The Bihar State University Service Commission (BSUSC) has opened a large teaching recruitment, and BSUSC Assistant Professor Recruitment 2026 is now live for postgraduates who want a college faculty role. Under Notification BSUSC/CAP-01 to 06/2026, there are 3,687 contractual Assistant Professor posts across six subjects in Bihar’s state universities and new government degree colleges. It suits candidates with a Master’s degree and UGC-NET, SLET, SET or a Ph.D. There is no application fee, and the entire process is quick: applications opened on 3 July 2026 and the last date is 15 July 2026.

The subject-wise split is English 674, History 662, Hindi 625, Economics 597, Political Science 596 and Sociology 533. Posts are spread across ten universities and the 211 newly formed government degree colleges, with reservation applied by category, subject and university.
Read this first: these are contractual posts
This is the single most important thing to understand before you apply, and many listings skip it. These are purely contractual posts, not permanent ones. The engagement is for one academic session at a time, and each year’s renewal depends on performance and screening; it is not automatic. The posts stay valid only until regular Assistant Professors are appointed, and you have to sign a notarised affidavit giving up any claim to regularisation. If you are looking for a permanent faculty role, weigh this carefully before applying.
Who can apply: qualification in detail
You need a Master’s degree with at least 55 percent marks, or an equivalent grade, in the concerned or an allied subject. There is a 5 percent relaxation for SC, ST, BC and EBC (non-creamy layer) candidates of Bihar, and a separate 5 percent for persons with disabilities, though the two cannot be combined. On top of the Master’s, you must have cleared UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, SLET or SET, or hold a Ph.D. awarded under the UGC regulations, which exempts you from NET. Age limit for the 2026 drive
The age band runs from 21 to 43 years, counted as on 1 August 2026. Age relaxation for reserved categories applies as per the Government of Bihar norms. Because the timeline is short, check your eligibility against these dates before you start the form.
The salary question, answered honestly
This is where you should be careful about numbers you see elsewhere. The notification states that the monthly remuneration will be equal to the minimum monthly gross salary, counting basic pay and dearness allowance only, of a regularly appointed Assistant Professor at entry level. It does not print a rupee figure and does not name a pay level. Some listings quote a figure of around Rs 57,700, which is the standard entry basic for a regular Assistant Professor at Academic Level 10, but that exact number is not stated in this notice, so treat it as an estimate. Your actual gross, once dearness allowance is added, would be higher than the bare basic.
Important dates and the tight schedule
This drive moves fast, so the calendar matters. The online application portal opened on 3 July 2026, and the last date to apply is 15 July 2026. The commission plans to send screening and interview intimation on 17 and 18 July, hold interviews between 20 and 27 July, publish the merit list around 29 July, and complete allotment by 1 August, with joining by 7 August 2026. There is no separate correction or edit window listed in the official schedule, so fill the form carefully the first time.
How selection works: no written exam
There is no written test in this recruitment. Selection is out of 100 marks, split as 88 marks for academic qualifications and 12 marks for an interview and teaching demonstration. The academic 88 marks come from your research record, postgraduate, graduation, intermediate and matriculation marks. The 12 interview marks are split as 6 for an on-the-spot teaching demonstration, which is video recorded, and 6 for the interaction with the board. Screening shortlists candidates for interview at a ratio of up to three per vacancy.
How to apply on the SAMARTH portal
Applications are accepted online only, through the SAMARTH recruitment portal, not by email or post. Note that the BSUSC homepage shows a general apply button for its own older portal, but the notification itself directs you to SAMARTH, so use that. Work through it in this order:
- Register on the SAMARTH portal at hedbiharrec.samarth.edu.in.
- Fill your Class 10, 12, graduation and postgraduation percentages, converting any CGPA using your board’s official formula.
- Answer the questionnaire on your NET, SLET or Ph.D. status.
- Select your university preferences in your order of choice, as prompted by the form.
- Upload your photo, signature, mark sheets, degrees and any caste, domicile or NET-exemption certificates, then submit before 15 July 2026. Keep the notarised affidavit ready too, since selected candidates submit it at the joining stage.
