Advertisement No. 78/UASSCA/2026, dated 15 June 2026, is live on sssc.uk.gov.in. All figures below are read from the 28-page official notification.

UKSSSC Junior Assistant Recruitment 2026: 398 Posts, Three Pay Levels

Post Court Posts Pay Level Pay Scale
Junior Assistant Civil Court 230 Level-3 ₹21,700-69,100
Junior Assistant Family Court 29 Level-3 ₹21,700-69,100
Stenographer Gr-1/PA Civil Court 128 Level-5 ₹29,200-92,300
Stenographer Gr-1/PA Family Court 11 Level-7 ₹44,900-1,42,400

Look closely at the last row. The Family Court Stenographer/PA post pays two full levels higher than its Civil Court counterpart, Level-7 against Level-5. And that’s despite the qualification, age limit and typing/shorthand requirements being word-for-word identical between them. It’s only 11 posts, but if you qualify as a stenographer, that’s the one worth watching for in the merit list. In hand, the Level-3 Junior Assistant basic of Rs 21,700 works out to roughly Rs 30,000 to Rs 34,000 a month once DA and HRA are added and NPS comes out; a Level-5 Stenographer lands nearer Rs 40,000 to Rs 45,000. Those are our estimates, not Commission figures, since DA and city-based HRA shift the number.

Pick Your District Once, For Good

All 13 districts of Uttarakhand get a share of these 398 posts, but not an equal one. Dehradun (95) and Haridwar (82) alone account for nearly 44% of the total, while Rudraprayag gets just 10. The advertisement requires every applicant to choose one district preference at the time of filling the form, and posting later follows merit and vacancy within that chosen district. That choice is locked: the notification calls it non-changeable, and unlike most other fields, it cannot be revised even during the correction window that follows the closing date. Decide before you submit, not after.

What Junior Assistants and Stenographers Must Prove

Both roles need a graduate degree from a recognised university, plus working knowledge of Hindi and English. Beyond that, the paths split:

  • Junior Assistant: minimum 25 words per minute Hindi typing on computer. English typing at 30 wpm is a preference, not a requirement.
  • Stenographer Grade-1/PA: minimum 80 words per minute Hindi shorthand AND 25 words per minute Hindi computer typing, both required together. English shorthand at 80 wpm and English typing at 35 wpm count as an advantage, not a mandatory bar.

No separate stenography diploma or certificate is asked for, just these speed thresholds, tested later as a skill test.

Age, Domicile and Who Actually Gets the Reservation

The base window is 21 to 35 years as on 1 January 2026, so you need to be born between 2 January 1991 and 1 January 2005. Relaxations apply only to candidates who are domiciled residents of Uttarakhand. SC, ST and OBC candidates from the state get +5 years (capped at 40), Divyang candidates get +10 years (capped at 45), and freedom-fighter dependents get +5 years. Ex-servicemen get their actual age reduced by their length of military service, though the result cannot exceed the 35-year limit by more than 3 years.

Here’s the part worth stating clearly, since it’s easy to misread. The notification does not list the Unreserved category among those that need Uttarakhand domicile; the domicile condition is written only against the reservation and age-relaxation categories (SC, ST, OBC, EWS, women’s quota, ex-servicemen and the rest). Read that way, any Indian citizen appears eligible to apply as Unreserved, while a candidate from outside the state applies without those specific benefits. Since the advertisement states this by structure rather than in one plain sentence, confirm it with the Commission’s helpline if it affects you.

140 Marks Decide the Merit List, Not 200

The written paper is 140 marks of General Knowledge and General Studies, objective-type MCQs, over 2 hours 30 minutes, with the exam mode (offline or online) still to be announced. Negative marking runs at 0.25 per wrong answer, and marking two options on the same question counts as fully wrong, even if one of them was correct. Qualifying cutoffs are 45% for General and OBC candidates and 35% for SC and ST candidates.

Separately, there’s a 60-mark typing or shorthand skill test, matched to your post. This is where a lot of listings will get it wrong: the skill test is explicitly qualifying in nature. You have to clear it, but it doesn’t add to your score. Final merit is decided purely by the 140-mark written paper, not by 200 combined marks. No interview stage appears anywhere in the document.

Five Steps to a Submitted Form

  1. Register on sssc.uk.gov.in with personal details. One mobile number and one email work for only one registration.
  2. Fill in educational and other details, and declare your district and category preferences.
  3. Upload your photo, signature and left thumb impression in the specified sizes, along with your High School certificate (the only accepted proof of date of birth) and both sides of your Aadhaar card.
  4. Pay the fee online: Rs 300 for Unreserved and Uttarakhand OBC, Rs 150 for Uttarakhand SC, ST, EWS and Divyang candidates, and free for orphan candidates.
  5. Print your submitted application. A one-time correction window runs 8 to 10 July, but name, parents’ names, date of birth and exam centre cannot be changed even then, so get those right the first time.

This is our first post from Uttarakhand; the Uttarakhand jobs page will carry what the state opens next, alongside every other state commission we track.
