Each subject has its own category-wise split (UR/SC/ST/OBC/EWS), plus 35% horizontal reservation for MP-native women and 25% for guest scholars (atithi vidwan) of MP government colleges. One legal point the official advertisements state clearly: because OBC reservation litigation is pending in court, results will be declared in two parts, a main part of 87% and a provisional part of 13%.
Who Can Apply
You need both of these:
- A Master’s degree with at least 55% marks in the relevant subject (or an allied subject notified by the MP Higher Education Department). SC/ST/OBC non-creamy-layer and PwD candidates get a 5% relaxation, so 50% works for them.
- UGC-NET or CSIR-NET in that subject, or MP-SET. Careful here: the advertisement accepts only the SET conducted by the Madhya Pradesh government. SET or SLET passed in another state does not count.
PhD holders whose degree was awarded under the UGC PhD Regulations of 2009 (or later) are exempt from NET/SET. Registered for your PhD before 11 July 2009? Then the exemption applies only if your university certifies five specific conditions (regular mode, external evaluation, open viva, published papers). Check the advertisement’s exemption clause word by word before relying on it.
Age: 21 to 40 years as on 1 January 2026. MP-domicile SC/ST/OBC candidates, PwD candidates, women and government employees get 5 extra years. Guest scholars of MP government colleges can get up to 10 extra years. But no matter which relaxations you combine, the absolute ceiling is 45 years.
A hard truth for candidates from other states: every reservation benefit in this recruitment (category, fee concession, age relaxation, women’s quota) applies only to Madhya Pradesh domiciles. If you are from another state, you compete as unreserved, pay ₹500, and your exam centre will be Indore regardless of preference.
Exam Pattern: Two Papers on 30 August, With Negative Marking
The written exam on 30 August 2026 has two OMR-based papers on the same day:
| Paper | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paper 1: General Studies | 50 | 200 | 10:00 to 11:00 AM |
| Paper 2: Your subject | 150 | 600 | 1:00 to 4:00 PM |
Every question carries 4 marks, and each wrong answer costs you 1 mark (a quarter of the question’s value). You must score at least 40% in each paper separately to qualify; for MP-notified SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD candidates the bar is 30%. Two OMR rules trip people up every year: fill your question-booklet set code (A/B/C/D) or your sheet is not evaluated at all, and use only a black ball-point pen.
Final selection is written exam (800 marks) plus interview (100 marks), so the written paper decides almost 90% of your merit. Candidates up to 3 times the number of vacancies are shortlisted for document verification and interview.
Salary at Academic Level 10
The advertisement states the entry pay plainly: ₹57,700 per month at Academic Level 10 of the UGC pay structure, as a permanent, gazetted Class II post. The official documents do not publish any allowance breakup or in-hand figure. Adding the usual dearness allowance and house rent allowance on that basic and deducting NPS, the realistic monthly take-home lands somewhere in the ₹80,000 to ₹90,000 range depending on your posting city and current DA rates. Treat that as our estimate, not an official number; the only officially printed figure is the ₹57,700 entry pay.
How to Apply (and One Unanswered Question)
- Go to mppsc.mp.gov.in and open the Apply Online section, or go directly to the MPPSC section of mponline.gov.in.
- Keep a scanned passport-size colour photo (light background, no cap or dark glasses, no selfie) and your signature ready. No other documents are uploaded at this stage; certificates are checked before the interview.
- Fill the form carefully. The popup asking you to verify your name, parents’ names, date of birth, category and gender is your last easy checkpoint, because these printed details decide your result later.
- Pay the fee (card, net banking, or cash at an MP Online kiosk) and keep the printout showing “Payment Done”. An application number with an unpaid status is not a submitted application.
If you spot a mistake later, the correction window runs from 1 to 12 July 2026 at ₹50 per session.
The unanswered question: the corrigendum does not say whether candidates who already applied in the original window (April to May 2026) need to apply again or are carried forward. It only announces fresh application dates. If you applied earlier, log in to the MPOnline portal and check your application status, or call the MPPSC helpline (0755-6720220, 0755-6720221) before assuming anything. We couldn’t find an official clarification either way, and we’d rather tell you that than guess.
Documents to Line Up Now
Nothing is uploaded with the form. Shortlisted candidates, though, need a long list at document verification. Start early on the items below, because some take weeks to obtain:
- MP domicile certificate (with round seal, dispatch number and date) issued on or before the application last date, if you are claiming any reservation.
- Caste certificate in MP government format for SC/ST/OBC (other states’ certificates are not valid), plus the OBC non-creamy-layer declaration.
- EWS certificate for FY 2025-26, all your marksheets and degrees, NET/SET/PhD certificates, and a live MP Employment Office registration (MP natives).
- PwD candidates: if your disability certificate was issued on or after 1 June 2021, it must be UDID-generated; a manually issued one is invalid.
Is This Post Worth Your Attempt?
If you hold a PG with 55% plus NET, CSIR-NET or MP-SET (or a qualifying PhD) in one of these five subjects, apply. This is one of the larger Assistant Professor recruitments MP has run in recent years, and the post is permanent and gazetted at Academic Level 10 pay. The window shuts on 10 July. The fee is modest, and the exam is nearly two months away, which gives you real runway to prepare for the subject paper that carries 75% of your written marks. For candidates from outside MP, apply knowing you compete unreserved with Indore as your centre; the post itself is worth it.
