BTSC Fishery Extension Officer Recruitment 2026: 231 Posts for B.F.Sc. Graduates
On this page
A four-year B.F.Sc. is the only degree accepted for the 231 posts in BTSC Fishery Extension Officer Recruitment 2026. These are regular jobs in Bihar’s Directorate of Fisheries and its field offices. The Bihar Technical Service Commission (BTSC) lists them in Advertisement No. 28/2026, for the Dairy, Fisheries and Animal Resources Department. Forms are accepted from 24 September to 23 October 2026, up to 11:55 PM on the last day as per the BTSC web page. Your fisheries college must come under an agricultural university recognised by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). The post sits at Pay Level 7, a grade in the state’s salary matrix, though the notice prints no rupee figure. A computer-based test (CBT) gives 75 of the 100 merit marks. Past contract service on this post can add up to 25 more.
96 open seats and 135 reserved in the Advt 28/2026 table
| Category | Posts |
|---|---|
| Unreserved (UR) | 96 |
| Economically Weaker Section (EWS) | 23 |
| Scheduled Caste (SC) | 35 |
| Scheduled Tribe (ST) | 2 |
| Extremely Backward Class (EBC) | 41 |
| Backward Class (BC) | 27 |
| Women of Backward Classes (WBC) | 7 |
| Total | 231 |
The caption on the table says these figures already contain the 35% quota for women who live permanently in Bihar. That quota is horizontal. A woman picked under it still fills a seat of her own category.
A second line of numbers runs under the main row with no caption: UR 34, EWS 8, SC 12, ST 0, EBC 14 and BC 9, for 77 in all. Apart from ST (0 of 2), each number is roughly 35% of the one above it. So it is most likely the women’s share, but that is our reading. BTSC has not labelled it.
Of the 231, nine are for persons with disabilities. VH (low vision or blindness) gets 3. HH (hearing), OH (locomotor) and MH each get 2. MH covers autism, intellectual disability, specific learning disability, mental illness and multiple disabilities. Grandchildren of Bihar freedom fighters on a central pension have 4 posts. Both of these quotas are for Bihar natives only. The total itself can still move, because the department may send a revised demand before the last date.
BTSC Fishery Extension Officer Recruitment 2026 accepts only a four-year B.F.Sc.
The qualification line in Advt 28/2026 is short and strict. You need a four-year bachelor’s degree in Fisheries Science from a College of Fisheries. That college must be part of an agricultural university recognised by ICAR, New Delhi.
The notice names no other degree. A B.Sc. in Zoology, a three-year fisheries course or a postgraduate degree without the four-year B.F.Sc. is not listed. Whatever college you studied at, check that it is a College of Fisheries under an ICAR-recognised agricultural university before you pay.
Every certificate you rely on must carry an issue date of 23 October 2026 or earlier. For the degree, a provisional certificate is accepted along with the marksheets of all four years.
A 21-year floor, and ceilings that rise for women, BC, EBC, SC and ST
The youngest eligible age is 21, counted on 1 August 2026. Your date of birth is taken from the Class 10 (matriculation) or equivalent certificate.
| Group | Oldest you can be (1 Aug 2026) |
|---|---|
| Unreserved men | 37 |
| Unreserved women | 40 |
| BC and EBC, men and women | 40 |
| SC and ST, men and women | 42 |
The 2020 rule for B.F.Sc. holders who crossed the limit
Para 2(v) ties this round to the previous fishery recruitment, which used 1 August 2020 as its age date. If you were under your category’s ceiling on any day from 1 August 2020 to 1 August 2026, you may still apply. That includes graduates who went past the limit during those six years. All other conditions still apply to you.
Disability, service and ex-servicemen relaxations (pick one)
- Disability: add 10 years.
- Bihar government staff in regular service for 3 unbroken years, seeking a higher scale: add 5 years.
- Contract work on this same post: add the length of that contract, part years included, counted up to 1 August 2026. The work must be in a Bihar government office or another non-private body in Bihar, such as a central office, panchayat or urban body.
- Ex-servicemen: add 3 years plus your defence service, but your real age must not pass 57 on the date you apply. A certificate is compulsory for this claim.
Para 2(viii) allows only one relaxation, and its list includes the 2020 rule. So claim only the one that helps you most.
Contract service as an FEO can lift a pass score by 25 marks
| Merit part | Marks |
|---|---|
| CBT | 75 |
| Satisfactory contract service on this post in Bihar | Up to 25 |
| Total | 100 |
No interview appears anywhere in the notice. Your test percentage is scaled down to 75. Score 60% in the CBT and you carry 45 marks, the example BTSC itself prints.
Contract years count only after you clear the CBT. The notice caps them at 25 marks, given year by year, with a fair share for part of a year. It does not say how many marks one full year earns. Service is counted up to 24 September 2026, and the period is judged from the salary payment record.
Proof means a salary payment certificate copied exactly from Annexure-I. Three officers can sign it: the Director of Fisheries, a Deputy Director of Fisheries (range), or a District Fisheries Officer-cum-Chief Executive Officer. Any other layout is ignored. If you skip the experience column in the form, you lose both the marks and the age relaxation.
100 questions, a quarter-mark penalty and a 30% pass line
- 100 multiple-choice questions, 2 hours, 100 marks, printed in Hindi and English.
- A right answer earns 1 mark. A wrong one costs 0.25.
- The test will run in more than one shift. BTSC will then normalise the scores, which means adjusting them so that easier and harder shifts can be compared, and the score card will show that figure.
- The qualifying mark printed in the notice is 30%. Anyone below the minimum for their category has no claim.
The department sets the syllabus, and BTSC posted it on its Syllabus page on 1 October 2026 as a one-page Fishery Extension Officer syllabus. The same PDF also covers the Junior Fisheries Research Officer post. It has five units:
- Fishery resources and management, and fish biology, including Bihar’s culture and capture fishery and its fish and seed supply.
- Fish aquaculture: breeding, induced spawning, seed production, pond management, pen and cage culture, hatcheries, fish disease and ornamental fish.
- Ecology of water bodies: limnology, productivity, biodiversity and aquatic pollution.
- Harvest and post-harvest technology: crafts, gears, nets, preservation, canning and packaging.
- Fisheries economics, extension and statistics: cooperatives, marketing, extension methods, PRA and RRA, the role of women in fisheries, and basic statistics and computer science.
That list follows the B.F.Sc. course closely, so your degree notes are the main study material. Those who clear the CBT go into a merit list for each category. Next comes document verification (DV), where BTSC matches your uploads with the originals.
Bihar domicile and the papers each category must upload
Any Indian citizen with the degree can apply. Reservation, though, is only for permanent residents of Bihar, and a candidate from another state gets no reservation benefit. The address you enter as permanent in the form decides whether you count as a Bihar resident.
- SC and ST: caste certificate plus domicile proof.
- BC and EBC: a Bihar-format non-creamy layer certificate plus domicile proof. A plain caste certificate will be rejected.
- EWS: income and asset certificate, which stays valid for one year from issue, plus domicile proof.
- SC, ST, BC and EBC women: the caste or non-creamy layer certificate must show the father’s name and address.
- Freedom fighter’s grandchild: the prescribed certificate from the District Magistrate of your home district, or an officer the DM authorises. A freedom fighter heir’s ID card does not count.
- Disability: a medical board certificate in the prescribed format. A temporary certificate must be renewed to stay valid, and BTSC will re-check the disability through its own board. A scribe may be allowed for benchmark disability of 40% or more, and you must tick Yes in the form to ask for one.
Transgender candidates receive the reservation given to Backward Classes. Your category is locked once you register, so arrange the certificate first.
Registering on btsc.bihar.gov.in when no edits are allowed
Everyone pays Rs 100, online only, through a bank card, net banking or UPI, plus any bank charge. Unclear, incomplete or late forms are rejected, and the fee is not returned.
- Start from the Advt 28/2026 page on the BTSC site. Registration opened at 10 AM on 24 September 2026.
- Give your Aadhaar number, or a PAN or driving licence number if you lack Aadhaar, and bring that same card on exam day.
- Upload the Class 10 certificate, the B.F.Sc. marksheets and degree, and each category, domicile or salary certificate you claim, with its number and issue date.
- Add a photo no older than three months: face and full head visible, eyes open, white background, no shadow and no spectacles. A photo that breaks these rules can lead to cancellation, so keep five spare prints.
- Pay, then save the receipt and the final form. Registering and paying alone do not finish the application.
Two rules matter most after you submit. BTSC accepts no later change to the form, and it rejects correction requests. Also, DV checks only what you uploaded, so a blurred or dark scan can end your candidature even then. Bring the originals and the uploaded copies (downloaded from the BTSC site) to DV. Attending DV is compulsory, and a fake certificate found at any stage means cancellation and legal action.
Exam date, rupee pay and three other blanks in Advt 28/2026
- Exam date: none given yet.
- Salary in rupees: only Pay Level 7 is stated, so we have not estimated take-home pay.
- The 77 line: printed without a caption, as explained above.
- Marks per contract year: only the 25-mark cap is given.
- Category-wise pass marks: the notice prints 30% and refers to a category minimum, but gives no separate figures.
