Six regular posts of Scientific Assistant in the Bihar Drug Control Laboratory are open to B.Sc. (Chemistry) and B.Pharm graduates under BTSC Scientific Assistant Recruitment 2026. Both kinds of graduate also need one year of experience in testing and analysing drugs. Advertisement No. 30/2026 from the Bihar Technical Service Commission (BTSC) fills these posts for the state Health Department. You can apply online until 11:55 PM on 24 October 2026; the window opened at 10 AM on 25 September, going by the BTSC page for this advertisement. Pay Level 5 is a level in Bihar’s revised pay matrix; the notice gives no rupee figure. Selection rests on a computer-based test (CBT) worth 75 marks, with a bonus of up to 25 for past contract work in a non-private laboratory in Bihar.

Source documents: Advt 30/2026, a scanned Hindi notice of 7 pages plus an Annexure-I experience-certificate format, signed on 25 September 2026. BTSC notice No. 3200 of the same day puts the total at 6 posts. Each PDF is hosted on btsc.bihar.gov.in. On 5 October 2026 the BTSC website showed no corrigendum or date extension for Advt 30/2026, and its Advt 30/2026 page carried only the advertisement PDF as a document. The BTSC syllabus page listed no Scientific Assistant syllabus on that day.

Why fresh B.Sc. and B.Pharm graduates cannot apply for BTSC Scientific Assistant Recruitment 2026

The qualification has two parts, and you need both:

  1. A B.Sc. in Chemistry or a B.Pharm from a recognised university.
  2. One year of work experience in the testing and analysis of drugs (medicines).

So a graduate without that year of drug testing and analysis experience is not eligible. The upload list asks every candidate for this experience certificate. For those who pass the CBT, these certificates will be checked as advised by the department.

The notice does not say where the year of experience must come from. It also does not say whether a private laboratory counts for this basic requirement. The bonus marks further down are different: they count only non-private laboratories in Bihar.

Three open posts, and one each for SC, EBC and BC

Category Posts
Unreserved (UR) 3
Scheduled Caste (SC) 1
Extremely Backward Class (EBC) 1
Backward Class (BC) 1
Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Women of Backward Classes 0
Total 6

According to the caption, these six seats already count the 35% share for women with permanent Bihar residence. That share is horizontal, so it cuts across the categories rather than adding seats. Below the main row sits an unlabelled line that shows 1 against unreserved and a total of 1. BTSC does not explain it, so we have not read a meaning into it.

No post is set aside for persons with disabilities or for grandchildren of freedom fighters in this advertisement. The Health Department can still revise its demand before the last date, which would change the count.

Upper age limits climb to 42 for SC and ST applicants

Your age on 1 August 2026 is what counts, and BTSC uses the birth date on your Class 10 (matriculation) or equivalent certificate. Everyone must be at least 21.

Group Upper age
Unreserved men 37
Unreserved women, and BC or EBC men and women 40
SC and ST men and women 42

You may also claim one of these, but only one:

  • 10 more years for persons with disabilities;
  • 5 more years if you have served the Bihar government on a regular post for 3 years without a break and this post carries a higher scale;
  • years equal to your contract service as a Scientific Assistant, or on an equivalent post, in a non-private laboratory in Bihar. It is counted up to 1 August 2026, part years included, and applies only to the same post;
  • for ex-servicemen, 3 years plus the length of defence service, provided you are 57 or younger on the day you apply and upload the certificate.

Bonus marks for each year of non-private lab service in Bihar

Merit is worked out on 100 marks. Up to 75 come from the CBT: BTSC multiplies your CBT percentage by 0.75, so a 50% score becomes 37.5 marks.

The other 25 marks reward satisfactory contract service on an equivalent post in a non-private laboratory in Bihar. The notice lists central and Bihar government labs, municipal bodies, panchayati raj bodies, other public bodies and military laboratories. Each full year earns 5 marks, up to 25. A part year earns a share: working days times 5, divided by 365. Lab service up to 25 September 2026 is counted.

Three conditions apply. The bonus counts only after you pass the CBT. Leave the experience claim out of the form and you forfeit the bonus marks as well as the extra age allowance. And the certificate must follow Annexure-I of the notice, issued by the controlling officer of the institution; in any other format it earns no marks.

A 400-mark CBT with plus 4 and minus 1

  • The paper has 100 objective questions worth 400 marks, set in Hindi and English, with 2 hours to finish.
  • A correct answer adds 4 marks; a wrong one takes away 1.
  • Because the CBT will be held in several shifts, BTSC will normalise scores, that is, scale them so a tough shift and an easy shift are judged fairly.
  • BTSC will put out the syllabus, prepared by the Health Department, as a separate document. On 5 October 2026 it was not yet on the BTSC syllabus page.

The minimum CBT marks are higher here than the flat 30% of BTSC Advt 28/2026 for Fishery Extension Officer:

Candidate Minimum CBT marks
General 40%
Backward Class (BC) 36.5%
Extremely Backward Class (EBC) 34%
SC, ST, women and persons with disabilities 32%
Anyone living outside Bihar, including women and disabled candidates 40%

Candidates are then called, in category merit order, for document verification (DV), where officials match your original certificates against your uploads. Advt 30/2026 has no interview round.

Who gets a reserved Scientific Assistant seat, and which Bihar certificate proves it

Applicants from any state may apply, but only permanent Bihar residents get a reserved seat. For this test of residence, BTSC looks only at the permanent address field in your application.

  • SC and ST: caste certificate and domicile certificate.
  • BC and EBC: a non-creamy layer certificate issued for Bihar government use, plus domicile proof. It shows you are outside the creamy layer. A caste certificate alone is not accepted.
  • EWS: an income and asset certificate, which lapses one year after issue, plus domicile proof.
  • Women under SC, ST, BC or EBC: the caste or non-creamy layer certificate must be in the father’s name and show his address.

Transgender applicants are treated as BC for reservation. Your category cannot be changed after registration.

Four steps to submit the Scientific Assistant form online

The fee is a flat Rs 100 for every category, paid online through card, net banking or UPI; bank charges come on top.

  1. Register on the BTSC website and fill the form for Advt 30/2026 with your own mobile number and e-mail ID.
  2. Upload your Class 10 certificate, your B.Sc. or B.Pharm marksheet and degree, and the drug testing experience certificate. A provisional degree certificate is accepted. Add any category, domicile or Annexure-I certificate you claim, and check that each one is dated 24 October 2026 or earlier.
  3. The photo must be under 3 months old and show your full face and head against white, eyes open and without glasses. Keep at least five spare prints.
  4. Pay the fee and save the receipt. A registration number and a fee receipt do not, on their own, mean the form is complete.

Once submitted, the form is frozen: BTSC takes no edit or correction request, and such requests can lead to the application being cancelled. Only uploaded documents are checked at DV, and if a scan is blurred or unreadable, BTSC may cancel your candidature, even at DV. Skipping DV is not an option, and you need the original of every upload there. A fake certificate leads to cancellation and legal action, and a faulty certificate found at any stage can also end your candidature.

Where chemistry and pharmacy graduates can look next in Bihar

Chemistry graduates have a second option: BTSC Advt 29/2026, open from 25 September to 24 October 2026, has 105 Food Safety Officer posts, also in the Health Department. Eligibility and dates for that post are on our BTSC Food Safety Officer Recruitment 2026 page. For wider searches, use our lists of Bihar government jobs, health department vacancies and graduate-level jobs.

Get the drug testing experience certificate signed first

  1. A clear certificate for your one year of drug testing and analysis work.
  2. If you worked on contract in a non-private laboratory in Bihar, an Annexure-I certificate from the controlling officer, for the bonus marks and the age relaxation.
  3. If you claim a reservation, Bihar domicile and category certificates dated 24 October 2026 or earlier. Get these before you open the form on the BTSC page for Advt 30/2026.
